  1. My SIL had problems and called Silversea and they gave her a temp log in that worked explaining that there is some glitch with first time users and the system. As others have said it is a temperamental website at best. Good luck.
  2. How I got it is a long story. You won’t find it online. I have season football tickets and need to get focused on getting out the door. I will send it to you if you send me your email info. Rtravel at aol dot com I’m not a travel agent. Just an ADA traveler. Go Rams!!! Home And Commanders!!! (Childhood team)
  3. I have not stayed in this suite though I have it booked for our GV. I do have a floor plan. There is no tub and there is a shower. While I can’t guarantee it, I have never encountered a lower sink on a cruise ship. I’m a full time wheelchair user so I only sail in accessible cabins. Sounds like you are sailing before me else I’d happily snap photos for you. We depart January 4.
  4. @canderson shoreconcierge@silversea.com is the same address I use.
  5. They may not allow communication but I do it all the time. I send an email. Sometimes I cc my TA. She is a friend of mine and would gladly do everything but sometimes a middle person is unnecessary and just makes things take twice as long.

    Vaccines?

We are facing a similar situation with different countries. We are looking into a YF waiver. I am not sure at all how that works, however, I have read of them being available in Great Briton so hoping something similar in US. If you learn anything please share and I will do the same.

    Vaccines?

