  1. crew-center is reporting two crew members have been airlifted from the Summit due to chemical burns. Praying that they will be OK:

"Two crew members from a cruise ship off the coast of Virginia Beach were evacuated by the Coast Guard to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital after suffering chemical burns.

As stated by the Coast Guard, the two injured were on board the Celebrity Summit cruise ship approximately 69 miles from shore. The cruise ship contacted the Coast Guard Fifth District Command Center, which sent the crew of the Elizabeth City MH-60 Jayhawk Coast Guard helicopter to transport the injured. A doctor from the cruiser was also taken to the helicopter".

  2. Thanks for another super "Saint Greg Production" and taking us along with you! Just wonderful and much appreciated!

Sorry that you are Covid positive, but at least you didn't get the "other" thing that was going around the ship at the same time (well, at least not mentioned!). Hmm, if it was Noro and you had both, would that be a case of "CoNo"? 😄

BTW here's the info on the investigation for the "other" on the Splendor by the CDC Vessel Sanitation Program (77 pax, 16 crew) - they will eventually post their findings as to the cause. In 2019 there was an outbreak on a different line traced back to frozen raspberries, of all things!

And Carnival Freedom caught on fire……. 😳

And an exterior painting project on the Carnival Magic made people sick enough for the Coast Guard to investigate (so if trouble always comes in threes, that makes 3 ships and we should be all done now (knock on driftwood LOL):

The Shiplife on youtube has a video of an officer (can't get a good view to tell which one) discussing paint fumes with some passengers and what Carnival is going to offer them $$ (VERY nice compensation JMO) - that part starts about the 7:00 mark:

Unfortunately, today, Wednesday, we tested positive for COVID-19.  So we are now in isolation at home.  Our only symptoms were a mild flu like cold.

Oh no! I just wondered if you had any knowledge of others reports on that sailing and had no idea that you would have any trouble too when I posted the link above. I sincerely hope you both feel better quickly!

  6. Thanks for the report! The comparisons always make for good reading, and help with planning future cruises. 😁

A funny thing was soon after I saw your report, I saw another 5/23 Quantum cruisers report over on the RCI board - but his was a bit different lol. Were you aware this was happening on your sailing? Here's a link if you haven't seen it:

  7. Thanks again for posting your thoughts throughout this entire experience because as I've grown older I've found preparation is a must for travel - at least have a plan in case the worst happens (travel insurance, high limit credit card, etc.) and your story just reminds me of that before we head out again.

I'm glad Jair assisted you so capably, but I think we can all imagine it was his pleasure dealing with "good people" like you 😉

  8. Re the crutches - make sure they are set for your height. The other lady I posted about who broke her ankle was pretty short and she was having a hard time with her crutches. They tried to adjust hers, but she found out that they were already set for the shortest height, which for that pair was 5' 10"! And no shorter ones available!

Prayers to you to get you both home safe and sound and pain free! 👼

OMG I will check this out at some point; misery loves company!  Bet it was worse happening on the island

Of all people you will know exactly where she's coming from! Both of your accidents sound like something that could happen to me - usually when I get hurt it's at the most inopportune time LOL. 🙃

Hope you rest up and recover quickly!

  10. OP do you think your husband might have meant Carnival instead of RCI - because Carnival does have some sailings requiring boosters but only if you are more than 6 months past your last dose of your initial vaccine:

"The following Carnival cruises require fully vaccinated guests who are more than 6 months past the last dose of their initial vaccine series to be boosted in order to sail:

    Carnival Spirit 16-day Carnival Journeys – April 17, 2022
    Carnival Pride Transatlantic – April 24, 2022
Carnival Pride Barcelona departures – May 8, May 19 and May 29, 2022
Carnival Splendor 23-day Carnival Journey (Transpacific) – September 6, 2022

For all other Carnival cruises, booster shots are just a recommendation and not a requirement."

Sounds painful!  I wish her a full recovery.   Yes, royal did a great job.   KUDOS to her Hubby too!   And then poor doggy was sick too!

I was really impressed when they ordered an ambulance for her when she couldn't climb into the FLL transfer they arranged for her - and they told her no charge too!

I felt bad when she said she didn't want to go on the Flowrider because she was afraid of getting hurt, and then ended up on the floor of the restroom in Coco Cay! And then had to maneuver pulling up her wet bathing suit while laying on the floor with a broken ankle yikes. 🙃

He should be able to do the water stuff Just beware that will be a busy week. They only give 5 percent exemptions for unvaccinated and you might not know if they got one until right before you sail. I personally would be stressed about not getting one.

This made me remember the poster who still didn't know if they were going to get an exemption 5 days before their cruise - OP you might be interested in reading the link to that thread below if you haven't already seen it.

BTW did anyone ever read if they made it onboard? Hopefully they did. Maybe @jenny368 will stop in and say what happened in their case with the 10 year old. There were plenty of crossed fingers here for them and now I'll cross mine for OP CM1984 too 😉

  13. I was surprised to see the 270 day requirement this afternoon when I helped a friend book some (non-cruise) air on Delta to Prague for next week (he's had his booster so he's OK, but that could have grounded him too!):

**As of February 15, 2022, the Czech government considers the validity of COVID-19 vaccinations to be nine months (270 days) from the date of the second dose. A booster shot extends the validity indefinitely.

  14. crew-center article about current cruise (article also has video of passengers complaining in theater):

"Due to technical issues, MSC Seaside has made adjustments to the current transatlantic voyage to Europe from Brazil, canceling two ports in the Canary Islands. The cruise ship canceled the arrivals to Santa Cruz de la Palma on March 28 and Santa Cruz de Tenerife on March 30, replacing them with an overnight stay in Las Palmas Gran Canaria.

The Brazilian newspaper Correio Braziliense reports that some guests expressed their disappointment and anger in the ship’s theater interrupting the performance of the South African singer Vick Vicus demanding explanation. The atmosphere became tense and Captain Lauro Maresca was called to explain the reason for the canceled port stops. The newspaper released the following video of guests protesting in the ship's theatre.

One guest said that “the ship has not stopped in any port since Rio de Janeiro. There was a protest in the theater because they cut two ports. The ship is sailing very slowly. The first information we received is because of a fuel shortage. Now the latest information we have is that there is a problem with the engine and will travel to one of the Canary Islands and stay overnight there to carry out the repair.”

MSC Cruises released the following statement:

“We confirm that it was necessary to make an adjustment to the itinerary of the MSC Seaside due to urgent operational reasons beyond our control.

We had to cancel the stops in Santa Cruz de La Palma and Santa Cruz de Tenerife, heading straight to Las Palmas and staying in the city for an overnight, before heading to Funchal.

We regret the change of itinerary and apologize for the inconvenience. We are doing our best to compensate our guests with onboard credit and ferry tickets from Las Palmas to Tenerife, so that they could visit the city if they wish. We emphasize that the health and safety of our guests and crew were never at risk during this itinerary adjustment."
