  1. First of all, bigger is not necessarily better. Are you there to see the Mediterranean or the inside of a greatly oversized ship. For some us including me, oversized is a bad feature and not a good one. Secondly the Mediterranean is a large place and you have not mentioned the itinerary. Pick the cruise that stops at the placed that you want to visit and forget about ship size. DON
  2. The problem w cruise ship lobster is that it is frozen, tasteless and awful. Barely worth eating at the old free price. Definitely not worth it for an up charge. Go to your local seafood restaurant that has live lobster in a tank and point to the one that you want. DON
  3. You think that flights to AK are high. Some of the flights within AK are ridiculous and always have been. For example, a 23 minute flight from Petersburg to Wrangell costs a minimum of $116 round trip. DON
  4. I should have added that when we took our granddaughter into Canada to start a cruise, they looked at out paperwork and asked her who the people who were taking her into Canada were? DON
  5. There are 360 hits for exactly what you want in your price range on Amazon. If you don't plan to buy Alaska made or Indigenous people made, there is no need to buy one in AK. DON
  6. We spent 3 days in Prince Rupert a few years ago. It is well worth visiting - very pretty, good museums, a very interesting cannery museum, indigenous peoples sites. You can get all the info that you need on the internet. DON
  7. I seriously doubt if the jets cleared the flyby with the bridge or the captain before they did it. DON
  8. I looked at what they are sticking you with on this cruise. I would definitely cancel. The new itinerary is awful. In fact considering what they are doing to you I would try to avoid Princess as much as possible in the future. DON
  9. Looks like they have some wonderful items in the store. I can't imagine how I missed the place on the several times that I have been to Juneau. DON
  10. I am not sure what you are asking. It sounds to me as if you want to volunteer to lead an excursion or do I have it wrong. If I am right in my assumption there is no way that your request will be granted. DON
  11. If you buy something in Alaska, you should buy something that was made in Alaska or even better made by a person who belongs to one of the indigenous tribes. There are official "made in Alaska" and also "made by indigenous peoples" logos that can only be put on these products. If the product is too cheap, it means that it was probably made in a factory overseas. Also you should buy it from a shop that is locally owned instead of one that is owned by a large out-of-state multi-port company. Also do not buy anything from a shop that is recommended by the cruise line as those shops are only recommended because they pay the cruise line to recommend them. Finally, if the shop has a whole bunch of identical items, you can be sure that it is made overseas in a factory somewhere. I buy local stuff on cruises and you can be sure that I always try to buy local. You do not say if you are going to be in anchorage for any period of time. If you are, I can recommend a couple of places to check out. DON
  12. I will add something to my own post. Consider how much work that the cabin attendants have to do on turnaround day. The probably have been assigned maybe 10 cabins or more and they have to clean up from the old occupants and prep the cabin for the new ones in maybe 2 or 3 hours. If they find an item in the cabin they have to do a whole bunch of paperwork and probably stop cleaning cabins and go and turn the item into lost and found. This messes up their whole system. Also lots of people leave stuff in the cabin that they don't want to take home assuming that the cabin attendant will toss it out for them. How is the cabin attendant supposed to differentiate the toss out items with the stuff that you forgot to take w you? As I mentioned previously I am sure that if the item appears to have value they bring it to lost and found. Old clothing - not likely. Also I agree w Lady Arwen. You should NEVER call another human being "worthless". You could have said that he or she did not do as good their job as well as you hoped but never "worthless". How would you like to be called "worthless"? DON
  13. The Edge holds 3000 passengers. The ACL ships hold maybe 200 - 300 passengers so economy of scale applies. You have to also consider what a better cruising experience is worth. In my opinion, almost any small ship will provide a significantly better experience than any of the oversized ships that they are building these days. I don't consider cruising on a floating amusement park to be a good cruising experience. DON
  14. Welcome to CC. Ultimately you are responsible for keeping track of your stuff. If you had left something that looked valuable behind, I am certain that the steward would have turned them into lost and found and you would have been reunited with them. But bathing suits??? People leave lots of stuff behind in their staterooms purposely because they just want to get rid of them and not take them home. You can't expect the steward who is very busy at turn around time to be responsible for every item that they find in the cabin. DON
  15. Consider the port times - only a few hours in Ketchikan; most of the day in Skagway except that ypu arrive late; the typical couple of hours in Victoria. Do I have the times right? DON
  16. Looks like you are on a 7 day cruise w only 2 ports. DON
  17. I am usually pretty good at finding stuff on the internet but I have been been unsuccessful in this search. We are going to be in Sitka for several days prior top the start of our cruise. We have been to AK several times and we almost always find a good bear tour to do. I know that there a good number of bears on Baranof Island and I was hoping to find a tour that would give me a good chance to see bears and hopefully brown bears in the wild. I am not interested in seeing bears at the Fortress of the Bears in Sitka. I have been to a number of enclosure type bear places in the US and AK. Although I may be wrong, Fortress sounds like a very depressing example of that genre. I would like to find a tour out of Sitka that gets me into the rest of Baranof Island where I might see bears. I can allot a full day for the tour if necessary. Am I missing something or does the tour that I am looking for not exist. I should add that we will be in Sitka in early July so if the salmon are not running in the streams at that time, such a tour might be a waste of my time and money. DON
  18. You can use Google Maps to determine the distances between places in Sitka. DON
  19. You should also have a notarized "authorization to treat" letter from the parents just in case they need medical care anywhere on the voyage. With regard to the notarized question, it can't hurt to have it notarized just in case. DON
  20. The lobster is frozen. All frozen lobster is always tasteless. All the lobster I have ever had on a cruise ship is tasteless. If you want good lobster, take a vacation in Maine. DON
  21. If you are new at your job, don't know what you are doing and lack confidence - that is exactly how I would expect him to behave. DON
  22. We are going by bus. Canada Place to SeaTac. When you consider the waiting time at the airport, it is almost as fast as by plane. Cost is $82. DON
  23. I don't know if you are a museum type of person but there is a wonderful museum in Anchorage. Also there is a great outside market that is open on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Personally I was disappointed w the Native Heritage Center but if you are interested in in, there used to be a shuttle that took you from downtown to the Heritage Center. I don't know if it is still running so you need to check this out. One other thing that most visitors to Anchorage are unaware of is that the Alaska Native Medical Center has wonderful exhibits of native artwork and also a great gift shop that sells art and handicrafts done by the native peoples. We have bought stuff at the gift shop. Their stock is not Chinese made junk but quality works with fair prices. You will need an Uber to get there and check on hours and gift shop opening times before you go there. The gift shop may be closed because of Covid. DON
