  1. Every single cruise we have done with Viking has been great -- even the disasters, and we have had a couple, had some saving grace -- and each one for a different reason. At this stage in our lives, we are really quite happy to unpack once and have our hotel take us from place to place while we sleep and they do our laundry. Our very first Viking adventure was a river cruise in 2010 to China. It beat every single cruise we had done up to that point. Since then, we have done Dnieper River & Crimea, Lower Danube (Budapest to Bucharest), France's Finest, (B2B Rhone and Seine Rivers) and just this past January, we finally got to do the Nile --which I highly recommend if you have never been there before (this is one I could do again and maybe even again -- so much to see). Our introduction to Viking Ocean was "Into the Midnight Sun" in 2016, the first season they sailed it. Since then we have done 3 variations on Western Med cruises, the winter repositioning from Barcelona to London (Iberian Explorer) and two cruises under full Covid protocols (Iceland circumnavigation and the Mexican Riviera (did not like the itinerary but was so happy to be on the ship)). We have future bookings for British Isles Explorer and Far Eastern Horizons. And still more places on our to-do list that we want to see. Enjoy choosing your next cruises!
  2. If you aren't looking for expert guidance or the chance to taste before you buy, many supermarkets also carry wine. At least the problem can be remedied. Change the password.
  3. Icelandair flies from KEF to Bergen; i was booked in that flight in 2020 -- before it was cancelled. I can't remember if they offer Saga class on those flights.
  4. Regardless of price, I want my insurance provider to pay my claim in cash not vouchers for a future cruise that I might not be able to use.
  5. Advice on insurance. Buy from a third-party. Viking is cheaper but if you have to cancel, your refund will include vouchers PLUS you will have to pay the full amount at booking. Viking only covers the Viking portion of your trip and does not cover airfare you purchase for yourself. With a third-party, most will let you pay a minimum amount at booking (for the existing conditions coverage) and then pay the balance when you pay in full or have other out of pocket trip expenses.
  6. Doubtful. All flights from the US are to KEF.
  7. That is why I said 'usually' and why I said to ask Viking directly. There are exceptions to the norm and they are unpredictable.
  8. Wow! @Brewgator, love it. That is a great story for your travel memory book!
  9. There are usually no shuttles on the changeover day (but Athens may be an exception to the rule; email tellus@vikingcruises.com and ask). Once you are on board, Viking will give a list of optional tours that are available to continuing guests only. They will not be available to arriving or departing guests hence they are not available for booking until you board the ship.
  10. Regardless of your health, it is still up to you to make sure that what you post makes sense to readers. As was pointed out, you will get more answers that way. For now, members are taking a look at the preview, seeing that the post has too many errors and are moving on to the next inquiry. Please use spell check and ask someone to proofread and correct before you post and you will be more satisfied by the responses you get.
  11. Note, to do this, you must be landing at the airport on Day 1 of the cruise or pre-cruise package and/or taking off from the airport on the last day of the cruise or post-cruise package, as these are the only days that Viking operates transfers. If flights arrive or depart at any other time, you are ineligible for Viking transfers.
  12. It is a 2:30 hour charter bus ride from Ravenna to Venice -- that's five hours there and back. My gut says that the reason it says SOLD OUT is because it is not being offered at all. With that long a drive, I would not be surprised were there a complete change of tour offerings, taking advantage of what is closer to where the ship is docked (so that more time can be spent seeing the sights than riding on a bus). See https://www.rome2rio.com/s/Ravenna/Venice BTW, San Marino is as far from Ravenna as Chiaggio is from Venice, as Civitavecchia is from Rome, as Lugarno is from Florence. If your cruise has been effected, you will be notified by e-mail. So far this seems to be a one-off change. If it is a change to more than just a couple of sailings, it will take a while for the websites to catch up.
  13. In other words, the tourism industry infrastrcture is still rebounding from the Covid shutdown. Demand still exceeds supply and it will be a while until things are back in balance. If we want to travel, we have to understand that this is the new reality.
  14. Viking does not offer a visit to the Lipizzaner unless it is part of one of these tours: https://www.vikingcruises.com/oceans/cruise-destinations/eastern-mediterranean/empires-mediterranean/index.html#itineraryday/2 The in-port times for your sailing are included on your Viking invoice and they will eventually be posted on MVJ as well. For those reading this thread who don't already know, MVJ (MyVikingJourney) is the Viking guest interface. If you haven't already registered on MVJ, you will need your booking number to do so; it can be found on your Viking invoice.
  15. Sounds like someone was spoofing Viking. VO has never in its less than 10 years at sea required a sports coat for passengers let alone a suit.
  16. Thank you for the reminder that we should be packing our rain pants and waterproof shoes for our May, 2024 London to Bergen (and Oslo). You are so right, there is nothing worse than being cold and wet.
  17. Agreed. The lure of Iceland is its geography/geology and the Golden Circle tours bring you up-close-and-personal to geysers and hot springs, waterfalls and plate tectonics (which is just one of the reasons that Þingvellir is a must-see; the other is its role in the history of the early European settlers of the island). The North America plate is on your left and the European is on the right.
  18. Frisky, if this is your biggest problem this week, count yourself lucky.
  19. Welcome aboard! Excellent tip. The vendor keeps track of your daily tab, so that you will see only one charge per day on your card (can't remember if it was per person or grand total of the two of us). It keeps track of zones and the maximum daily charge per person. Super convenient. DH and I used cards with the same account number on them and there was no problem; we each tapped our own cards. I'm adding this to my list of helpful links and sharing it on our roll call.
  20. Viking Star December 12, 2023 Hawaiian Sojourn December 28, 2023, Hawaiian Islands Sojourn In general, historic weather can be found at timeanddate.com or you can use Google to find other sites that do "historic weather."
  21. I'll second checking out Snaefellenes. So beautiful.
  22. Absolutely agree. He is personable. His presentations, even his most complicated ones, are easy listens. He knows how to reduce a complicated topic to its most important points. His lectures are well-timed and never rushed. His visual aides are top-notch and used judiciously.
  23. Great topic for a new thread. You'll get more answers.
