  1. Good afternoon friends! I've had a busy day - had to hand in retirement paperwork for a co-worker (she's under the weather), so I had to go back to work (20 miles each way)...but the paperwork is in, so that's a good thing! We were in Reykjavik last August. We did a smaller Golden Circle tour (geysirs, rift and Gullfoss waterfall). Most of the pictures already posted were excellent, but I want to share mine of Gullfoss...it was amazing that day! Prayers for all in need (especially @marshhawkAnnie and Chuck on this difficult day. Cheers for all with good things in their lives and heading to or on cruises! Laura
  2. We were in Djupivogur in August on the Nieuw Statendam cruise. It was our 4th Iceland port in a row, with Reykjavik the next day. We didn't have any plans, so we just wandered around the town (VERY small!), and then had a local beer before heading back. Prayers for all, whether you think you need them or not! Cheers for everyone lucky enough to be cruising....three weeks from tomorrow we head out to our Princess cruise - Australia, New Zealand, American Samoa, Tahiti, Honolulu, Maui and ending in San Francisco!!! Take care, Laura
  3. Good morning! Even though I don't post frequently, this is the first place I go to in the morning, again in the afternoon, and once more before bed. Everyone here is so friendly and welcoming! For Whale Day, I have my favorite whale picture - we were on a whale watch in Juneau on our 14 day Amsterdam cruise. We've done other whale watching trips, but this time we saw LOTS of whales! When they came up for bubble feeding, the crew on the boat were all so excited, it was the first time that year that they had seen it. Prayers for everyone on our Care list....and I'll raise a glass of wine today for our Celebration list! Have a wonderful day, Laura
  4. Debbie, When you have the room all together, a photo would be appreciated!! Then we can all applaud your beautiful work! Laura
  5. @rafinmdRoy, thanks for checking in....so sorry to hear of your medical issues, but glad there's nothing broken! Try to rest well in the hospital (definitely not easy to do!), so you can head home soon. @StLouisCruisersthanks for filling in for the Daily today, and it will be great if you can do it tomorrow also! What a wonderful bunch of friends we have here!! Laura
  6. Roy, hoping it's only a cold and you'll be feeling better quickly. Please take care of yourself - rest and liquids will help. We'll see you back here when you're better!! Laura
  7. Good morning! I have a story about squirrels. When I was growing up, we had 9 oak and hickory trees on our 40 x 100' property (LOTS of leaves, and LOTS of squirrels). We had a problem with the "flying rats" in our garage, so my father tried putting moth balls in the garage - supposedly squirrels hate that smell. The next time he went into the garage, the squirrels were throwing the moth balls at him!! After that, we decided to coexist with them, as long as they stayed out of our house. Prayers for our friends needing them (especially Kathy, Jacqui, and Tana). I'll have a glass of wine this afternoon to celebrate with our friends already on cruises, or leaving soon for cruises, or anyone having a good day! Take care, Laura
  8. Good morning everyone! In honor of Winnie-the-Pooh day (my absolute favorite book as a child, my father would read it to me every night...wonderful memories!)
  9. @grapau27Graham, I'll add my prayers for your Sarah, to get a good report from her tests and relief from her pain. Laura
  10. Jacqui, so glad to hear the surgery went well, and that you're on the way home. Praying for an easy healing. I'm sure Jose is with you every day, and has been watching over you through this entire ordeal. Take care of yourself, Laura
  11. Oh Jacqui, so very sorry to hear of your medical woes. You're in my prayers for healing, and being able to get back home quickly and safely. Laura
  12. Happy New Year's Eve to all my Daily family! I can't believe how fortunate I am to have found this....I really feel like you all are part of my family, and would love to have a family reunion sometime! Thanks to all who post pictures of beautiful places I haven't been to (and a few that I have), thanks to the food and beverage department for their contributions, and a special thanks to Rich and Roy for keeping us all together for these past years. It's been a quiet day here....I woke up early (a little earlier than usual, at 5:30), so managed to take a nap in the comfy chair in the den this afternoon. Tonight DH and I will be going to the VFW post for a small New Year's gathering - probably about 8 couples, with appetizers etc. Usually as soon as the ball drops, we all pack up and are gone by about 12:15!! Hoping 2023 will bring goodness to all! Take care, Laura
