  1. Well done Ava, especially on her first day. My son was also a lifeguard during collage and saved a few people In Kenya he was walking past the pool and noticed a young girl on the bottom. Nobody in the pool had noticed her. He got her out, she had to go hospital but survived In my teens I belonged to a surf lifesaving club on the beach in Perranporth in Cornwall . It's on the Atlantic coast and has big waves. But in those days the girls tended to look after lost kids and minor first aid and the guys did the life saving thing. My how times have changed
  2. I love swimming either in the sea or pools but can't for the life of me get the hang of crawl Gary's tried to teach me but just can't get it
  3. I was there last year and they are well displayed now were a very slow moving travellator in front so everyone gets a good look. You can go around as many times as you want. It was in-between lockdowns so was pretty quiet without the normal overseas visitors
  4. Think the whole country went into some kind of collective morning, never known anything like it. Literally a sea of thousands of flowers outside KP. You probably know that Dodis dad owned Harrods at the time . Presume donations were for charity? Seems strange
  5. It's very easy to book car hire in Halifax. The offices are close to where the ships dock. That's what we did last time. You can then drive to Peggy's Cove, it's easy to park there or in the opposite direction there are some nice sights. The titanic museum is interesting too
  6. We did too, 30% discount I think . But this was years ago, not sure if they still do discounts
  7. Wonderful review I really enjoyed reading it and great photos. Makes me want to go on a Royal Caribbean ship , I haven't been on one since 2019 and I miss her Sorry to read about both the fall and the disastrous return journey home but you have the right attitude to make the best of things. I hope your insurance pays up. Thanks again
  8. I just had 12 great days on Beyond in the Med and the month before a week on Silhouette on a Norwegian Fjords cruise and didn't get covid. But I believe it's on most ships, maybe 1-3% catch it. I have some immunity having had Omicron in recent months which I think does help. We were also fairly careful with crowds, wearing good masks on public transport etc If you read these boards there is some talk about covid on ships or people catching it once home
  9. A lot of weight put on quickly on a cruise is mostly water retention and once home can be shed within a week or two. Weight put on slowly over time is more difficult to shift without big changes to lifestyle
  10. Same here , I kept an eye open on the dailies for an art tour but didn't notice anything. I would of liked to of known more about the art on Beyond
  11. You go to the nicest restaurants Graham. We're having work done in the hall, kitchen and study and builders come super early so I've been having brunch out the last few days but not as nice as your restaurants
  12. We has concierge class on Silhouette and Beyond recently. Silhouette because it was a late booking and that was all that was available and Beyind because we got a moveup bid accepted . We were moved from deck 6 to deck 12. The CanapΓ©s, IMO, aren't very good and we didn't eat them. The wine on Silhouette was nice but on Beyond it was horrible, pink sweet fizz. We had one mouthful and left it. I think you also get upgraded shampoo/conditioner/body lotion and better bath robes and slippers plus umbrella and binoculars left in room for your use. The towels were thick, not sure if they are different The embarkation lunch was nice.
  13. Agree on Beyond last month, unless you are early and get a good seat the sight lines make it difficult to catch much of the show. One night it was so packed, shoulder to shoulder, standing room only, we left after a few minutes as felt it was a covid risk. We couldn't see anything from where we were standing anyway. The main theatre was amazing BTW
  14. In concierge class on Silhouette and Beyond this spring, both had Bigelow products, big refillable bottles. Normally i take my own, but they stayed in the wash bag. I was more than happy with the provided products
  15. Today DH is off on a charity cycle ride. They meet up in Dover tonight and cross to Dunkirk early tomorrow to start the ride to Ypres and back. Will take three days and back home on Monday. Not such a long trip as some he's done but I'm a bit concerned as he hasn't done much prep training this time and it's been a few years since his last long ride. Will be around 75 miles a day. But he's using an electric bike this time which should help smooth out the hills Fingers crossed it all goes well πŸ™
  16. So funny story from DH yesterday. He was in London meeting up with some mates. They were having drinks on a pavement cafe and he had his back to the road telling a story. He realised that no one was listening but peering over his shoulder. He turned round and there was a photo shoot going on but the model had stripped off to her waist!! She had her hands modestly over her chest and Gary said he turned back and didn't see any more, always the gentleman ....
  17. Quite interesting, all the politicians maneuvering for a shot at being PM. So in UK we vote for a political party not a person. The PM is whoever is leader of the party that wins. Therefore this won't trigger a general election, there is a process for a leadership contest and in the meantime there will be a caretaker government in charge. DH was in London yesterday and said lots of TV crews and journalists in College Green outside Parliament but Downing Street was very quiet
