  1. NJH, it’s been so long that I don’t even know how to quote and reply on my phone and not sure if this correct.

Sept./Oct. is my favorite time to go but I’m limited this year. Taking our granddaughter on her first cruise and it needed to be after she was finished with school but before she started a summer job. She is about the same age as I was when I went to Bermuda for the first time. Celebrity worked and I’m happy to be back on my favorite line.

I was on the Escape 1/18, nice ship even though huge ships are not my favorite. Went in RCCL Harmony of the Seas 1/19, again, nice ship but too big for me. Celebrity Summit is a bit more manageable, it’s just gone thru a total refurbishment and we have an Aqua Class cabin.

Wow...haven't seen you here in ages! Hope you're doing well. We still cruise to Bermuda every year. This year we're on the Norwegian Escape, arriving in Bermuda on October 9.

Glad to hear you're coming back to Bermuda this year.

Funny...I just took a look this morning at the picture of St. George's that you gave to everyone attending the Meet and Greet you organized on the Norwegian Majesty way back in 2009 (yikes I'm getting old)! You must have sensed it somehow...so you posted here as a result.

  3. Yikes, njhorseman! It’s been a few years since I’ve been to Bermuda but knew the bus and ferry routes by heart. So much has changed that I need to do some serious studying for my cruise in May.😱

The last time I was in Bermuda I was able to purchase the transportation 2- or 3-Day ticket onboard, that was with MSC.  I am going on the Escape in May...anyone who traveled on the Escape to Bermuda, can you tell me if they sell the tickets onboard??  Thanks!!

  5. Avg. temps for Nov. range from a low of 67F to a high of 76F and water is around 74F. Water visibility is good for scuba or snorkeling but a wet suit is probably needed. Any self-respecting Bermidian won’t set foot in the water until May 24 but then they are used to warm water.

If you are game and the water temp doesn’t scare you off, there’s no reason to book a snorkeling excursion. One of the best places is Tobacco Bay where you can stay in a sheltered area or go out in the open ocean. I’ve never been disappointed there. Church Bay is also good but it tends to be a bit rough there.

As far as something else to do, we thought Fort Hamilton was pretty cool.

  6. I will come back and report/review the experience. I will be back on August 30th so if you have any other questions I can answer I will be happy to.

I did it a few years ago and went through BUEI and it was very reasonable. However, we were docked in Hamilton and were able to walk there.

We had a great time because the captain of our boat had “connections” to hang out in a private place on the water. I know some of the places like Watford Bridge get quite crowded.

The captain also gave us a running commentary on the way to and from our viewing place.

I tried taking pictures of the glow worms but without fancy equipment they are impossible to photograph.

  7. Beautiful dress/gown and the shoes are lovely, this is only my opinion, you'd not be able to see the beauty of that particular shoe with a long dress. You asked, hope this helps.

Excellent point. Thank you and I am taking that into consideration. I guess they could be a little surprise peeking out every now and then while walking, but that would not help me to enjoy them since I would not be able to see them. I need long gowns because my ankles tend to swell in tropical climates so they help hide the cankles. I guess I am a sucker for a pretty shoe, but I do need to face the reality that they often don't look that pretty on me once the swelling kicks in. I'm so torn.... ;)

Those are beautiful shoes but I would prefer the bling on the front of the shoes and then you could see it. There's a pair of Badgley Mischka and a pair of Nina that have the bling on the front of the shoes on that site. Don't know how to link like you did.:o

  8. Friend is going to a wedding in Vail, Colo. and invitation says, "mountain formal". Where do people come up with this stuff? Anyway, she is a bit confused, well, a lot confused, as to what mountain formal means. I'm assuming the wedding is outdoor.

Anyone want to weigh in on this with suggestions?

  9. Ok ladies! If you read the " Post a picture of your dress and gown" thread then you already know about my new gowns.

I ordered a size 6 and size 8 of this gown. Size 6 is still a bit big for me from the chest down. My tailor can take care of it.

Now, I can return size 8. But I'm not going to. I'm going to donate it here. If you already received a dress or gown from me, please do not email me. This gown is for a lady who has never received anything from me.

    Tadashi Shoji?

Friend of mine wore this for her daughter's wedding.

  10. I will try it and let everyone know. Won't need to worry about the puppies, will be very open about it when I go aboard ship. Will also discuss with Chef before.

Now the large problem: Finding the darned things!

Chengkp75 gave the definitive answer. Trust him, he knows what he is talking about and is one of the most knowledgeable posters on CC. He knows ships inside and out as well as maritime regs since he is a chief engineer having worked on ships and is working as we speak.

  11. I do get there early to snag an end seat as I am short and very claustrophobic. I do not feel put out when others enter the row, and do stand to make it easier.

To be clear, do you think it is reasonable to expect us "Jerks" to move towards the center to accommodate you and your family?

The poster said nothing about anyone moving toward the center. I saw jerks meaning those that acted annoyed that anyone should want to move past them.

Nothing dictates that a person is required to leave their seat and go into the aisle so you can get by. There is plenty of leg room in Celebrity's theaters to just shift your legs for others to get past.

Neither did they say anything about going into the aisle. There isn't always leg room if the person seated or the person coming in is a large person.

