  1. The cocktail party on the Discovery last week was at 4:30 and was basically over at 5:00 because they had to set up for the elite/platinum lounge beginning at 5:15 in the same venue. Sounds like it was pretty rushed to me.
  2. I also understand this. However, this has nothing to do with discontinuing the most traveled luncheon.
  3. Perhaps you would feel differently if you were in the top 40 most traveled group and they did away with the best perk (in my opinion) which was the luncheon.
  4. I talked to my friend that is on the Discovery for a B2B. She is the one who alerted me to the discontinuation of the luncheon fleetwide. They went to the MT cocktail party both weeks and were very disappointed. It was at 4:30 in the afternoon and was over at 5:00 because they had to set up for the elite lounge (beginning at 5:15) which was in the same venue (Take Five). Sounds very rush-rush and not at all special for the top 40 most traveled passengers. I think I'll just skip it.
  5. I do hope you are right. We have over 1000 days and have been on the top 40 list for a long time. I know how it works with the captain deciding which he prefers (luncheon or cocktail party). However, both the Discovery and the Sun had cocktail parties this week and my friends on these two ships were told this is the new thing going forward.
  6. Hi Tina! Bob doesn't drink soda either. At the luncheons and Captain Circle Cocktail parties, he orders Perrier. Unfortunately, he is allergic to shellfish and avoids other seafood, so that is also out. All in all, I am extremely disappointed about no more MTG luncheons. I'm really hoping that if enough people complain, they will rethink their discussion. It worked with traditional dining.
  7. Well, my hubby doesn't drink alcohol at all, so that really sucks. We would probably just skip the cocktail party all together if that happens on a ship we were on.
  8. Who was the captain and will he be on for our Oct. cruise? That you for your very informative review.
  9. Huh?? Are you saying you couldn't swap your mini bar items for ones you prefer?
  10. I'm happy to read that the Grand is still having luncheons. We will be sailing on her next January and again next August, so hopefully, we will still be able to enjoy this experience. One of my favorite things about going on a Princess cruise is seeing that little invitation on the bed inviting us to the MTG luncheon. While the cocktail party is very nice, the ones I have been to have been just 45 minutes. One barely has time to sit down, wait for a cocktail server to come and take your order and then you have to stand in line for some appitizers and then it is over. Plus, it conflicts with dinner. It is very rush, rush, whereas the luncheon is a lovely relaxed affair.
  11. As I mentioned, I would absolutely be extremely happy if this turned out to be a false rumor!. Over the years, I've been to lots of the luncheons and a few cocktail parties. I am aware that in the past it has been the captain that makes the decision as to whether to host a luncheon or the cocktail party. Both of my friends just got on the Discovery and the Sun a day or so ago and this is what they reported: The MTG luncheon has been discontinued fleetwide and from now on just the cocktail party.
  12. The two friends who brought this to my attention are elite passengers with Princess.
  13. I would LOVE to be wrong about this. However, two different sources (friend on the Discovery and a friend on the Sun) both confirmed.
  14. I just learned today that they are discontinuing the most traveled luncheon and will only honor those in the top 40 with a cocktail party. This is fleetwide. I, for one, am very unhappy. This is just one more thing that they are taking away from their most faithful passengers. What will it be next? Laundry?
  15. Thanks! Some of the ships have stairs that you have to navigate to get to the lower level so it is impossible for folks with mobility issues to get down there. We will be on the Emerald soon for 26 days so I am happy to hear that.
  16. In the theater is the handicapped section way up on deck 7 or is there access to deck 6 to sit down near the stage?
  17. So much fun to read another review from Sailor Jack. It's been way too long!!
  18. I sure am glad that you are all settled in your new (and dry) cabin. What a bummer, but happy that you are moving forward with a positive attitude. I am enjoying reading your "live from".
  19. Thanks so much for the wonderful review. We were on for the B2B also and agree with all you said. It really was one of the best cruises ever.
  20. Our ports will be Ensenada, Cabo San Lucas, Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan and Manzanillo. We would like to pick up some medications on our upcoming cruise. Does anyone have any experience with a reliable pharmacy in one of these ports?
  21. Thanks everyone for your input. I guess we will just wait and see what happens!!
  22. We will be going on the March 31st sailing on the Discovery. Just wondering what, if anything, they do for the top 40 most traveled passengers.
  23. I totally prefer the lunch over the cocktail party. While the cocktail party is lovely with marvelous tid bits to eat and anything you want to drink, it is too short. We've been to several over the years and they are only around 45 minutes. Not nearly enough time!!
  24. Since the start up after Covid, we have been on quite a few cruises and all of the MTP affairs were lunches and not cocktail parties. With 500 days, I would say that you will make the cut one of these days. Keep cruising!!! Looking forward to seeing you in a few weeks.
