  1. Why? Ask your cruise ship's safety officer. They'll explain that it's important in the event of an actual emergency for you know where to assemble and there's no better way of doing that than making you go to that assembly station for the muster drill.
  2. Not until next year...until the cruise season starts this spring, which means about three months from now when MSC and Cunard start cruising from Brooklyn.
  3. Actually he became the richest person in the world at the expense of American taxpayers through billions in subsidies. Tesla came close to filing for bankruptcy in2019. https://www.cnn.com/2021/11/14/investing/elon-musk-wealth-taxpayer-support/index.html Tesla ranked 9th in 2022 US car sales. Leading manufacturer GM sold about 4 times more cars in the US than Tesla. https://www.statista.com/statistics/204354/us-light-vehicle-sales-in-september-2011-by-company/ . BTW, Musk is no longer the world's richest person. I've voted with my wallet...I will never voluntarily give him a penny of my money by buying one of his automobiles. It's very relevant when the company's stockholders are taking a bath, your company is laying off a significant number of employees, you fire a subsidiary's president and replace him with your son, you're raising prices while cutting the quality of the product, all while being given the fattest compensation package in the industry despite heading what is by far the smallest of the major players in the business. NCLH, and Oceania in particular, are holding a substantial amount of my money. That will change shortly unless NCLH's 2022 10-K, which is going to be filed in a few weeks gives me a very good reason to change my mind, and based on the financials I've seen to date that is extremely unlikely.
  4. Correct. The virtual muster drills were never intended to be permanent . They were strictly a temporary COVID era adjustment to minimize passengers' exposure to large, densely packed crowds.
  5. FYI, the trail doesn't exist any longer in Hamilton proper so you'll have to find the right place outside of the city to start your tour. Have you ascertained that the rental locations you're considering in both Hamilton and St. George's are open on Sunday? If you're considering renting from Oleander it appears that their Hamilton office may be closed on Sundays, and their St. George's office may not be open at all, at least in the off season. The bicycle tour issues aside, I think you're going to have great difficulty returning from St. George's to the ship on Sunday. There's been a problem for several years with inadequate taxi availability in St. George's and that problem is likely to be even worse on a Sunday as most businesses will be closed . If you find a taxi the fare will be well over $100 because of the 50% Sunday fare surcharge.
  6. I've done multiple full transits in both directions. Choose your cruise based on the cruise line/ship/other ports of call that you like best. I strongly recommend that for a first time transit you choose a ship that uses the original locks. Any of the above criteria are far more important than the direction of the cruise . There are so many potential ports of call on a Panama Canal cruise that I doubt anyone is going to take the time to research which have a a dolphin encounter other than someone might recall a port that did from past experience .
  7. You can carry on anything that will fit in the scanner at the security checkpoint in the cruise terminal.
  8. Here's general information from NCL's website: https://www.ncl.com/why-cruise-norwegian/wedding-cruises The above web page will give you a phone number, email address and a link to the website of the company that NCL contracts with for the purpose of planning weddings, which is: https://ncl.eweddingcalendar.com/ .
  9. You can't return a car at the port itself, but there are Hertz and Enterprise locations nearby that are close to the Crowne Plaza . Just be aware that these offices are not open on Sunday.
  10. If it will make you feel any better you won't be in NYC, you'll be in New Jersey. As others have said, taxis and Uber/Lyft are readily available, just as they are in any urban or suburban area of the US.
  11. We've stayed at the El San Juan a number of times, although not recently and not under the Fairmont brand. I'd certainly consider it for a day pass visit. You should expect the food and drink to be expensive.
