We are on Beyond at Port Everglades and we didn't make it out either. The weather doesn't even look that bad!

I don't know if this is the correct reason, but someone asked on PTZ twitter (the port webcam people) why it closed and someone else answered "Really bad weather that was making departures with pilots extremely hazardous for the pilots.."  Sounds feasible to me - I'm such a klutz I can't imagine climbing that ladder from the pilot boat even when its calm lol 😉

  2. I always feel so sorry for the cruisers this happens to. :classic_sad: Besides returning for medical emergencies I've been on ships that have returned because of accidents/injuries that happen right after sailing - usually due to falls.

JMO one good thing I've noticed is that nobody complains about returning (well at least that I've ever heard). And I agree the cruise lines are wonderful in these circumstances, but can't imagine the person's disappointment after the excitement of boarding only to have to leave again. I hope this cruiser will be OK and can cruise again soon.

All crew still wearing masks on the 14 day that ended in Galveston yesterday and a huge amount of covid on board by the end. More passengers coughing than not. Utterly impossible to stop it, masks or not

JMO I agree it's impossible to stop now, but I also don't think anyone is shocked by this news anymore (at least here on CC). By now most (if not all) people cruising are fully aware of the possibility and will still cruise, no matter the numbers. Sailing on 😉

  5. 😉 Port Canaveral FYI as of 4:00 pm 9/26/22:

    Current Port Conditions: X-RAY

CONDITION "X-RAY" The U.S. Coast Guard Captain of the Port (COTP) has set Port Condition "X-RAY" for Port Canaveral: Sustained gale force winds are predicted within 48hours. Port Canaveral remains open and conducting normal Port operations, but anticipates limited waterside and vessel shoreside Port operations will follow as conditions change.

    <and>

    IMPORTANT MARINE NOTIFICATION
Port Canaveral has been closely monitoring the progress and track of Hurricane Ian. The U.S. Coast Guard Captain of the Port (COTP) Jacksonville has set Port Condition X-RAY for Port Canaveral as of 4:00 PM Monday, Sept. 26th, and we expect to progress to Port Condition YANKEE by tomorrow (Tuesday, Sept. 27th) evening.

Based on current forecasts and storm information, Port Canaveral will receive heavy rain and high winds (Tropical Storm force or greater) as early as Wednesday morning, Sept. 28th.

Subsequently, Port Canaveral is notifying all maritime interests that once Port Condition YANKEE is set, ALL vessels under 500 GT – including vessels berthed at marinas located in Port Canaveral – are required to shelter in place. All vessels must double up on mooring lines at berth and take all measures possible to weather proof the vessel. Furthermore, no vessel movements will be allowed in Port Canaveral. Vessel movements will be monitored and violations will be enforced.

The situation is subject to change based on the storm’s track and potential impact to Port Canaveral.

Latest word on the national news this evening was that the launch will most likely be cancelled.

    😁 Here's a couple good sites for launch schedules/cancellations:

One model shows it heading more toward the north west part of Florida, another one has it making landfall  in the Tampa area or fort Meyer. We should have a better idea tomorrow. I drive down to port Canaveral Wednesday from Charlotte for my cruise Thursday unless NCL changes it to Friday,

😉 You can follow Port Canaveral port conditions here:

    https://www.portcanaveral.com/About/Severe-Weather-Awareness

Right now it shows (but usually can/will change quite a number of times):

CONDITION "WHISKEY" - The U.S. Coast Guard Captain of the Port (COTP) has set hurricane condition "WHISKEY" for Port Canaveral: Sustained gale force winds are predicted within 72 hours.  Port Canaveral is currently fully open and conducting normal Port operations.

Hope you have a wonderful cruise with no delays! I'm right up the coast so fingers crossed here too.

    Close, but not quite...

Take a look at the balcony that "belongs with" 15796...

I'd surely want to know about that before booking... and not everyone realizes the importance of looking at the deck plans.  Not everyone is a CC member; most cruise passengers aren't.

And IF that was the cabin/suite I had, I'd at least expect to pay less than the mirror image 15196.  That still has a friendly tube in sight, but at least there seems to be *some* usable balcony space.

It's just a matter of providing the appropriate information, so that consumers know what they are getting...

    GC

cruisedeckplans now has a little "blinker" on the deck plan for two staterooms on Deck 12 (not Haven but Cat SJ and BA) that shows a balcony view (tried to mark in yellow so you can see what I mean by "blinker"):

    image.png.e62509bde9cc8f1d3d1a7ae50a825c1d.png

When you click on the blinker it brings up a picture of the balcony - hopefully they will be adding lots more photos soon that will really help people:

    image.png.52483bf6c1d8e8af496498b2f742a0e1.png

That said, I'm one of those people who wouldn't mind this (just glad to be on a ship!) but I can understand those who would be disappointed.

