  1. Personally I love an opportunity to get all dressed up for a formal night in my lovely dresses. Its not like I get to do it everyday. So with all my frequent cruises, I thoroughly enjoy it. The only thing I have changed over the years, especially in the land of packing is, no more heels. I hate packing them just to wear them to dinner and to take them off immediately, because of the discomfort.

  2. Pictures and videos I have seen of Michelle's tour, is absolute breath taking. I Can;t wait to experience this for myself.

The great thing about this trip was the absolute silence standing on the pontoons on the lake and watching eagles flying over our heads. You could almost touch the silence. I am so glad I did it before I developed tinnitus. I'll never experience silence again.

On this trip you'll see the real Alaska.

  3. LOVE YOU ALL for this recommendation!!!! I am super excited, as I await for my return email, with all the booking details. YAY!!!!!

Another vote for Island Wings. This was an awesome adventure with Michelle. You cannot go wrong on this one. Best excursion possible in Ketchikan. When we landed on the lake and exited the plane, there was not a sound anywhere. A very humbling experience. Go for it!;)
  4. Great tip. The smaller plane alone, already makes it sound so much nicer. Awesome! Thank you so much for sharing this with me. Request form for booking has been sent!

    We customized........

We ended up using a smaller 4 seater plane for a more private tour with my son and FIL.

Went to the same places. Landed on a small lake and we were the only ones there. Saw bear/moose etc from the air.

They do the same tour as Princess as well with the bigger plane.

It was a tad cheaper. Not much though.

  5. Yes, you can get apple juice in the dinning room, along with orange juice, milk, and chocolate milk for kids. He will be in apple juice heaven, with a side of his macaroni and cheese.

  6. Took years of practice. I literally keep a running checklist on my phone notes of things I "ACTUALLY" wear. I use to over pack, thinking, "How am I suppose to know what I am going to feel like wearing?" Later realizing, I never touched half the stuff. I got down to basics now. Plus when traveling by air, I will ONLY take a carry-on luggage, as I don;t like checking in baggage. 1. Afraid my luck it will get lost. 2.I don;t have the patience to wait at the luggage carousel.

I wish I was a light packer... My husband does too.
  7. Perfect!!! I am a light packer, and my luggage is usually of carry on size. Thanks for your help :)

We have taken our carry on luggage on in Seattle in both Bells and Smiths Cove and as I recall, they are the same size machines that exist at the airport.

A carry on with the dimensions of 24"x15"x10" will fit just fine ... anything bigger should be checked with the porter.

  8. Are the x-ray machines large enough, where I can carry on my own luggage at the Seattle Cruise Port, and not check it in with the porter? I only ask, because I know Port Everglades is no problem, as I do it all the time. However when I embarked in Copenhagen, the x-ray machines were only big enough for a hand bag, therefore luggage had to be checked in with the porter. Thanks in advance.

  9. Thanks for the mini explanation. Your helpfulness is appreciated.

There probably is no snow in Juneau anymore. And there are excursions on wheels for dog sledding for those who don't want to pay for the cost of a helicopter excursion.

If you are flying and landing on a glacier - there is usually snow until mid-August or so. When the snow melts on the glacier and they can't dog sled, they cancel those tours. Again - that doesn't usually happen until mid to end of August.

He may be confusing 2 different things all together. Hopefully a local familiar with Norris Glacier will respond.

  10. Just wanted to check, as I have a Princess Cruises excursion booked to do the helicopter to Norris Glacier in Juneau for dog mushing / sledding end of July. A friend of mine who just sailed on the Ruby a week ago, claimed there is no snow, so they were doing the dog sledding on rollers. IS this true with Norris Glacier? Its an expensive excursion, to have no snow for the full effect of the experience. Thanks in advance for any input.

  12. I have sailed both holidays for years back to back, including on the Regal since its opened. Yes there is a huge increase of children onboard, however the kids programs onboard does such a lovely job with them, that you really don;t hear or see many of them. Obviously you will see some, but they have always been very well behaved in my opinion. I'm a school teacher, so from my perspective, its not a problem at all.

  13. That sounds lovely the special offerings in the Sanctuary during an Alaskan sailing. Curious was it fully booked in there on Glacier Day? Such a cleaver idea on your part.

We just got back from our Alaskan cruise on the Ruby yesterday. We stayed in th Sanctuary on Glacier Bay day. The cost $60 per person. We got earmuff headbands, insulated mugs, 3 photos. We were served breakfast, lunch and tea. There were two blankets for each person. Hot coffee and hot chocolate for drinking, mimosas and bloody Mary's. We felt so pampered. We did not have to fight the crowds. One of our favorite things on the cruise.

I really enjoyed "Magic to Do" show. The other show was good, but not great. Enjoyed the singer/storyteller at Skagway, listening to the band playing Dixieland jazz, David Williams in the Crooners lounge, Great time!

  14. Not really sure what the big deal really is. If your elite, you already get a lot of the befits. Also as for the dinning, I've always done traditional dinning, therefore I am still getting the same table and waiters each evening. For me personally, Its not worth anything to have to spend an extra $400. I agree the ones who mentioned they would have kept the Emerald cabin, I like the covered balcony.

  15. My sister and I sailed the Alaska route on the Ruby last year. I strongly recommend that you watch the Princess Patter daily for Alaska specials served up at the Trident Grill up on the pool deck at lunch time. On various days they served a halibut burger, fish tacos, crab cakes and even reindeer chili. All these were based on recipes from Alaskan restaurants. They don't post the specials on the sign at the grill -- you need to ask.

Fish Tacos? Halibut Burgers? OMG! Now that sounds amazing. I always do enjoy a good cheese burger from Trident Grill, but those new exciting options sound AMAZING!!!! Thanks for the heads up. Thankfully I am onboard for multiple weeks, therefore it gives me a chance to try most of the yummy alternative options out. I sailed the Ruby for years while it was sailing in and out of the Caribbean, so these new options are exciting.

  16. My dad had to back out a week prior to sailing, due to sever back issues. About a month afterwards or so, I received a check in the mail for the FCD. I originally was hoping the FCD was going to be put back under his name so we would not lose out on it for another future cruise. What to do. Just grateful I was given the money back in some form.

  17. Christine, You have gone above and beyond. Your tips, reviews, and Q&A have been fabulous. I've done many cruises, but this is my first Alaskan cruise, so you've raised my excitement levels to the millions. I'm thrilled you did the ship tour. I have not personally done it, but had the lovely opportunity to visit the bridge on the Regal, which is loads of fun. Being Elite does have its perks once in awhile. If you haven;t tried already, I always recommend the chefs table. Its such an amazing experience, with phenomenal food.
