Wtg, Ricky!  Keep those numbers up!

Re"   The catkins.  I have never heard that name before.  We do, however, have more than our share of the catkins.  The Neverending Story when it comes to them taking over our decks, the lawn, etc.

That is why I am glad we put a gazebo over our hot tub.  With that, and the curtains, it keeps all that out of that area.

Using it is our morning ritual.  Nothing like starting the day with a soak in the hot tub while catching up on the news.   Always there from 6am to 7 am.

  2. Here I am, salivating over that WJ food that @Ourusualbeach is posting from Exploria.  Meanwhile, I am tackling those horrible home chores like picking up catkins.

Yes, that dumpster is filled with those now, and that was just what fell since Monday after I mowed.  And, I only did half the yard before the rain got here. It is one of the main reasons we can’t really use our deck until after Memorial Day.  I love the shade from those large oaks, but hate these every spring.

Just read on the Celebrity board that our friend here on Dani's thread @helen haywood fell and broke her leg on her Beyond cruise. 😞

ouch!   Sorry to read this.  At least it looks like she was able to continue on the cruise, and not have to deal with getting back from St. Thomas.

  4. Today was grandparent luncheon day at our granddaughter’s school.  We brought in toasted subs from our favorite sub shop.  Much better than eating school cafeteria food.

The school did this every year, but then stopped in 2020 due to the pandemic.  This was the first restart since then.  We went before then with our grandson, but this was the first with our granddaughter.

Yeah, we snuck in a cherry coke for her too.

Tonight, it was packing 142 bags of food for kids to take home for the weekend.  Only two more weeks of packing before school is out.

Another lucky thing about the storm -- I was originally scheduled to work 7pm-7am on my regular inpatient unit, but I got put on-call because we didn't have enough patients to justify a full staff.  If I had left for work at my normal time, I would have crossed paths with the tornado just as it entered the city from the southwest.

And even if the tornado hadn't gotten me, the deluge of rain was so severe that I wouldn't have been able to see, and if I pulled over to wait it out, I could have been hit by another vehicle that didn't stop.  You literally couldn't see the front of your own car during the worst of the downpours, and you certainly wouldn't be able to see the lane markers or another vehicle!

All in all, exceedingly lucky.  Maybe I'm on Mother Nature's good side (or maybe she's afraid of my redheaded temper! 🤣).

Glad everything is ok with you.  No damage at your place?

Tornadoes can be strange creatures.  We have had a few touch down in our area, but they are rare.  First I remember was in 1985, and the only damage we had was hail damage to two of or cars.  So, like responsible young adults, we took the insurance money and flew to Hawaii for a couple weeks.

Some other tornadoes, I worked on a damage assessment team to review structural damage to assess if repairable or destroyed.

I didn't realize you get a rose for being Elite.  I thought the rose in our cabin on Beyond was from our cabin steward since we gave him all of our chocolate covered strawberries  that were delivered to our cabin from a friend of ours!  LOL!😊

Now I feel bad.  We never got a rose!

    Thank you, Mark!🥰

With so much going on for you, I do hope it has been all good!😉

Some good, and some not so good.

Good, as far as the latest scans for our daughter last week.

Not so good, in that our friend, Greg, passed away unexpectedly from complications due to a cardiac event.  He was a musician, and played with several bands in his career.  Very talented on keyboard, brass and vocals.  Susan and I helped out with the funeral dinner.

His funeral was unlike any I had ever been to.  Many of his band members came and played some of his favorites as a tribute.  At the end of the service, a video appeared on the screens of Greg playing and singing  an arrangement that was perfect for the end.  There wasn’t a dry eye in the place, and I guess he got to play at his own funeral.

RIP Greg.  You will be missed.

Our Twin daughters are celebrating their birthdays today!  Melanie is driving home from packing up most of our granddaughter's college dorm possessions at URI.  Judy requested tacos for dinner, perhaps since today is Cinco de Mayo.😊

    Happy birthday to your daughters.

So much going on the last couple days, it has been hard keeping up here.

Strike one against Westjet.  They just made an announcement that the in flight entertainment system would be unavailable for our 5 hour flight.

    Strike 2, no charging ports.

That is why we always have entertainment downloaded to our iPad and phones, as well as fully charged portable chargers.  That happened to us once, and we were glad we were prepared.

They do not show on my iPhone or iPad either.  On a windows PC, they just show as a link, but when you click on it, it brings up a broken link symbol.

I have had instances of some photos not posting from certain programs.  I found that doing a screenshot, then cropping and posting that works fine.  As an added benefit, the file size to upload is smaller.

They arrived Friday afternoon and left Monday night on what used to be a cheap Allegiant direct flight.  Not so cheap anymore.

Cheap flights are almost impossible to find anymore.  I know the ones we booked this summer are much higher.

I was shocked when my son told me that they looked into flights for his in-laws to fly from China.  They were looking at 15k per person, round trip in economy.

The one thing I have learned is that there are days that you have a question that you would like to ask them as they are the only ones who know the answer and you can’t get your question answered. I wished I would have asked more questions of my parents.

You are so right about questions we wish we could ask.  I think that may be one of the reasons that our daughters gifted both Jim and I with the subscription to our own Storyworth book with question suggestions that we could write about.  For example, "what was your mom like when you were a child?  What was your 21st birthday like?  etc.  I finally finished my book with 52 stories for our daughters and grandchildren to read.

    Thank you so much, Bonnie.😘

I know when I started my book on our family tree, there were several things I found that I wish I could have asked my parents, or that Susan could have asked hers.  It seems that no one in the family was aware of certain things.  One, was that my one grandfather had a marriage prior to my grandmother.  If my mother, or her sister knew, it was never shared.

Another was a prior marriage of Susan’s grandfather, and the son he had from that marriage.  And it seems like some things are closely held secrets, for what ever reason.  After discovering this, and asking one of Susan’s aunts, she was aware but never shared, even though she kept asking what I had found.

My self imposed timeline to finish my book has passed, but it is nearly finalized.  I have reached a point to where I am conflicted about what I should include about a few of the living relatives.  Since the book will be primarily for my kids and grandkids, do I include things about prior marriages and/or children of those relatives?  There are things that are not talked about, and my kids are probably not aware of them.

Thank goodness that neither Susan or I have any deep dark secrets about us.  At least that’s what she claims.

Today marks 43 years since my Dad died at the age of 61.  He was a Foreman working on the 2nd Avenue Subway project when he fell down 25 feet, head first.  He was a very healthy, strong man who never smoked in his life.  He remained in a coma for a week before finally passing, which was a Blessing, due to his extensive injuries.

I was sorry to read this about your dad.  It is difficult when we lose a parent, especially at a young age. Susan’s dad passed away 42 years ago at the age of 53.