The only thing that makes me hesitate about the slides is the one that dumps you out in front of the people sitting at tables alongside. It might take me a minute to get my old bones in order to be able to jump up. As a matter of fact, if you ever hear people saying "You go old girl, you can do it!" it might be me LOL 😄

  9. Such a sad story. This article has more info about the passenger:

"A 58-year-old woman who was a longtime employee at Erie's Gannon University was killed in a shark attack while snorkeling with her family in the Bahamas on Tuesday, the university said.

Gannon identified the woman as Caroline DiPlacido in a statement released to the university community and the Erie Times-News on Wednesday morning. She was vacationing with her family in the Bahamas, the statement said.

DiPlacido, a Millcreek Township resident, was project coordinator in community and government relations at Gannon, according to the university.

She graduated from Gannon in 1986 and was hired at the university in July 2009 as a secretary in marketing and communications.

In her job as project coordinator, DiPlacido was involved in Gannon's Erie-G.A.I.N.S. initiative, for Erie-Gannon Alliances to Improve Neighborhood Sustainability, and the Our West Bayfront effort to enhance the neighborhood near Gannon, in downtown Erie.

"Along with her efforts to further the mission of Erie-GAINS and Our West Bayfront, Caroline was a powerful presence of kindness and friendship to colleagues, students and the wider community and cherished many family ties to Gannon," according to Gannon's statement, from the university chaplain, the Rev. Michael Kesicki. "The news is devastating, and she will be missed.

"We pray for Caroline as she crosses over to eternity. We pray for her husband, David, her children, David, Robert and Allison; her mother, Olivia; and her wider family.

"Let us remember Caroline with affection and hope."

Gannon said the university will hold a prayer service on campus at 3 p.m. Wednesday."

  10. Just a friendly guess, but could you have mixed up the year when checking? Because in 2022, the September 10, 2022 sailing is for 7 nights not 6 (returning September 17, 2022), like this on the Carnival site:

7 Days Eastern Caribbean from Port Canaveral (Orlando), FL

    Mardi Gras
    Sep 10, 2022 - Sep 17, 2022

In 2023, the September 10, 2023 sailing is 6 nights but the next sailing is September 16, 2023 (not the 17th):

6 Days Eastern Caribbean from Port Canaveral (Orlando), FL

    Mardi Gras
    Sep 10, 2023 - Sep 16, 2023

7 Days Western Caribbean from Port Canaveral (Orlando), FL
    Mardi Gras
    Cozumel Plus
    Sep 16, 2023 - Sep 23, 2023

    HTH! 😉

    Celebrity Silhouette

User @8611202 posted this back in January that might help:

"On the newly refurbished Silhouette, only a small part of the outside deck exclusively for Retreat guests is wheelchair accessible. The largest desk where the bar and many shaded areas are located is accessed by the exterior steps. Which of course makes the upper deck inaccessible for guests who cannot use steps. Staff on board have always been helpful in bringing food and drinks from the upper deck, but it is difficult when the lower Retreat deck is busy and there is no space there to relax, and there is no shade".

Such a small sentence but this is one of the nicest things I have ever read on CC. What lovely kids to think of doing that with some of their souvenir money! And thanks to you for your enjoyable review! 😊

  14. Anyone heard about a Wonder delay today? crew-center is reporting the Marseille port was blocked by "Stop Cruises" activists:

"This morning about 20 activists from the “Stop Cruises” movement attempted to block the entrance of the Wonder of the Seas and MSC Orchestra at the port of Marseille in France. The activists on inflatable canoes blocked the cruise ships from entering the port for two hours.

They positioned themselves at a good distance from Wonder of the Seas in a way that the approaching maneuvers to the northern entrance of the port were impossible. The harbor master's office quickly interrupted all traffic at the port entrance.

The maritime police intervened, keeping the protesters near the dike so that the ships can enter the harbour".

  15. LOL. Though NASA probably wishes they would have held a lot longer - I just posted on another thread that NASA lost both satellites today:

"Just over seven minutes after the 1:43 p.m. ET liftoff from Launch Complex 46, a flash below Rocket 3.3's upper stage appeared before its single engine prematurely shut down. Two NASA science payloads designed to study storms, named TROPICS, were attached to the second stage which began to tumble without thrust.

Astra quickly confirmed both small satellites – two of six NASA is hoping to launch for the small weather constellation – were lost".
