  1. You'd think they would be dingoes in Australia. Harris Denver, CO
  2. @stavy No,not necessarily. You will get a sunset veranda OR BETTER. This can be a problem on Edge class in particular, as most people would consider the sunset veranda to be superior to an infinite veranda, but the Prime Infinite veranda is usually priced higher than a Sunset Veranda, and thus is a "better" cabin for the purposes of a GTY booking. Likewise, I would rather have a Sunset veranda on Edge Class than a Concierge or even Aqua cabin, but those would certainly be considered "better" cabins. Harris Denver, CO
  3. I’ve read the dress code threads here. I’m not going out in something with all those wrinkles! πŸ˜‚ Harris Denver, CO
  4. LOL, I often think when I'm bothered by younger people's behavior that my real issue isn't annoyance at what they're doing, but jealousy that I'm not/can't. πŸ™‚ Harris Denver, CO
  5. My email address is in my signature line. Send me an email, and I'll give you specific cabin numbers you might want to check for in those sub-categories. Harris Denver, CO
  6. You could switch to another 2D, but it will have the same obstruction. I've sailed in several 2D and 2 C cabins, and they're certainly not bad. Harris Denver, CO
  7. You could switch to another Veranda, but to stay within the same sub-category, you're still going to have an obstructed view. Even being Zenith does not affect GTY cabin assignments. Harris Denver, CO
  8. Again, that was the best available cabin in the eyes of the person making the assignment, i.e. Celebrity Cruises. The person assigning GTY cabins is likely told here are cabins frm which you can make assignments, not assign from all Veranda or better cabins. In my view your complaint would perhaps be with your travel agent. Any travel agent should know the potential benefits and pitfalls of a GTY booking, and advise a first time cruiser client of those. Harris Denver, CO
  9. And the fact is it's a cabin on a cruise ship, so it's not bad at all in the grand scheme of things. Harris Denver, CO
  10. It is fairly common for Celebrity to assign the guaranty room within a few days of booking. The term "best" in the case of a GTY cabin, should be read as the "best" for Celebrity. They have a better likelihood of selling that more desirable, and more expensive cabin for full fare, than they do of selling the obstructed view cabin. You can ask to be placed back int he guaranty pool, but you should not expect a better cabin to be the result. Any time one books a GTY booking, the important question is "is this price good enough that I will be happy with the worst cabin in the category I'm booking"? If I book a Veranda GTY, I assume I'm going to get an obstructed view, with the maximum obstruction (what used to be called a 2D veranda). I would book with that expectation, and thus be happy with that or anything better. Harris Denver, CO
  11. When this thread started with the complaint that - for whatever reason - Celebrity has decided to have a few hours a day that those under 16 would be allowed in the solarium; there was a modicum of reason for it here. Then it devolved into a general concern about children being on ships; and then into a discussion of whether children should be on a ship when school is in session. I'm hard pressed to think of anything that is less my business than how parents choose to vacation with their children. I know schools have many varying schedules, varying requirements for attendance, and I know many children are home schooled, and some have private education that's on a completely on demand basis. Regardless of any of these factors, other people's children's presence on a cruise I booked is definitely not my business. If they somehow behave in a way that negatively affects me, my recourse is limited to addressing that specific behavior. However, Celebrity can choose exactly what rules to have, and further exactly what rules to enforce. If I dislike that, my issue is with Celebrity, not with children or their parents. Seeing a child on a ship on a specific date, and coming to the conclusion that their parents are substandard because - in my assessment - that is a school day would be the height of arrogance on my part. Perhaps on the Solstice class ships, that have the lawn feature; Celebrity could introduce a scheduled activity: "Get off my lawn! Those of us of a certain age could go there, and practice trying to enforce our will on strangers. πŸ™‚ Harris Denver, CO
  12. I frequently order two appetizer (e.g. soup and salad, or two different soups). Generally they will be served one then the other, but I've had them both brought at the same time. In any event it's never been a problem, My most recent cruise was the first week of February. Harris Denver, CO
  13. We we in one last fall. If I had it to do again, I'd have gone with the Infinite Veranda. You lose the square footage of the veranda from the room, and the veranda isn't large enough to really enjoy. So, my opinion is the Sunset Verandas on Edge class are my first choice, then Infinite Verandas, and finally the Porthole Verandas. Harris Denver, CO
  14. It's very unlikely to return, as the Deal or No Deal seems to be a bigger draw. Harris Denver, CO
  15. None of the Celebrity ships have shuffleboard anymore. I don't know about other lines. Harris Denver, CO
  16. Hardly a stupid question You may indeed refill your own container with water. They do ask that you not refill the bottle directly from a dispenser, but instead use a glass to transfer water from the dispenser to your container. This is a health protection measure mandated by regulatory agencies,a nd does make good sense when one thinks about it; but you're absolutely able to use your own container, and it's far better for the environment. Harris Denver, CO
  17. No. They won't do this. Harris Denver, CO
  18. That was the most recent, other than the one-point "Forbes Award" email. Neither of which are still available. Thus it's time to redirect this post from celebration over receiving our points to complaining about the lack of opportunities, and speculation that the program has ended forever, and that we didn't like the program anyway, and we'll probably all switch to cruising Oceania, and the Captain's Club program doesn't have enough tiers, and that it's too hard and too easy to get to the next tier, and the Elite free drinks should be offered on the first night, and should be in a lounge, but the lounge should not be that particular lounge because it's better to be able to get them anywhere, and that benefit is worthless because everyone has drink packages, but if they try to take it away that would be grounds for a law suit, and... Well, you get the idea πŸ™‚ Harris Denver, CO
  19. I am one now, and have no children. My point was a poster referred to children as "Rug Rats", and the complaints here have gone far afield from children in the solarium. In my experience, I've seen far more rude adults than rude children or parents on Celebrity cruises; and far more adults violating the rule in the solarium against excessive noise, than children violating the rules against being present. Harris Denver, CO
  20. And I suppose if they wanted to be around Coffin-Dodgers, they'd sail Holland America; yet here we are learning to coexist. Harris Denver, CO
  21. Yes, nothing like graffiti to point out the misbehavior of "the uncouth others" Harris Denver, CO
  22. Yes, it's almost certainly your province. Presuming you haven't moved from one province to another since booking, you almost certainly have no worries. I can tell you're concerned, so it's probably worth calling your TA to put your mind at ease. It's fairly likely that all provinces of Canada were included, making it in effect a Canadian Discount. Over all my cruises I've probably booked on a restricted fare a dozen times, and have never been asked for proof of meeting the criteria. In your case, the proof would be your Driver's License, or other proof of residency, which you'd almost certainly have with you anyway. Harris Denver, CO
  23. If you have your Celebrity invoice (the one directly from Celebrity Cruises, not your TA invoice, it will show what fare you're booked under. It may not be abundantly clear, but we at the Cruise Critic Detective Agency could likely get it figured out for you. πŸ™‚ Harris Denver, CO
