  1. Darn. I realize there are going to be cases on cruises, but I still hate it for the passenger. You know that they are probably a cruise lover who has been anticipating their Alaskan sailing so much and then it all came to such a disappointing end. Here's wishing them the best of luck and I hope they recover quickly!

  2. The only thing I remember about those stairs was that I fell down them in the rain once (in high heels)!  I blamed the rain making the stairs slick, not too many 🥂 LOL.

There was a crew member close to where I landed and his eyes were wide open with an "uh oh" look. He ran somewhere (to report it? to get help? to laugh?) while my DH helped me up. Our whole party (and other bystanders) just laughed and laughed. I thought I'd never hear the end of it 😁

  3. I don't know if this will affect the August Indy test cruise or not, but Galveston news shows this:

Four crew members aboard Royal Caribbean Cruises’ Independence of the Seas have tested positive for COVID-19, and more than two dozen other crew members are in quarantine, according to the Galveston County Health District.

The infections have caused the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to put the ship under tighter monitoring procedures, just 12 days before it’s supposed to embark on a safety- proving test cruise from the Port of Galveston.

  4. I think I'd hold off and cruise at a later date LOL (No shows get a full refund).

According to Singapore Cruise Society, which cites an email sent by Royal Caribbean International to guests departing on the Quantum of the Seas’ Ocean Getaway voyages between July 23 and Aug. 16, the sailings’ guest capacity will be reduced to 25 percent.

Group sizes will be limited to two guests, and guests from the same households may travel in the same stateroom but will be required to stick to a maximum of two per group while in public areas.

Restaurants and bars will be closed, but the main dining room menu will be available through room service, Royal Caribbean International  announced. Guests will have to dine in their cabins.

Capacity for all live entertainment shows will also be restricted to 50 guests.

Permitted onboard activities, such as those in SeaPlex, Activitity Zone and Pool Zone will continue to operate at reduced capacity, Singapore Cruise Society wrote.

Guests who pre-purchased dining and beverage packages will be refunded automatically.

In addition, the affected sailings’ guests are requested to arrive one hour before their scheduled check-in time to complete a complimentary antigen rapid test at the terminal before check-in. This is on top of the PCR test conducted in the days leading up to embarkation day.

According to everyone's favorite cruise lawyer (ha!) it sounds like the Jewel might have had a couple positives onboard:

"Unfortunately, two guests tested positive for COIVD-19, according to crew members on the ship who wish to remain anonymous. The guests were reportedly isolated, and the cruise line is in the process of testing over a dozen people who were in close contact with the two infected guests who were assigned the same cabin. Eight crew members are reportedly in isolation, including the guests’ stateroom attendant and seven dining room employees as well."

  6. To see this in writing, be sure and read the "Getting Ready to Cruise" section - go here and choose Limassol, Cyprus in the "Where are you sailing from" box:

When you choose Cyprus you'll see:

GETTING READY TO CRUISE FROM CYPRUS On Jewel of the Seas

The protocols communicated here apply only to guests departing from Limassol, Cyprus on Jewel of the Seas®. We will continue to update these protocols as public health situations evolve. Guidance for all other departure ports is still in development with national and local authorities. Booked guests will be provided full details specific to their port of departure prior to sailing, however these are subject to change.

Travel parties with unvaccinated guests that wish to go ashore must purchase a local tour through Royal Caribbean, including parents traveling with unvaccinated children. We have worked with local tour operators to ensure they follow health and safety guidance that aligns with our Healthy Sail Panel recommendations. Shore Excursions are available at a variety of price points and may be purchased in advance on Cruise Planner or once onboard using the Royal Caribbean App.  Entirely vaccinated traveling parties may visit the port freely. This policy is subject to change as we continue to evaluate circumstances around the globe.

I grew up on cruise ships, I remember the days where you had to line up outside on the promenade, with the women and children first AND having to wear a life jacket.  I always said I felt like a Teletubby wearing it, plus it was REALLY hot out, so that was no bueno.

And speaking of no bueno, think of all the people standing there who blew the attached whistles - I can remember hearing all the *tweet* *tweet* *tweets* in the crowd. 🤪

Now it seems crazy that no one even considered the germs from all the different lips that touched those. It's surprising that Whistleovid wasn't a thing LOL.

  8. A couple days ago Princess cancelled their remaining Australia cruises through December 19, 2021. 😞

Information on Impacted & Cancelled Cruises

    Updated June 30, 2021 6:00pm PT

Like so many facets of life, travel has been hit hard by recent events. It is with a heavy heart that Princess Cruises has made the extremely difficult decision to temporarily pause our global ship operations. We know you were looking forward to sailing with us, and we apologize and share in your disappointment over these cancellations. You don’t need to take any action to receive the default compensation offer. You can find out details of your compensation by clicking the link that matches your sail date below.

