  1. I agree it's not for everyone. The details you provide are helpful so that people can make informed decisions.
  2. Thanks for the analysis of adding the pre/post stays. It is very helpful. Galapagos has always been way down on my list of places to visit (just bc the world is huge and wonderful); reading about your experiences has definitely moved Galapagos closer to the top of the "must visit" list. You've put a lot of work into this -- it is much appreciated. Looking forward to your next cruise 😀
  3. Esther and Johan are a fabulous team and wonderful people. Maybe I'll get lucky and they will still be aboard when I sail the Dawn in March. 🤞
  4. David -- I really enjoyed your pictures; your ability to capture wildlife just doing there thing is awesome. It almost inspires me to travel with proper cameras. 😜 Thanks for all your information about cameras. If/when you have a chance I'd love to get your thoughts on the GoPro camera. I rely on my iPhone and am generally happy with the results; however, I am considering buying a GoPro for a likely Antarctica trip so would love to get any reviews. @prmssk I'd love to get your opinions as well.
  5. @mahdnc Very sorry to learn about your mother-in-law's passing. So very glad you and your wife were back in the states before it happened.
  6. I've only just found this thread; I have to say your first photos are already stunningly beautiful. I look forward to seeing more and reading about your trip. Thanks for sharing!
  7. There is something with CC where photos show upside down -- I think it has something to do with the direction the camera is held when taking horizontal photos with iPhones. (I'm sure someone else can give a more technical explanation.) I have had this happen to me as well. The other day when I "rotated" your photo, I downloaded it, rotated it -- saving the new file, and then posted the new version to CC. I am not sure how you would do this posting directly.
  8. My husband and I figured that out after our first year of marriage -- no gifts to each other. Our Anniversary and birthdays were close together so we would usually take a trip. It worked well for us. I have 15 nieces and nephews (😲) -- as each hit 13 I shifted from gifts to cash and they seemed to appreciate it.
  9. I haven't had many of the Dow's (I just love Graham's tawny ports) but that bottle should be lovely! Based on a quick search the price seems to be a good one. Color me jealous and pouring a glass of my favorite to make up for it.
  10. Thanks for this. I, too, just want something to point and shoot. Can't wait to learn about your day in Port Douglas. 😀
  11. When you have time I'd love to know why you didn't like the GoPro. I am considering buying one for a likely Antarctic trip, but I am pretty sure I'd only use it in that situation. I find my cell phone pictures to be enough. Thanks. And I have to say the scallops looked amazing! Glad the lobster was good, too.
  12. Just an FYI -- bc you mentioned it I checked and it seems Scenic has a CC forum now. Until recently I thought they only did river cruises so hearing from someone who sailed an ocean voyage with them would be great. I learned a lot from Jim's Ponant blog.
  13. @Redking I hope you will do a blog of your Scenic cruise; I enjoyed your last one. Scenic has been off my radar, but I'd love to know more about that line.
  14. The corn salad looks tasty 😋 -- and I don't even like corn!
  15. Looks like a tasty lunch. I am impressed by the extensive wine list too.
  16. I wouldn't have thought of it, but for the article I read; and then it made perfect sense.
  17. In summer of 2022 when lost luggage was a huge problem I read an article (can't remember where) that recommended taking photos so that the luggage could be more easily identified. You know what the cases look like, airline personal don't so it's easier to have the photo for them. I've been taking photos ever since.
  18. Lovely photos, especially of the horses. Thanks for sharing your trip with us.
  19. @Norwaylady I feel the need to add my thanks for sharing your cruise experience with all of us. It's been a great read, lovely photos and you've set us up to switch over to Jim's like blog. I am glad you made it home safely. Enjoy the cat blanket 😜
  20. I usually do the same, but when I am traveling I let the calls come in just in case I need a call from the ship or a tour guide, etc. I do, however, make sure the Do No Disturb is set for overnight hours so my sleep is not interrupted.
  21. Yikes! That limited menu is definitely disappointing. It seems like the change was made on several ships; I hope this is temporary.
  22. Since you have the business class upgrade already the domestic legs of your trip will put you in first class (unless you SS puts you on an airline that doesn't have it, but that is very rare). Do keep checking your Silversea account, so you can see when flights have been selected and contact your SS rep to request changes as needed. I, too, like to avoid short connections.