  13. Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah to all celebrating! I had an unusual surprise this morning. After DH and 2 DSs and I opened presents, I got ready to go to church. When I arrived, the temperature in the sanctuary was 37 degrees!! We were chilly last night for our Christmas Eve service, but we usually have the thermostat set at 50 when no one is using the sanctuary, so that wasn't unexpected. We had a cold church last Sunday also, and the oil company sent the repairman, who got it working but said we needed a part to be ordered. This morning, I called the oil company...with the extreme cold temperatures (yesterday didn't get out of the teens!), they said they wouldn't be able to get to us today at all. We have a small chapel in the church, and with our very small congregation we had our service there today (and it was wonderful!). The repairman came right after the service, and stayed working on things for almost 2 hours. We finally have heat today, and are just waiting for the part that was ordered to arrive - hoping that will keep the heat on!! So Graham @grapau27, Father David's sermon today really hit home for me! I so appreciate you posting the sermon every week - his message is always one I can relate to. We're having our traditional lasagna tonight - it was put together yesterday, so just has to be put in the oven. I made spritz cookies with the new cookie press I got for Christmas, so dessert is all set. Praying for everyone, whatever their needs are. Love my Daily family! Take care, Laura
  14. Merry Christmas Eve to all (and Happy Hanukkah to those celebrating too!) We have a quiet Christmas this year - just DH and both DSs, no extended family. Younger DS has to work today (retail never takes a break!), but will be home for our traditional Christmas Eve dinner of filet mignons from the grill. I'll be putting together our Christmas dinner today (lasagna), and will probably have to make one more shopping run before that. It's currently 10F here in NY, going up to a high of 17!! Hoping everyone has a safe and wonderful time. Praying for all on the Care list, that they may be well and move to the Celebration list. Special birthday wishes to @grapau27's niece Sarah! Love to you all... Laura
  15. Thanks Rich for doing your thread. I don't think I'll ever be able to do a world cruise, so traveling through you is great! Have a wonderful time!!! Laura
  16. @kazuJacqui, bon voyage on what sounds like a wonderful cruise! I'll be following along, and look forward to your insights on the ship and ports. Have a fantastic time!! Laura
  17. Good morning! A quick check in before DH and I meet with our financial advisor - now that I'm retired I think we need some guidance! We were in Red Bay this past August on our Canada-Greenland-Iceland cruise. It wasn't too buggy that day, but the FOG was crazy! We were told the name came from the red rocks along the shore. After we tendered to shore, the fog started rolling in, and in about a half an hour we couldn't see the ship from the harbor. DH was experiencing "technical difficulties," so he stayed on the ship, and I got off with our friends we were cruising with, and walked around the town. Very cute, VERY small town! Hoping for good news for all with challenges, celebrating with our cheer list, and wish I was on a BHB with those cruising! Have a great day, Laura
  18. Sorry, I had lots going on today so didn't get to reply. I definitely admit I'm addicted to the Daily. I check it when it get up, then again around lunchtime, and later in the afternoon (like now), and then once more before dinner. And in the morning I'll see if anything was posted to the day before!! Laura
  19. Good (rainy) morning everyone! We've been to Reykjavik this past August, but didn't have time to go into the city itself. We saw a lot of the same things @StLouisCruisersposted - the lava, the geysers, and Gullfoss waterfall....but I've attached a photo of our visit there. The rainbow was beautiful! (wish I could figure out why it's upside down!!!) Prayers for our friends who are in need, especially @JazzyVand her BFF for the funeral today. Cheers to everyone on a cruise or celebrating now. Enjoy your weekend! Laura
  20. Good evening! @JazzyVVanessa, I'm so sorry to hear of BFF's DF passing. I know it was a comfort that you both came back and could spend time with him. You, your BFF and family will be in my prayers. Laura
  21. Well, I really feel like part of the Daily family now!! My dishwasher gave up the ghost yesterday. I put a load of dishes in around lunchtime, and noticed a rotten, almost burning, smell a while later. When I opened it to take out the clean dishes it really smelled bad! Since we're a family of 4 adults, and I haven't lived without a dishwasher in my life, my DS went online and ordered one from Best Buy before dinner! It is scheduled to be delivered and installed on Friday. Hoping that they keep to their schedule! Thanks for the wonderful updates...I come here first thing in the morning, then around lunchtime, and again in the afternoon, and then one more time before bed! I would love to cruise with all of you on a BHB in the future!! Take care, Laura
  22. Happy Thanksgiving to our US Dailyites...and Happy Thursday to everyone! We'll be leaving in a bit to head to CT to our niece's home - they have hosted the family Thanksgiving dinner for many years. It's so nice to be able to get together with family, especially after the last couple of years. Turkey is not my favorite dinner - I will have some, but there will also be ham and all the normal sides. And LOTS of desserts!! Happy 60th anniversary to @Vict0riannAnn and Pat!! Happy angel birthday to @kazu's Jose. Prayers for our long Care list. I'll lift a glass (maybe a beer!) to all on our Celebration list. Hoping everyone has a wonderful day today! Laura