  12. We noticed that the OP did not mention any of the "Production Shows" which have generally left us less than happy (when we bother to attend). Our experience the past 3-5 years has been the "Guest Entertainers" on Celebrity are really improved.....over years ago.

As to the MDR, one person's slow service is another persons "dining." MDRs on all the mass market lines have cut-back on staffing over the past few years, and things have slowed. To us, this is actually a plus since we are seldom in a hurry and enjoy socializing at large tables. We have had some fast waiters and some very slow waiters, which is just the way it is these days. Years ago when there was only Fixed Dining (you always had the same table and waiters) and passengers directly tipped wait staff......service was usually quite good, But now, in the era of auto-tips and tip pooling there is less incentive for wait staff to hustle.

    Hank

I agree with this, however, the staff may feel there's always a chance a pax may give them extra if they give really good service.

  13. My neighbor in NJ is a Bayonne Fireman. He states when the ships come in it is rare when they are not sent there for one reason or another.

A little off topic but it is rare that the ship does the Bermuda run without having at least one fatality from the scooters in Bermuda.

I must respectfully disagree. If you look at this chart, these are deaths for ALL traffic accidents, not just scooters. Even further, it doesn't specify local or tourist so that brings down the number even more for tourists that could be either fly ins or cruisers. So it's not possible to have at least one fatality on a sailing. A number of years ago, Bermuda was averaging one scooter death per month but that was locals.

    http://bernews.com/2015/01/586-road-deaths-since-1962/

Back on topic.:) Gentleman at our table that always knew more or a better way for any and everything. His nose was bent out of shape when one night the table next to us was getting served first. It was pretty evident that those sitting at the table were some sort of VIPs judging by the number of officers that stopped to chat. His wife was always 2...ummm make that 3, sheets to the wind. She probably drank to put up with him.

Three elderly, two female and one male seemed to be sailing together, maybe it was a Ménage à Trois.:D They were always arguing and complaining. One day one of women cornered an officer and ranting about how it was the worst cruise she had ever been on, blah, blah, blah. Another time they were the first off the elevator and proceeded to argue in front of the elevator so no one else could get off and no one could get on. Then one "lady" gave the man a good whack with her cane.

Full elevator stops and usually one more person could squeeze in but not two "fluffy" ladies. Somehow they managed to get in but instead of the doors closing... ding, ding, ding, light flashing, overload, overload. People were saying they need to get off but they refused until they realized the elevator was not going anywhere.

Probably the worst collective complaint I encountered was shortly after 911. Cruise was supposed to leave out of Manhattan but, of course couldn't, so we had to leave out of Baltimore. Enough people complained about the inconvenience so Celebrity gave us all a 25% discount on a future cruise. We had no idea we were getting the discount and when we found out, didn't understand why, it was like blood money.:(

  14. We did the January 14th Reflection cruise--7 day. Much younger cruisers on this one (but not a booze cruise type). In fact, many of them enjoyed dressing up for the evenings. :D

I was on the same cruise and was thinking that I didn't notice people being older like so many post about X. I guess I'm not very observant because I never noticed an older demographic on any of the Celebrity cruises I've been on.:o I always thought there was a nice mix.

Lois, I thoroughly enjoyed the cruise and I would book Aqua Class again. The only thing I didn't like was "Broken Strings" and didn't really care for the other production show either. I liked the food in Blu very much with exception of the blue crab soup. In all my cruises, it was the only thing I ever thought was terrible and couldn't eat. My friend felt the same way.

  15. Hi. I'm going on a Silversea cruise but I don't know how to put my question in that forum. JojoJane

It's no different than the way you posted here, Just go to the Silverses board and at the top left is, New Thread, click on that, ask your question, them hit, post.:)

  16. Oh GEEZE, I feel like I wasted a whole cruise after reading everything that you did.:o You two certainly seemed to get the absolute most out of the cruise. Have enjoyed reading your review and relived my week on the Reflection.

I had not been on Celebrity for a number of years and found it to be everything I remember about X . I was in an Aqua Class cabin so really enjoyed Blu and the Persian Garden. I was on the cabin crawl but several others and I had to wait for an elevator so lost the head start group. You didn't wait for us...bwah, wah, wah. Missed seeing the Sky Suite and that was the only cabin I wanted to see.

XZ's gown were fab and don't know which was my favorite but always hoped I would see what she was wearing each night. You were quite the dapper, and sometimes, mysterious dresser.

Someone, earlier had asked if there was a night light in the bathroom. The first time there was a low light in the bathroom, I thought it went on automatically in the evening.:D A couple of days later, I realized all you had to do was press the light pad one way or the other for full light or dim. So, yes, there is a night light. Cabin steward must have turned it on the first night.

I ran into some of the Norwegians, an older couple that hung out in deck chairs on deck 4. They said they were with a group of 26 so wonder if the ones you hung out with were part of that group. The couple didn't speak a whole lot of English but what I gathered was, they didn't do much and may not even have gotten off the ship. We Americans are so spoiled in that many of us don't speak another language but so many Europeans speak English even if it's not fluent.

  17. I second the Best Western in Elkridge. There's a restaurant next door with decent food and if you are looking for something to do in the evening, the shuttle will take you to a mall. I needed to go to a drug store and the driver even went in with me. He had worked there and knew exactly where I could find the item I wanted. He even got the pharmacist to wait on me right away.

Type of music is personal but another driver plays classical music to and from the port.:)