Which vaccines, if any do you usually get for your travels to SA. We are going to be circumnavigate the continent, calling in Ecuador, Peru, Chile, Argentina, Brazil and French Guiana plus go into the Amazon. We are too old for the yellow fever vaccine, considering the Typhoid. Do you bring just in case medicines and if so which ones? I realize you are not doctors (or maybe you are) just asking for your experience. Thanks
  9. In LA timing is everything. 30 minutes right now at 8:40 am from LAX to Long Beach.
  10. On another site a women onboard was able to ascertain that there is indeed a lift that the pool staff will set up with 15 minutes notice. So the answer to 1/2 is yes. thanks
  11. Nova - help please I have some questions if you’re onboard or were onboard 1) is there a pool lift/chair for a disabled person to use to get in the pool. It is usually a round tube anchored in concrete with a chair on it and a controller. 2) same question as above for the hot tub (s) 3) do the doors from the interior public spaces to the exterior spaces open automatically? If not is there a button to easily push to have them open? 4) are the public toilets/restrooms wheelchair accessible? Thank you for your help
  12. It’s been a Sunday. An earthquake, rain, and not as much wind as I expected. It is very wet out still. I live on the 17th floor of a high rise so wasn’t in a flood risk. Still a bit ominous outside. LAUSD canceled school today. all my plans are canceled. Looking forward to a day of cruise planning.😂😂 unless my friend needs me to watch her Pre-k daughter.
  13. Do you know if the port bus was wheelchair accessible? (With a ramp or lift)
  14. Sounds like they are ahead of the storm. Hopefully the storm anticipation is worse then the actual storm. It is pretty ominous out. We live part time in Los Angeles near the water.
  15. @Misty if your son lives in SM he will tell you count on everything involving a drive taking longer than anticipated. Don’t know when you mapped that but it will take a lot longer then 30 minutes most days. We are under a tropical storm watch and it’s Sunday morning here so traffic is at a low. The Getty is architecturally magnificent. Their collection is primarily classical but the outdoor space is worthy of a visit. LA has many amazing dining opportunities.
  16. Thanks, I have a black dress with several tops that I can bring. It travels well. I do travel with jewelry which I do not wear off the ship. I need to get some fun jewelry for in port that is clearly just fun, Working on my Carnival outfit, I am most concerned with getting bored with my clothes. Last time I traveled for 3 months, I took 2 jeans, 1 skirt, 4 tops, 1 sweater, a pair of sandals and a pair of sneakers. I was so sick of my skirt that I bought a $15 dress in Greece and threw my skirt out in the airplane trash, gave my jeans away along our travels. Of course I was 19 years old and carried everything in a backpack. Seriously, I could get away with very few clothes it is mostly the boredom factor and since I do not like to shop it is unlikely unless I am desperate that I will acquire much a long the way. I am still working my way through all the ports. So many decisions on what to do in each place, contacting tour guides, figuring out accessibility... it is fun but sometimes still overwhelming.
  17. We are on Silversea Nova. Nova is a new ship about to set sail in a week, large for Silversea with a max capacity of 728. We will be in the Amazon portion of the voyage Feb. 23 - March 3. Friday 2/23/2024 Amazon River Saturday 2/24/2024 Santarem, Brazil 8:00 AM 6:00 PM Sunday 2/25/2024 Boca Da Valeria, Brazil T 8:00 AM 6:00 PM Monday 2/26/2024 Manaus, Brazil 1:00 PM Tuesday 2/27/2024 Manaus, Brazil 6:00 PM Wed 2/28/2024 Parintins, Brazil T 12:00 PM 7:00 PM Thursday 2/29/2024 Santarem, Brazil 8:00 AM 4:00 PM Friday 3/1/2024 Amazon River Saturday 3/2/2024 At sea Sunday 3/3/2024 Ile Royale, French Guiana T 8:00 AM 5:30 PM Boca Da Valeria is a maybe for getting of the ship, they may or may not allow tendering depending on the weather etc. My understanding if we can not go ashore, people from the area will board the ship with their wears and some type of interaction. Parintins we are doing a pedi- bike tour of the city (the ship arranged for an accessible pedi-bike for me - no idea what that is but I could not pass up finding out) and the Boi Bumba show Santarem we will probably do the boat tour the first day. The second day I am unsure if my husband and his sister will do the ship tour hike (excursions are included on SS but many are not wheelchair accessible and or they are boring). I may just stay on the ship (I am a paraplegic though quiet active). Or we may do a private tour with hike, where there is a place for me to hang out while they hike. We have not decided whether to use Gil for the boat tour or a fellow on Tours by Locals. Manaus we will do the boat tour on the second day. I do not know what time the concert is and I am hesitant to do more then that the first day due to the heat. From what I can see the Teatro Amazonas performances start around 9 pm. Her is the description of the event: Enjoy stepping back into Brazil’s belle-époque history for a performance in the city’s legendary theatre by the Amazonas Symphony and Choir. First-class canapés, cocktails and champagne will be included. French Guiana it is a self guided walking/rolling tour of the former penal colony much as you described. Thank you for the Youtube recommendation. We will watch we love good travel videos. I just never think to look for them, old school books and google. Maybe I should talk to chatgpt too:-/. I am going to reread your review, it was so good and I was a bit tired when I first read it. Do you have any clothes recommendations for that leg of our journey. We will not be vaccinated for yellow fever as we are over 60 and never needed it before. Did you have any other specific vaccines? or any other tips? Thanks for answering all my questions, it is fun to chat with someone who has done a similar trip. Best, jean
  18. Fantastic Review, so very helpful. I would like to ask some advice about our excursions in the Amazon. We are on a SA Grand Voyage. We are in Santarem twice, and Manaus overnight. On the first night in Manaus we have concert tickets and a GV event afterwards. I am trying to decide if these boat trips are redundant or we should do both. From your experience what do you think? Santarem we can do a Maica Lake boat tour Private We'll start by seeing the meeting of waters and understanding why the waters do not mix it.-We'll see some parts of Santarém and learn of its history.-Around 45 mins later, we'll reach the entrance of Maica, so keep an eye on the water because you might spot dolphins!-We'll enter Maica and start spotting a variety of birds.-Once there, we'll get a speedboat and will be able to enter even deeper into Maica where a normal boat cannot go, to spot the animals even closer and to try to find the prehistoric animal Hoatzin!-After this speedboat tour, we will get back to our original boat and have an Amazonian lunch prepared by our local chef, accompanied by an amazing view of the jungle and the river.-After lunch we'll go back to Santarem. Manaus we can also do a boat tour The Meeting of the watersVisit the floating houses communitiesPirarucu " Arapaima" FishingWater liliesPiranhas FishingCanoeing though the narrow water ways (when the water is high only!)Lunch on floating restaurantSwimming with dolphinsVisit the indigenous community Thank you for your help. 19. Thank you for sharing the information, it is very helpful in our planning. DH is still planning to bring a couple of suits however, he is happy not have to wear a tie unless he wants to. I hope we see some stylish outfits now that the classic restrictions are lifted. Seen some amazing dress outfits on men and women in LA lately. I for one love the evolution of attire over time.
  20. Hi everyone, I'm so excited about our upcoming cruise, it is killing me waiting until January. jean
  21. I am a full time wheelchair user. If you can hop over a lip into the shower you should be ok in a standard silver suite. You can request a chair for the shower so you can sit instead of stand on one foot. Can you use crotches for hobbling around in the bathroom and stateroom and the knee scooter for the ship and tours? Also consult your orthopedist about options and or a PT.
  22. Oh my. Most baked Alaska is not very good, either overly sweet or bland. However, the baked Alaska in Queen’s Grill on the QM2 is a wonderful treat.
  23. @LAL Cruiser @Mr Luxury If either or both of you would be kind enough to ask your TAs to take some photos or video of a wheelchair accessible cabin, especially the bathroom and post them, I would really appreciate it. We are not on until January but I am so curious to see the accessibility before our 71 day cruise. Thanks so much
  24. The cruise lines so far have decided TAs are worthwhile. How long it will last no one knows. When the cruise lines are done with them, they will do what the airlines did and simply stop paying commissions. Then the TAs will have to decide if they want to charge customers a fee or fold up shop. The consumer then will have to make a choice. Currently, corporate travel agents are paid either salaries or fees where a few decades ago they relied on commissions. Things are always changing.