Remaining Cruises from Australian Ports through December 19, 2021

This was in response to the 2 unvaccinated kids on the Adventure testing positive yesterday.

And in response to the two COVID cases on Celebrity, Royal changed their protocols to require a pre-embarkation test of 100% of the passengers (prior it was just unvaccinated passengers). (NCL continues to require pre-embarkation tests of 100% of the passengers on fully vaccinated cruises).

I also see now that Celebrity is requiring ship excursions for Mexico for everyone on their Edge sailing tomorrow (6/26). I guess the bottom line is to be prepared right now for anything to pop up to avoid disappointment 😉

In an abundance of caution to keep our guests and crew healthy at sea, we will require curated tours in Mexico for our June 26 sailing on Celebrity Edge. Based on the most recent travel advisory and vaccination rates in Mexico, we have reevaluated On Your Own Tours and instead will require Celebrity curated tours. Curated tours can be booked through Cruise Planner or the Celebrity Cruises app.  We will continuously evaluate these requirements and provide updates as they evolve. We look forward to welcoming you on board soon.

Celebrity curated tours are required in Costa Maya*, Cozumel* and Roatan

*Celebrity Edge 6/26 only.  We will continue to monitor and evaluate.

Royal also said that non-vaccinated will be separated from vaccinated, ie. theater, dining. I assume other lines will follow suit.

Plus now on Adventure unvaccinated guests must take ship excursions instead of on your own tours, including parents traveling with unvaccinated children:

    Dear Guest,

We’ve been preparing for your sailing and now that we have had a couple of Adventure of the Seas sailings, we have an updated requirement to share with you.

In abundance of caution, when visiting ports other than Perfect Day at CocoCay, parties that include unvaccinated guests, including parents traveling with unvaccinated children, are required to participate in shore excursions offered by local tour operators approved by Royal Caribbean. These tours meet our health and safety requirements for unvaccinated guests. Entirely vaccinated traveling parties may visit the port freely. All guests are subject to restrictions and requirements as defined by local authorities in the ports we visit. Additional details will be provided onboard.

We are sorry for the last-minute change for unvaccinated guests and those traveling with them. The decision was made to protect you and the communities we visit. To help offset this change, on this sailing, shore excursions will be offered at a discounted rate for guests under 16. Once onboard, please visit the shore excursions desk on Deck 5 and our amazing team will help find the perfect excursion that will give you that adventure you’ve been looking for or the laidback vacation you’ve been dreaming about for over a year.

If you have questions or concerns, please contact us at 954-628-9290 or 1-800-256-6649. We will gladly answer your questions and work with you to reschedule or refund your cruise.

Click here if you would like to revisit all health requirements for your sailing.

We look forward to having you onboard for our Royal Comeback!

John Heald mentioned briefly this morning something about not going to Cozumel.  This was a response to a comment on his FB live video.  Is Carnival not going to Cozumel in July and August?  Has anyone received any information on this?  Cozumel is one of our favorite ports.

Interesting that Celebrity has now announced that everyone will need to take ship tours/excursions in Mexico on the Edge sailings tomorrow instead of going out on your own:

    Dear Guest,

We look forward to welcoming you aboard Celebrity Edge® for your 7-Night Western Caribbean cruise sailing from Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Before we depart, we have some important information to share. 12. And that 2 on Adventure makes 21 positive on RCG in last 30 days.

JMO I realized many moons ago we were probably going to see positive cases on ships, and all you can do now is watch how the cruise line's plans/protocols work when put into action.

  13. Every year my DH and I plan one of our cruises to be with my BFF and her husband to commemorate the end of my BFF's chemo treatments for breast cancer. It's been many years now, so keep in mind that you'll also have many cruises and other travel delights to look forward to! ☺️

Hang in there, and hopefully chemo won't be so bad for you. I remember my BFF only complained of one thing - and this was the only thing - all she wanted to eat during chemo time was a Burger King Whopper Jr, onion rings and a milkshake. She usually eats very healthily and felt so guilty, but that was it, and so her husband faithfully drove through that BK drive thru daily. LOL she can't stand the thought of it now!

Of course we've missed a couple of those celebration cruises with the pandemic, but can't wait to start back up and toast her again. 🍸

Best of luck to you and hope all treatment goes as smoothly for you!
