  1. E, at this point you should be able to call Viking and get the upgrade removed and refunded without a hassle. Personally, I would book the air yourself. If you are flying Icelandair to get home, I highly recommend paying the extra for their business class. It is not flat beds but it is certain a whole heap more comfortable than their economy class and their premium economy.
  2. That is provided Viking is docking at Skolten, its usual pier. Occasionally, they do end up at other piers in Bergen, sometimes announced in advance and other times a last minute change.
  3. You can eat in the MDR every night. No reservations are necessary; guests are seated first come, first served. Reservations for the MDR was only a thing in the first months of the post-pandemic restart.
  4. No category gets any additional (or fewer) 'guaranteed priority reservations' based on the length of the cruise. The scheme is set in stone.
  5. There is some confusion here. There is no category called Veranda Suite. Cabin categories most expensive to least are: Owners' Suite (4) Explorer Suite (3) Penthouse Junior Suite (3) Penthouse Veranda Stateroom (2) Deluxe Veranda Stateroom (1) Veranda Stateroom (0) All suites are true suites with a separate bedroom. All accommodations have balconies. All categories except the lowest have advanced reservations for each specialty restaurant.
  6. If you have booked your own air and have disembarkation day flights, you can purchase transfers from Viking. There should be a link for it on MVJ or you can call Viking directly or your travel agent can handle it.
  7. If you are working with a travel agent, this option is not available. All payments must be made through your TA.
  8. P.S. forgot to say that 12 months, 6 months applies only to cruises or packages of less than 30 some odd days; the longer Grand Voyages and World Cruises may have different allowances (and I have never booked one, so I can't say what they might be).
  9. You can always try to negotiate a change in the final payment date but it must be done BEFORE you make the deposit. Paying the deposit is part of the legalese for showing your agreement to the contract and once you have given the deposit Viking will not negotiate further. The best you can hope for in these negotiations is 12 month prior to sailing unless you have a future cruise already booked, in which you can ask for 6 months final payment date. You have to ask for the 6 month date and you have to have future sailing already booked. Even if you have sailed multiple times with Viking, you must have a future cruise on the books to get the 6 month final payment date.
  10. Yes, you can use e-check to pay installments and for paying for optional shore excursions.
  11. I like aft above the dining room, except for the cabin closest to the elevator, which abuts a noisy equipment space and the public restrooms. There is no noise coming from the dining room below. I tried multiple DV4 locations on Deck 4 but decided to go back to DV6. DV4 can get unpredictable noise from the tenders. The downside to Deck 3 cabins is ramps up to the cabin area, which maybe an issue for those with mobility issues.
  12. That is why I bring suction hooks and metal skirt hangers -- which don't get in the way when I want to use the shower (because they aren't in the shower).
  13. Magnets don't work in the bathroom. I bring suction cups with hooks that work great on the mirrors and glass of the shower enclosure. Great for drying hand laundry and bathing suits.
  14. Here's why. "Cruise" and "air" are priced and sold separately. If we choose not to buy our air through Viking, that is our choice but that decision has no effect on the price of the cruise.
  15. No, honestly I can't believe that! You paid for a visa per instructions and now because of a last minute change Viking is just saying, "tough luck, buy another visa"? Before you go that route, I would do as Heidi13 suggested above and e-mail tellus@vikingcruises.com. The more people who complain about having to buy a second visa, the more apt they are to try to do something to ease the burden.
  16. In other words, the window is so generous that there is no 'normal' time-line.
  17. That said, please come back after your cruise and let us know how your tours with Tours by Locals went. Those of us going in the future would love to hear about it.
  18. Or do both -- something from the grill and something from the WC -- all consumed outside, weather permitting.
  19. The fewer cabins embarking the faster you will get your luggage -- and the faster you will be able to embark (which won't happen until the the traffic on the gangway (departing pax + shorex goers) clears around 10 am).
  20. YES! • Order from room service (24/7, no charge) • There are sandwich in the Living Room Bar from 11 am till dinner time (and always an assortment of cookies) -- and the same in Mamsen (Explorer's Lounge) but on a slightly different schedule. • Tea at 4pm in Wintergarden
  21. Hmm. Seems your keyboard had other ideas.
  22. We did this itinerary with Viking in 2021 -- also on July 3rd -- and loved it. Just reading this thread makes me want to do it again -- just to see what we missed in each of the ports. Don't miss the Skalanes Nature Reserve! Contact the folks at TellUs@vikingcruises.com. Explain what information you are trying to get and ask them to send you a copy of your Guest Statement (not everyone can access it via MVJ -- or at least I've never been able to). They can also confirm for you the earliest time you can book a departure from KEF. Personally, I suggest that you plan to arrive a few days ahead to explore the city (or recover from jetlag) and stay a few more to see some of the beautiful places that Viking does not include. I also suggest that you join the roll call for your sailing. It looks a little quiet now but it will pick up as departure day approaches. 23. This is one of those times that you should be going directly to the source for answers. Contact Viking before you book and ask questions. Forget the call center; instead e-mail tellus@vikingcruises.com. Tell them that you are seriously considering cruising with Viking but that you have some major dietary issues that you would like to discuss with them before you decide what to do. Ask them if someone could call you to discuss the specifics. When you do get them on the phone, tell them exactly what foods you do eat and ask if they can accommodate your diet. Ask them about dining in the specialty restaurants. Ask them whatever questions you feel you need to ask to ascertain if the Viking kitchens are able to meet your needs. From the FAQ: Can you accommodate my dietary requirements? In most cases, we can. Every meal has vegetarian options and the chefs will make reasonable efforts to accommodate special requests. Guests requiring special meals (low salt, diabetic, gluten-free or low cholesterol) should alert us 90 days prior to departure over the phone at 1-855-884-5464 (1-855-8-VIKING) or online on the Dietary Restrictions page in your My Viking Journey account. Guests should also inform the Maître d’ when on board. While we take steps to minimize the risk of cross contamination, we cannot guarantee an allergen-free kitchen.
  24. No, this is something new -- and it seems to be in just one laundry room on one ship, as reported so far. Original equipment on the ships was stacked washers and dryers. I would like to think that what we are seeing is just an experiment. If people on Deck 5 of Viking Star complain enough about the machines, maybe it will be the end of the trial.
