Hmm... my county's Department of Aging has announced a "drive-thru picnic" for people over age 60, later this month. It's at the fairgrounds, but all you do is drive up, take a packed meal (ordered in advance) and go home to eat. Is this a strange idea? Do other places do it?

During Covid times when restrictions were in place and restaurants closed to eat-in patrons, our area frequently offered drive-thru picnics. I don't recall seeing them anymore. Maybe they're coming back w/Covid numbers rising 🤔 🤷‍♀️

    I think they're a good idea anytime  😊

I don’t either, however, if HAL is looking to attract more families, which BTW they are, it would behove them to keep the little ones occupied while the parents and grandparents can spend some money onboard

Club HAL area was completely redsigned last fall on NS when it was in dry dock.

  3. These Pinnacle Grill menus were very recently posted by someone currently on the Westerdam.

We leave later this month on the Eurodam and are hoping to learn if these have been rolled out fleetwide or if they're being tested. So, would be appreciative if someone currently on or very recently off other ships (especially the Eurodam) can confirm they have/had these menus or the "usual" PG menus.

  4. We had a somewhat similar experience on our AK land cruise when the excursion was canceled  (not by us). We kept checking for the refund and eventually learned the tour operator had refunded it back to HAL who was to then refund us. After a few follow up calls and a copy of the cancelation notice, I presume HAL was able to confirm they received the refund and we received ours about a week later. The entire process took over a month.

Never cruised before so finding this board very useful before our first ever trip to Alaska on the Koningsdam.  Can't find an answer to this question though.

When ordering room service if I want to tip the cabin steward, do I need to always have cash on hand or is there a chit I can sign to charge to the cabin, like in a hotel?

Welcome to HAL! There is not a paper to sign for room service. You will see those at other places, such as bars for example, but not room service. Best to have cash available if you want to tip. And be prepared - they're in/out quickly.

Safe travels - enjoy your cruise!

  6. Our experience is yes, the balconies do get larger as you move down. We were in a deck 4 aft wrap and never had issues with the window washing equipment; we just made sure it was not in our pictures. We didn't see it move for the 14 days we were in that cabin.
