  1. On my last cruise, I heard the rep turn down others asking to bring others.  Answer was no. Rules were strictly enforced day of tour, rep even sent 1 woman away for wearing sandals.  Security officer was always close by.

But , as already mentioned,...I surely doubt there will be any tours anytime soon after Covid especially since it would be impossible to social distance.

This promo, along with mostly higher prices, actually has taken away, not added or maintained.  And "employee pricing", that's a car dealership marketing gimmick.

Yes--"employee pricing"...used cars, mattresses, and appliances.  NCL is just missing the inflatable waving arms man.😁

But, if you’ve had the vaccine, why would that matter?

Sent from my iPhone using Forums

Because as some  experts say. ... so far....the vaccine is not expected to be  100% effective, with  Dr. Fauci  saying:

"(Reuters) - An approved coronavirus vaccine could end up being effective only 50-60% of the time, meaning public health measures will still be needed to keep the pandemic under control, Dr. Anthony Fauci, the top U.S. infectious diseases expert, said on Friday."

Yup, that's exactly what I'm leaning more and more towards doing but we have some time left.  Hate to do it because I got a great deal on that cruise but I don't want to buy the proverbial "pig in a poke".

I totally understand.....I cancelled a cruise with almost EVERY promo possible and at a great price...but had to weigh it all against risks.  I know I made the right decision for me...but everyone is different.

Refusing to take the vaccine can easily be countered by refusing to allow 'refusers' to board the ship.

Even though I'm sceptical of the successful development of a vaccine, I'm truly amazed at the backlash vaccine development.

Yes--!!!  So I guess we will all have to carry our "papers" (vaccine proof, doctor's note of fitness, etc) .😷😟

Though, I just thought of another possible glitch....there will never be a guarantee that people at   any visited port will have had the vaccine. Makes excursions ,etc very problematic.💉

All of the cruise lines are dealing with the same issues. I have an early January 2021 Caribbean cruise on HAL, with final payment in early October. I can’t imagine the cruise will go, but HAL hasn’t said anything yet. We certainly won’t make final payment.

I hear ya !!!   😉  Since I have not sailed other lines in many years...I was only thinking about NCL (though I have always been  disappointed  in their communication on many things in the past).

Fauci says that a vaccine that is 50% effective maybe all we can count on.

If indeed that will be true...also consider..that many people say they will not take advantage of the vaccine..(just like so many refuse flu and other vaccines)...

Considering all this....I think I will put cruising off till  least till 2022. Time will tell.....

Keep in mind the avid cruisers here who are ready to jump on a ship ASAP aren't representative of the average cruise customer.  Many will choose not to go in the coming months for various reasons:

    1.  Fear of the virus.  On ships, planes, etc etc.

    2.  Fear of a positive test cancelling mid-cruise, and/or being locked up on a quarantined prison ship

    3.  Personal covid related financial difficulties preventing travel

    4.  Choosing not to cruise with masks and a myriad of other onboard restrictions

Factors such as this may well reduce occupancy 50% (or whatever the goal is) without the cruise line having to cancel anyone.

They could be planning the usual cash grab.  Take deposits then wait until after people have made final payment (and bought airfare!) to let them know they are being booted.  Then take 90 days to refund.  You know what they say:  Fool me once, shame on you.  Fool me twice shame on me.

    This all makes sense....

And I do agree with OP--as usual NCL is showing their total lack of communication with their guests.

So I have seen this more than once, and I don't get this.  What exactly did they do that they need to offer some good public relations to make up for it?  They had almost zero cases, they shut down when asked, the followed all the guidelines so far, they broke no laws, this is where I am lost.

Let's not even get into specifics (of things NCL has done over the years--not  specific to virus problem)....just saying...just on face value..it would have been a nice gesture....general good PR for a company who will need it down the road.....

C'mon already!  Ya didn't earn the points, ya don't get the points!  😱

Seriously, however, it would have been a fabulous goodwill gesture on the part of NCL to have allowed us to keep the points we tried to earn.  However I kinda knew as soon as someone reported it here on CC & when I saw it on my own Latitudes statement that this was some sort of technical glitch in NCL's stellar IT systems...😳

As a previous poster stated; once more NCL Corporate manages to snatch defeat from the jaws of a public relations victory.

True.   NCL is correcting a mistake...BUT surely is loosing a chance at good public relations.

NCL could declare bankruptcy at any time and we would be out of luck. And, like many others we were willing to take that chance.

You can't have it both ways. As the old adage says, 'you pays your money, and you take your chances'.

So true....like many things, it was a gamble..  I was fortunate enough to just cut my losses...by getting my deposit refunded before final payment and now only loosing my third party insurance deposit.

Link for what?  There are cruise line training centers in the Philippines, Indonesia, Singapore, and India, owned/supported by all the major lines.  The number of cruise line crew is about 250,000 for all ships, representing about 180-190,000 onboard positions, and the remainder being those on vacation.

As always, thanks for posting ...your expertise is always appreciated.

Based on the news story below, I do not think NCL or any cruise line will be going out of NY/NJ any time soon.  Who could afford to quarantine in NY for two weeks prior to a cruise??

34 States, Plus DC and Puerto Rico, Now on NY Quarantine List

So true.....NJ/NY is really becoming even more cautious.....we have been through a lot...and people here are way to scared to open up too soon....

So many people are going to cancel if they keep the 120 day final. I find it mind boggling that they wouldn’t adjust it rather than scaring everyone off with this craziness in these times.

I agree...but actually am not surprised NCL is doing this.  They are aggressivley taking in as much money as they can as fast as they can.  Guess they think it will make their bottom line look better.