  12. Bermuda shorts. Standard business attire in Bermuda. Without the jacket and tie for a cruise : https://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=https%3A%2F%2Fmedia.cntraveler.com%2Fphotos%2F54c2ce58f026e0d339fb7eff%2Fmaster%2Fw_1600%2Cc_limit%2Fmen-bermuda-shorts.jpg&imgrefurl=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.cntraveler.com%2Fstories%2F2015-01-26%2Fdress-code-how-to-wear-bermuda-shorts&tbnid=LeYsT2AFYRwBsM&vet=12ahUKEwjl1cOItNn8AhXVsHIEHevwAjAQMygBegUIARCaAw..i&docid=XrGStunDGzI_9M&w=1600&h=1200&q=men's bermuda shorts&ved=2ahUKEwjl1cOItNn8AhXVsHIEHevwAjAQMygBegUIARCaAw
  13. I agree. My experience has been the same as yours. It has varied by itinerary and ship management. We've been on B2B cruises where the dress code was different on the two segments.
  14. I believe the OP may be asking about disembarkation. There's at least one US cruise port, Fort Lauderdale, where there are Global Entry kiosks for disembarking passengers. Miami may have them too. I don't know about San Juan, but it's not impossible that they're available there too. Most large cruise ports now use facial recognition biometrics for disembarking passengers so the advantage of Global Entry is no longer as great as it once was, particularly since most passengers also no longer have to fill out customs declaration forms. The disembarkation process is now much quicker than before even without the use of Global Entry.
  15. New York's a port call, not the original embarkation port (although it's possible some passengers may be embarking there if that was offered as a segment of the world cruise). I believe the full world cruise is Southampton to Southampton. Manhattan is typically used for port calls because the vast majority of passengers will be sightseeing there . Obviously far more convenient than Brooklyn.
  16. Correction. I meant to say "more than 9 years ago" . It was too late to edit my post when I realized it. ☚ī¸
  17. You can't use FedEx, UPS, DHL or similar companies because they can't deliver to the PO boxes used for passport renewals. Only USPS is permitted from the USA, or Canada Post if you live in Canada. https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/passports/have-passport/renew.html "If you live in the United States, you must use the United States Postal Service (USPS) to mail your renewal application and supporting documents. If you live in Canada, you should use Canada Post. Please do not use other delivery services such as UPS, FedEx, or DHL. Only USPS or Canada Post can deliver to the PO Box addresses listed on Form DS-82. If you use UPS, FedEx, DHL, or another company to send your application, the application will be returned to you."
  18. You quoted the procedures for the newly introduced online renewal process. The standard renewal by mail process does not include the "less than 9 years ago" restriction. You're only helping people when you get your facts straight.
  19. Expressions of opinion are inappropriate and of no bearing in matters that are strictly fact. Whether more than three blank pages are needed is a factual matter based solely on the countries being visited and their requirements. Just because you haven't "come close to using 3 pages" on your passport doesn't mean others haven't. I certainly have on numerous occasions .
  20. You're 0 for 2. (1) You can renew any time. The expiration date of you current passport is irrelevant. (2) No...if you're running out of pages since you can no longer get new pages added to your current passport you go through the ordinary renewal process and your new passport will expire in 10 years from the date it's issued. In addition, unless you've looked at the OP's itinerary and checked the requirements for each country the cruise will be calling on, how can you express an "opinion" that 3 blank pages for the upcoming cruise are adequate?
  21. That's also not true because in Florida NCL also sails from Port Canaveral and Tampa, not just from Miami.
  22. You need to make a correction to the above. 😉
  23. In 35+ years of cruising encompassing hundreds of days on board ships on about a dozen different cruise lines including Oceania and Azamara, the only time we were on a ship with a severe GI illness outbreak was on Oceania...and virtually every one of our other cruises were on lines where you serve yourself at the buffet. When we recovered and went back to the buffet for breakfast the person who served me every morning told me she and other buffet crew had gotten sick. No one can say what the origin of the GI outbreak was, but perhaps that server who I was in contact with every day was responsible for my illness...or perhaps it was the other way around...or that neither of us became infected by the other. The point is that buffet servers can pass illness to the passengers and crew just as passengers can pass illness to passengers and crew. Might not allowing self service cut the risk somewhat? Sure...but It's on the bottom of my list of reasons why I would choose one cruise line over another.
