Yea.  Without that, we're just not going to go until restrictions lifted.  Can you imagine looking at 5 ships docked at Cozumel, and not a single guest being allowed to wander and shop the downtown.  And imagine the merchants looking out at the ships with the captive passengers on board.  There's no point in doing port stops I think.   In fact, sea days only might be the first cruises.

Yes--I thought about the merchants too....so very sad for them.  Guess the only locals who will profit are those affiliated with NCL for sponsored  excursions.

Exactly.  While the restriction is understandable it is also a deal breaker.  We cruise mostly for the ports and almost never do group excursions, especially not the ship-sponsored type.

While I am not big on excursions for many ports (esp ones I have visited before), I do so love to just find a local place to eat and shop or revisit some place I did see on a past sailing .  That is all gone now.

.  Also this may make or break people wanting to cruise.

I agree.  Though I certainly  do understand the logic behind it as others have mentioned. .  Cruisers will have to take all the restrictions under consideration before booking.   I , for one, will be putting cruising on hold .

This happened to me,    a few weeks ago,  I was retuning from Alaska.   It was added back on the "quarantine"  list before I left to go home.     I did fully comply and came off the  14 day  "house arrest"  a week ago.    🙂

It is happening to many people....and surely causing much disruption to lives.  People in NJ/NY  just can't make plans to go anywhere as they never know what "tomorrow will bring".  I am sure it is the same elsewhere.  We are at the mercy of not only the virus but also the state officials .  (

Even employers are pulling the 14day quarantine and test card. I had to cancel a road trip because of my husbands work. We can even go into PA or NY because of it and they're on the safe list to travel as of last week anyway,

Yes--very sad and confusing....every few days the list of places changes...a person could easily be on the way home from a "safe" place and get to NJ and find out it it is no longer "safe" and must quarantine.  😲

  6. Currently NJ has travel restrictions (as does other states) for 35 states and jurisdictions ..requiring 14 day quarantine ...when back to NJ...kind of makes all travel including cruising very difficult .   So I stand by my opinion..that there will be no cruising for awhile for many .

Just reading the 74 recommendations from the panel NCL/RCI formed is not only costly but some are  time consuming. The cruiselines have a task ahead of them.

Training for the crew, temperature checks daily for crew and pax, masks for all including PPE's for some crew.

Yes--just saw the panel thread... now for sure my opinion is late spring or summer at the earliest...and surely not a full compliment of sailings, etc.   Cruising experience  is going to be changed forever....😢

  9. I cancelled my November cruise (out of NYC).  Northeast .. is and will ..surely take it's time reopening everything . Other problem is if ports scheduled will be open which is applicable to all cruises not just NY.

In my opinion...it will be well into next spring/summer till there is any beginning of normalcy in cruising.

It is about the amount of time you spend in that indoor space. I going shopping once a week but I am only in the store or an hour or less, then back home. If I go to a restaurant I am there for an hour or so, then back home. In a ship you will eat, sleep, play and lounge together for 168 (24 hours x 7 days) hours. I think it is all about the potential amount exposure time.

Yes---at home we can control our exposure time and also have more control on how often we are exposed.

But speaking of Florida........how about this for hypocrisy.   The governor was forcing schools to open yet they keep the Florida lottery office closed among other state offices.  Its unsafe for someone who wins the lottery to claim the ticket which is one person walking into the office yet its ok for hundreds of kids and teachers to mingle together.

I hear ya !!!   EVERY state seems to have unique and inequitable ways of dealing with COVID.  Here in NJ liquor stores have never closed but almost  everything else was (except for very  essential services).  We are now just starting with phased in openings, though far too late to save so many businesses.  The NJ economy has tanked, so the governor is talking tax increases. NJ is paying out enormous unemployment payments and has missed out on untold income from income and sales taxes which he could have avoided with a more timely and  intelligent opening plan for the state.

Our schools are open...but again..totally mixed bag...online only, mixed online and in person etc.  It is impossible to plan, in fact my daughter has taken an unpaid leave from her school job since her daughter has a mixed school schedule. Maybe a moot point ...as there are already some cases of Covid in schools and everyone is fearing yet another lock down.

I know, I know. I originally booked the seven cruises in July 2019. Today the same cabin category would cost about $1,000 per person more for each of the cruises, so about $14,000 more for the two of us in total. And the perks were better, for example more specialty restaurant meals were included, when we originally booked. Oh well !

Yes indeed....I had  a great price and so many great perks on my cancelled cruise....not going to see that anytime soon...😢

Even the most promising Covid-19 vaccines are expected to only be about 50% effective, according to Dr. Fauci.  This is not unusual since he said that the annual flu vaccine is only about 70% effective.

So, while a vaccine is desperately needed, it is NOT a cure-all.  What we need with a vaccine is an effective, proven TREATMENT.

    Absolutely true !!

  14. Even IF a vaccine was available this year..it would take a long time to vaccinate so many people especially if 2 doses are required ..plus there are many who will not want it or take it .  Add to that a chance that it may not be totally effective (think the annual flu vaccine !)....and the fact that this virus may mutate.

While I would love to sail again, there are way too many variables to have me feel it will be anytime soon.

I called today and wanted to move our March cruise to January of 2022 and Norwegian would not only not give us the same perks but wanted to charge me more.  You would have thought they would be doing everything in their power to keep loyal customers but rather it seems they are doing the opposite.

i just things will not be back to normal next March and wanted to have price of mind.  Not sure what they are thinking but it does not seem like they understand we are in a pandemic.

    what do other think

I think NCL will now do whatever it takes to increase revenue...at the expense of loyalty.
