  1. Or they could have been notified at embarkation. Given a choice

It is NOT unheard of for a cruiseline to offer their pax the option to cancel in situations like this

    With a refund.

.....I think NCL knew all along they were going to go to PC and Nassau. This way they told them when they were a captive audience and could do nothing about it.

The majority of my cruises have been peak hurricane season. If something like this happens to me on my upcoming Breakaway cruise, I will be disappointed. But think of the alternative, if they take you north to New England/Canada. Not that there is anything wrong with those 2 destinations, but if I want to go there, I'll book a cruise there like I have done in the past. If I book hot, I want hot.

  2. Geez....it was just a question. No need to be rude and/or sarcastic when others ask questions. (That is the tone that came across). Not everyone has the same knowledge. This is part of the issue on CC; just because I do not know what you know does not make me lack 'logical deduction'. I ask that you have patience with others' questions and be more open minded.

    Thanks in advance. :)

Was not being rude or sarcastic, sorry if you took it that way.

  3. Yes, I know that it's all on the NCL website, but, some people still are not on the computer (mom, dh) and like to look at it on paper. Yes, I know that it could be printed out, but we have bad internet service and need a new printer. My question is: If you request it, will NCL send out the shore excursion descriptions in the mail like the good old days? Thanks!

.....but why not call and ask? All they can say is no.

  4. I have checked everywhere here and can't seem to find the answer. Does anyone know how to change the date on a Roll Call? Since the time the OP set up roll call Norwegian has added an extra day which is the sail date. The OP has not updated the post and was wondering if I would be able to., (to my knowledge it has been over 6 months since OP visited roll call last)

I was hesitant to join and am thinking maybe others are too.

.....if they deem the date should be updated they will do it.

  5. When booking excursions through NCL, there is a duration time posted and I am wondering if this is the duration from the time you leave the ship to the time you get back. I am planing an afternoon excursion and would also like to book a dinner reservation at a specialty restaurant, but I don't want to book a reservation I won't be able to make.

Usually that is the time they pick you up till the time they drop you off.

But remember, sometimes believe it or not, there is traffic or other factors that could make it longer.

  6. If you order Lobster, the charge would be $30. I presume they would allow you to also order Filet Mignon if you had the appetite!

Why would it be $30. There is the $10 upcharge and the $10 extra entree fee. Where do you get the other $10 from? I must be missing it.

  7. There have been posts in both this thread and also our roll call thread about sharing a taxi. Since this thread has many less posts and is easier to keep track of lets keep any future posts in this thread.

    Bob

Wouldn't it be better to keep it in your roll call thread so others don't have to read about your plans?

  8. Anyone booking a cruise for Bermuda in August or September should know there is a very, very good chance of this happening! Not sure I understand all of the "can I cancel" comments.

I tend to disagree with you about a "very, very good chance". You are correct that the time frame you speak about is peak hurricane season. But if you look at my cruises, almost all of them have been during that time. I had port sequence changed on cruise and missed a private island on another.

I consider this a pretty good track record.

However, that said, I'm sure I'll get hit with a tsunami in 18 days when it's my turn.

  9. That is not what I said. I said I don't mind a sliding scale that gets to a bigger loss of deposit as it gets closer to sailing.

I mind paying in full at 68 days and being subject to losing either all of it, or 25% of it if I have insurance AND meet their requirement for getting money back.

So no, I don't expect NCL to eat the cost of the cabin if I cancel. The same way I don't expect an airline to eat the cost of a cancelled seat. But I also don't expect to lose so much of a deposit, or all of it, if I do cancel.

As I said in my OP, perhaps cruising just isn't for me.

Okay, didn't mean to get you riled.

  10. Thanks again.

I called NCL to get some more information and my Lattitudes number, and discovered that we were already within the 68 full payment period. I don't mind making full payment, but the cancellation policy is onerous for us - even with insurance we risk losing 25% of our deposit if we have to cancel.

They also told me that internet access is .75 per minute at the internet cafe. I asked about shipwide wifi, and the person said "the internet cafe is .75 per minute." I suspect he didn't have a clue.

We may wait until closer to sailing before making up our minds. I don't mind a cancellation policy with a sliding scale of deposit loss, but this policy is more than I'm willing to commit to.

Will keep you posted should we decide to go :)

I don't understand. If you book the cruise and possibly cancel at the last minute, do you think NCL should have to eat the cost of your cabin if it can't be resold?

  11. Glad to hear. Thanks for the post Rick.

Enjoy your cruise and safe sailing!

Every Day at Sea is a Great Day

A friend of mine on the ship said they got $48 in port fees for missing Bermuda.

  12. I see that there is a Lobster option on the menu of Le Bistro for an extra $10 (Butter roasted lobster tail).

Anyone tried this and do you think it's worth it?

.....say you want to have 'surf & turf', so you order a Filet Mignon and Lobster.

Is that going to be $10 for an additional entree or $20 for the upcharge and extra entree?

  13. From what I can gather, Bermuda can be chilly in the winter. Weatherwise, you might be better off in Florida,

.....we sailed out of NY going to Port Canaveral, Nassau and Freeport. I will never again sail out of NY in the winter. The weather was nice, but I could not go in any water at all. We even had a day pass at a resort that had a pool but the pools were not heated either.

    :(

  14. Good Morning we are looking at booking AFT cabin 9920 on Breakway, it is for a special birthday celebration, Can anyone advise please if this is a good choice and also if the cabin will be quite? Thanks

.....I tried to get one for my Alaskan cruise which is almost 10 months away but they are all gone.

On the Breakaway, from what I have read, the only time you should have any noise/vibration is when the ship pulls into port. You're far enough away from Spice H2O and it looks like all you have under you is restaurants.

  15. .....thinking about the Sun June of 2015. Can anyone who has traveled on her for Alaska, shed any light on thoughts about a mini-suite at the front of the ship or aft?

I love aft cabins, but I'm wondering if for this cruise if the side ones might be better?

Any thoughts I would love to hear them.

    TIA

  16. So what would you guys think the chances are that next week's sailing will end up in bermuda? We are in the Haven too but still want to see bermuda!

.....there are no disturbances behind this current hurricane so I would think if Bermuda survives the next couple of days you should have no issue the following week.

If you talk to my wife, she'll tell you I'm always wrong. So take this with a grain of salt.

    ;)
