  1. were does your tour pick up and drop off. what time does it end?
  2. probably a good choice. I love a train ride and during summer this line should be fine. It is prone to landslide during winter rrains another choice is Quick Coach bus which will take you right to Pier 91 or 66 https://quickcoach.com/schedule/
  3. a hazard of reading this forum. I have a bag set aside collecting little suggestions and a few major items for my Northern Lights. My calendar pages are filling with notes ideas and possible to dos
  4. Thanks for a fun thread. My calendar is filled with notes for September. need to figure out a baseball day game and it sounds like a full roster.
  5. Oy that menu at Berghoff! And conveniently 1 block from the popcorn store. I think we are going to roll away from Chicago 10 pounds heavier
  6. I think when folks say chip and PIN they are really meaning chip and tap cards or Contactless cards Most everyone has one these days Debit cards are largely Chip and PIN most credit cards at contactless , chip and tap cards both work widely in Europe. Debit cards in ATMs and credit cards everywhere else. This is the symbol
  7. In certain parts of the world, a trip to a market and discussion of unique or local ingredients followed by a cooking class or a trip someplace for a tasting menu would be very welcome. I see it as gaining appreciation and contact with local folks, improving my cooking vocabulary and seeing how ingredients are used. I spent several weeks in Papua New Guinea and we started our first day with a trip to the central market and found some interesting fruit and veg which we took home for the cook. We were as much a curiosity to the citizens as we had in their offerings. It was quite a memorable experience. Ditto the fish market in Funchal Madeira, fish and shellfish I have never seen. Amazing photo ops of colorful displays and nice people. I am lucky to have access to markets in my home area with ingredients from all over the world. Sometimes a local taste of something during travel inspires me to check out cooking techniques and flavors. I will freely admit some of the best memories are of eating tasty things.
  8. you can use google maps to locate the restaurants and link to their menus. The ones I mentioned and the Met and Shuckers best to make reservations
  9. check out Flybus on Reykjavik Excursions www dot re.is They list Harbor Skarfabakki as one of their pick up spots. Generally a shuttle or bus ( and I suspect bus, the purple line, from the port) to the central station then they take you to BL. You check your luggage in the hold room, enjoy BL for a couple hours then they take you to the airport. You can contact them for the details of this excursion and the logistics for you. It is a common and popular trip. I am surprised they do not have a shuttle servicing the cruise port yet. Perhaps the too high volume is hard to support. I did this trip, in from the airport a few days in town and home via BL. It was perfect to and from my downtown hotel using a shuttle from the central bus station. Everything is timed to perfection Contact Reykjavik Excursions, they will get you to where you want to be
  10. SEA tends to have very high port taxes which show up in the fares. Add to its large size and the logistics of a long bus trip north I would fly in to Vancouver. If the idea of the tram into the city center overwhelms you, you can get a private car Uber/Lyft or taxi. Remember your choice will also be part of your journey home. Traffic on I5 south to Seattle, depending on the day of the week, can be highly challenging. Overall Vancouver will give you the more pleasant total experience
  11. Metropolitan and Shuckers are both excellent choices as well!
  12. Taylor Shellfish at Seattle Center. Taylor is a Puget Sound shellfish farm producer. Highly likely to be the provider for many of the other venues. Shaker and Spear it the Klimpton Hotel Emmet Watsons at The Market (Pike Place) Elliotts Oyster House at Pier 55/56 south of the Aquarium
  13. if the medication is an Estrogen or other hormone blocker, post surgical excision, discuss with doctor if the patient is considered to truly "have cancer". There are other cancers where daily oral meds are therapeutic and that is a different situation. Cancer is becoming a disease of management and long term control, like blood pressure etc. A sad situation and sorry for your dilemma
  14. if you are given Fluroquinolone class antibiotics ( end with floxacin) be very careful. A small number of people with potentially have tendon pathology, including tears and ruptures after / while using them. I wish I had treated my "tourista" in Papua New Guinea a bit more conservatively . 1/2 year off my sport due to partially torn tendons in my arm
  15. I think it is notable that the crew had a lower incidence of illness, despite their closer quarters and contact with each other and with passenger personal areas , like bathrooms and beds. I suspect the work staff are well versed in personal sanitation and safety and know it is a vital part of their job.
  16. I use Google Flights particularly in the US to see if flying to a secondary airport and driving to destination is more cost effective than flights to my target city. I am considering a trip to Philadelphia area. I hate that airport and its surrounds. I have to balance the price and convenience ( or not) of Newark or Baltimore when scouting fares always make sure you use the dates of your prospective travel. Short date booking ( flying today tomorrow or next week) will often command a very high price
  17. Being a retired scientist inclined to think an n=3 is required. Need to be sure to get a range of test samples
  18. if you dig up a Chinatown food tour reference please share it! @rosewood jo
  19. I image there is a sub set of wonderful German and Polish restaurants and really good wurst to be had. Excited about the river tour and that it is so well thought of. Baseball , pizza , sausages, Rick Bayliss, art, theatre, natural history. Might need to add an extra day or two.
  20. I would ask your doctor for a referral to a colleague there. Most top physicians and specialty practitioners and university medical centers would have international connections they can consult and refer to.
  21. Antinal is an old Nitrofurasone antibiotic which will go nothing for a viral bowel disorder. Widely used in some livestock
  22. I have not done a pre post but am planning a trip to Chicago in the Fall If that is the Radisson Blu Aqua it is a great location and highly rated It is one block north from Millennium park and about 5 blocks from the Art Institute of Chicago. Well located higher floors may have lake view My reason for going to Chicago is primarily to visit the AIC museum and the masterpieces there. The Natural History museum is also noteworthy. Chicago Theatre is about 5 block west and it is worth seeing what or who is playing. As far as food I will probably see for myself if Chicago Pizza is all that they say it is. I would make a point at trying to get to one of Rick Bayless mexican restaurant. See his web site rickbayless dot com I also usually search for Chinese hot pot or ethnic chinese cuisine such as Hunan or Sichuan . I am pretty adventurous eater and willing to take risk. In season I imaging a baseball fan would want to see a game at Wrigley Field. Shoot I am not even a big baseball fan but I would go just to experience the field of play ; this American icon
  23. 530 pounds to the US or canada is a good deal. Some airlines are less expensive than others, Consider Norwegian or Iceland Air. My airfare from Seattle to London are rarely below 1176 pound for Comfort Plus. A lot of the fare is taxes and port fees. Flying from/to a secondary airport might be a savings.
