Cool Cruiser

Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. Well, I'm 7 days out and finally got the room assignment. Upgraded from steerage to a Veranda suite on Deck 9. I can relax a bit now.
  2. I have two excursions booked for an Iceland circumnavigation cruise. In the morning I am doing a more active hiking trip. After lunch I am doing one of thermal pools. The timing of the excursions works and I don't think I run the risk of wearing myself out when I will be sitting on my butt in hot water for the second excursion. 😀 I'm the kind of person who likes to milk every day of a vacation as much as possible though. I never know when I will return to a country again, so see as much as possible while I'm there. I can sleep when I'm dead.
  3. I am in the same boat (NPI - okay, maybe I did intend it a little bit...). I am traveling with a multigenerational family group. We had four cabins in the cheap seats. All the cheap seats are on Deck 4. I assumed we would be one big happy family down on that deck together. Then my father and stepmother got their cabin assignment on Deck 5. My brother, traveling with two college-aged children, got his room assignments last week with both rooms on Deck 7. My husband and I are still waiting. We are wondering if we are the only ones who won't be upgraded. It's clear the family won't all be together (not a big deal). We are 14 days out now and would really love to know ahead of time where our cabin is. It helps me plan my days better to know what's close to us.
  4. On my last night of a Regent cruise I had a hamburger (or maybe it was a cheeseburger) from room service. It was the best burger I ever ate and I regretted not having more of them during the cruise.
  5. For me it depends on what's on offer and how hungry I am. In a specialty restaurant, I will eat all courses. In the MDR, if I see something in every course I want to eat, then I'll go for it. I also try to aim for balance. If I'm eating a rich, heavy, main, I will likely skip most of the previous courses unless one or two of them are heavy on the vegetables. Dessert is variable. Sometimes I'm too full. Sometimes there isn't anything on offer that interests me enough.
  6. Wow. This is the second post on this thread that makes me go 🥶🥶🥶 I agree to disagree with you, but lighten up people!!
  7. I am with you on that. I admit I am not a cruise person and only go on cruises because I have family members who are cruise people. In a perfect world, I would only cruise on smaller ships, but in a perfect world I could always afford smaller ships. I am only going on my upcoming Silversea cruise because someone else is paying for it as a birthday gift to me. Do I think a lot of the stuff they do on big ships is silly? Sure. But everyone can use a bit of silliness now and then.
  8. I thought it might be fun to hide a duck and see how far I could get it to travel. I'm going to Iceland. Someone takes my duck and hides it on a cruise to the Baltic, then someone takes it and hides it in Greece. It seems to be a be something that's common on big cruise ships and I'm sure there are so many of them going around that mine might be lost in the shuffle.
  9. Well, I think what you are trying to say is that everyone has different tastes. I don’t care if they are “made right”. Pumpkin pie, carrot cake, and fruit cake taste awful to me. It’s a waste of butter and sugar to add squash, vegetables, or candied fruits to them. This is me simply answering the question for myself. I am not speaking for everyone on this forum. Telling me you like what I hate isn’t going to change my mind.
  10. Depends on what kind of pie or what kind of cake? Coconut cream pie, cherry pie, blueberry pie, apple pie, chocolate cream pie, banana cream pie? Absolutely! Pumpkin pie? NO! Chocolate layer cake, chocolate mousse cake, black forest cake, German chocolate cake, banana cake, homemade vanilla layer cake, coconut cake? Apple cake? berry filled cake? YES Carrot cake, fruit cake? NO! Sometimes it's all about what I crave and what's on the menu. If I'm craving dessert, I will certainly hope my only two menu options aren't carrot cake and pumpkin pie. At that point, I want to know what flavors of ice cream are on offer (and hope I have options other than vanilla).
  11. It seems people decorate their doors because 1. it's fun and 2. it does make your room easier to spot so you don't walk past it when you had a few too many drinks. This is more of an issue on mega ships where the hallways are very long. I would like to know if anyone hides ducks on Silversea.
