  1. Actually, regarding your last paragraph, not that I personally require a visit, but the head waiter can easily make it to every table since there are several head waiters in every dining room. Each head waiter has a finite number of tables for which he/she is responsible. There is one maitre'D who is in charge of the head waiters and the rest of the dining staff. :)

Didn't say it was impossible just unreasonable considering the other things that require their attention. BTW, did have a head waiter who stopped by our table every night.:)

  2. Typically, if we NEVER see the head waiter....there is no tip. Just saying! One cruise, they were there almost every night... and made sure all of our requests and wants were fulfilled, so we tipped quite well....on one cruise, we didn't see them until the last night...and he didn't even stop to say hello, or thank you or Anything.....no tip for him.

Tips should be based on the service you get. We had a cabin attendant we NEVER saw...still don't know if it was a male or female...but our cabin was immaculate the entire trip.....we left extra tip for that one!

One cruise, our waiter sucked..but the assistant waiter made up for it...HE got the additional tip..not the waiter....

Base your tips on your experience.

Well, I'm just saying that you are sooooo wrong. You never saw your steward but the cabin was immaculate so he did his job. The same can be said about the head waiter. You don't HAVE to see him yet he is doing his job by overseeing the wait staff and making sure things run smoothly.

Of course, once again, you will never read this post or any of the others explaining the job of the head waiter. :(

As far as people saying they never see the head waiter, do they really expect him/her to make it to every table? That is unreasonable and they would never be able to do their job. The job is not just to socialize.

  3. ¿Habla inglés?

    Very well, thank you.

Are the guitars Gibson Hummingbirds worth $3000 each?

I was stopped from disembarking in St. Thomas, a tax-free island, trying to land six bottles of duty-free wine @ $9 a bottle, purchased the day before from another duty-free island, St. Maarten.

The wine never made it ashore, and I think a crew member guzzled it. The line reimbursed me anyway.

So, as I intimated, if you give any "official" the slightest bit of power over you they are prone to abuse it.

So, best to make a formal import declaration, or at least check with the front desk on the subject.

This is not my first rodeo!

Sent from my iPad using Forums

Maybe not your first rodeo but this post doesn't make anymore sense than your first one.

  4. It would be/would've been interesting to know which cruise line(s) the pro and con door-decorating folks prefer. I'm guessing it very much depends on the predominant passenger base characteristics per each line.

Based on pictures I've seen, if you Google decorated cabin doors, I'd say one particular line is VERY pro.;)

Does anyone else have a list of people from this forum that they hope to never meet on a cruise? First cruise coming up but we will take a pass on the Cruise Critic Meet and Greet. There appear to be some very strong opinions about some seemingly innocent practises.

As I read this thread I keep singing, "You're as cuddly as a cactus, You're as charming as an eel, You're a bad banana with a greasy black peel."

I had three and I managed to hit the trifecta on ONE cruise, couldn't believe I was so "lucky".:D

  5. You really need to understand cb's posting history before you start defending them. cb has given a lot of bad and wrong information over their time on here. As I said previously, no one knows for sure if cb has ever cruised since no one has met them. I've met several cc members over the years as have a lot of us, especially those that post a lot. The consensus is that cb posts only to get their post count up and never comes back to defend any posts made. It's a lot of hit and run.

    Yep, seagull poster.:D

I also use "them" and "they" because no one knows for sure if cb is a she.

Based on postings on the Fashion Board, I would say female but one never knows.;):)

  6. Another suggestion. Make some decks door decorating free and others door decorating permissible. Like what used to be with smoking.

Would never work for a number of reason. And what do you mean by what used to be with smoking?

There are lots of ways to address this issue!

Unless the cruise lines ban the practice, there is only one way to "deal with the issue". I'm a non-decorater but everyone would do well to just live and let live.

  7. We lived in one such community where they gave summons for violations. Got a ticket, yes a ticket, for planting flowers not on the approved list. Every home has a water spigot in the garage for washing your car. Not allowed to wash cars in the driveway.

We moved within a year of buying and got the last laugh. There was a major error in one of the accruals. Maintenance fees jumped by $125 a month.

How does one wash their car in the garage?:D

Don't know how I forgot these people. Everyone in the neighborhood knows who they are. Long ago, I had one deliver an open bag of dog poo to my front porch with a note attached, accusing my dog of leaving it near her house. My dog was a Min Pin, about ten pounds. What was in the bag could have come from a St. Bernard!!!

Friend had someone show up at their door accusing his dog of pooping in his yard. My friend told him he wanted a DNA test as proof.:p

  8. If what you're used to is Broadway or even top tour cities like SF, shipboard "wannabe" productions often fall far short of the mark.

I've seen my share of Broadway Shows since I'm a short train ride away from NYC and don't bother with tour cities, even though Wash. and Phila. aren't far either. I find nothing wrong with Broadway type shows on ships, I enjoy them for what they are.

  9. In my experience there has been an attendant in the CC to assist with cigar selection and accompanying drinks. Might be a volunteer position but it is well ventilated so it is not heavy with smoke. Unfortunately cigarette smokers have also found the CC and there have been times when they are present as well - which IMO is not what the venue was intended for. The two aromas are not compatible - again IMO. (I am not a cigarette smoker and dislike them).

Then why don't they have a dedicated indoor space for the cigarette smokers. Maybe they wouldn't congregate in the casino if they had a place.

  10. Lucky you getting to spend 4 days there. We did that on our honeymoon cruise in 1992. What ship are you on? I would love to go back for more than 1 day on a cruise.

I've looked into this cruise and four days would be heaven but, it's not really four days. Ship docks in Hamilton on Sun. at 8AM. It then leaves at 6AM on Mon. to move over to St. George, arriving there at 8AM. On Tues. it leaves St. George at 2PM. So, in reality, it's only a day and a half.

Not in August. August in Bermuda is very hot and humid. You might want a long sleeve top in the AC inside the ship but not on the island.

I agree, probably won't need anything long sleeved for Bermuda but it can't hurt to take something. We've been there numerous times in October, which is cooler than Aug., and I never needed anything. Of course, YMMV.:)

  11. Glad to read so many good things about Blu since I'll be in an Aqua Class.:)

I may have to try the MDR since I always thought Celebrity's food was better than any other line we've cruised on. It's been a number of years so things may have changed but it's probably still better than the mass market lines.

  12. Not sure. But it seems someone did say they got permission from RCCL to bring their drone on board. Not sure how they did it.

Yes, someone did get permission but they didn't elaborate on what or how they went about getting the permission. Perhaps that poster will come back.

Seems writing an article and giving the cruise line free advertising might be a reason.

The free advertising may be a plus but it might also bring out more people who want special permission to over ride the current policy.

  13. Best scuba diving in Bermuda?

I can rattle a diver friend's cage to get her here to post. She did a couple of dives as well as a night dive:

  14. Fact: The policy statement is clear as a bell.

But the OP can challenge all he wants if he so desires. Why simply accept a company's policy?

Dontcha' know, some always want an exception because THEIR situation is different.

  15. ...........Plush" toilet paper is likely to clog drains.........

Once again, nope. Look for the link in post #42 for the explanation.

Yes he did. Use the search function and you'll find it.

    ........................

Search function does not always bring up what you're looking for and many times, the choices having nothing to do with what you want.
