  1. This happened to us back in March, and we booked a yr in advance. Once we boarded we found out which restaurant we were assigned to. We went there and spoke to the host, and she said we couldn't make any reservations in advance, but just show up where and when we wanted and they would try to accommodate. Then my other friends on board had early dining and WERE able to make reservations for the time and place they wanted. So I guess it depends on who you ask.

  2. Usually they do nothing unless you mention it to someone wherever you are dining that night. Then you get a little cake. We cruise every year for our anniversary on one of 3 cruiselines, always note it on the reservation, and have never received champagne. A couple of times I've had a balloon outside the door for a birthday on RC.

  3. You might like an Oasis class Royal Caribbean cruise, but it can get rowdy and a lot of kids. Here's how you might like it:

Get a dining package so that you can have all or most of your dinners in specialty dining, for a nice adult ambiance. 150 Central Park is my favorite restaurant. Spend your days in the solarium; there is even a really nice but small buffet restaurant in there for a light healthy lunch. Don't book a Boardwalk balcony because you'll hear a lot of noise from your balcony. It is best to book when school is in session if you want a more adult crowd. The DIAMOND CLUB is really nice (you will have a concierge there) and your room key will get you in. They have hors d'vors and open bar every evening.....and/or you can get 3 free drinks at almost any bar for 3 hrs every night until 8 or 8:30.  We don't feel we need the beverage package because of this. The club also has an espresso machine that is on all day, and they serve continental breakfast in the morning. All ships with a Promenade have the Promenade Cafe pastry and coffee bar, though it's not elegant like on X.

Princess is another good choice. The Royal and Regal ships are really nice, and we love the Sanctuary (extra fee). The Retreat pool and bar outside of the Sanctuary is adults only. The entertainment on Princess is excellent, lots to do and see. The age demographics are similar to Celebrity.

It sounds like Oceania would be perfect for you also.

Whatever you choose, have a great cruise!

They probably meant that WiFi calling can be enabled, since it can be easily turned off in setting. (At least on an IPhone)

Yes, that it what I meant. I do not know technical language. T-Mobile is now only carrying phones that are capable of wifi-calling, but you can turn wifi-calling on or off of course.

I usually need to go and redistribute OBC - one of the secrets to our long marriage is keep our finances separate - we never fight over money. 😉  We always have separate accounts and they often distribute the OBC in a strange way - sometimes he gets it all or I will get it all or part of it. I had some OBC put in through my credit card reward one time (my name only) and they put it under his account. I always go to Guest Relations and set it straight - it is very quick.

Don't worry about it not showing up right away - OBC may not show up immediately. They will charge your account when you purchase something and then credit it once the OBC is added so by the end of the cruise it is a wash.

Thank you! That is very reassuring! This is a stateroom in my group, so I'll make sure they know what to do. I put 2 of my friends who've never met in a room together and this happened because the primary passenger thought they each had $300. I think she got confused because she was originally going to be single occupancy, so she would have had all of the OBC.

No worries! I posted something on the wrong thread today. They probably thought I had lost my mind since it had nothing to do with the topic. 🙂

I noticed the lounge chair lack in the shade and totally understand. Maybe they will move the furniture around in response to complaints and put some lounges in the shade. So many people can’t be in the sun!

As far as Luminae, I was thinking of people with dietary restrictions  and how they will work hard to meet their needs. The limited menu is an issue though - totally agree. Luckily we enjoy most of the things on the menu so it’s not as much of an issue for us. Not sure if you are follow Jim’s live Edge thread, but they are introducing  new items  so something to look forward to when in a suite next!

    Thanks for explaining!!🙂

You're welcome. I'll check out the new menus. We have a lot of food issues, but we love good food, LOL. Neither of us eats pork or shellfish. DH doesn't eat meat, but he'll eat most fish. And we don't usually eat dessert...we save the calories for wine and alcohol!

    😁😁😁

Though I agree that Luminae has a limited menu, people have said that they will work with you, especially if you talk to them ahead of time - they really want to make you happy.

There are some shady areas on the Edge Retreat - maybe not enough for some or exactly where they would like it, but pretty nice areas, IMO. The Edge may not be a good fit for you, but wanted to make sure people had more info upon which to make their decisions. 🙂

The Retreat Lounge has a connected outside deck that is fully covered and great for breakfast, lunch, drinks  and reading in the shade.

Hi vtcruising. I should have been more specific but just briefly stated what I would choose and why without thinking that it could harm someone's decision about suites on E class ships. Sorry about that. I also apologize for the above reposting of your photos, as I am having internet connection issues today.

You are correct, there is lots of shaded area in the Retreat. However, my DH and I require having traditional lounge chairs in the shade in order to enjoy our sea days, which I don't believe are in the Retreat. My friend just came back from a suite on the Edge and this is what she told be, and I don't see any lounge chairs in the shade in your photos either.

Regarding Luminae, I like the idea of choosing from both Luminae and MDR menus on the spot without having to plan my meals in advance. I've had several meals where between my DH and I we only chose one item on the L menu and everything else from the MDR menu. So that is important to me. And there is no way that I would want to send the staff decks away to the other kitchen when they are already so busy, as I am a very considerate person, not high maintenance at all. Also, on E class I love the small MDR restaurants, if you can even call them MDR, so I don't feel the need for Luminae like on the other ships where I don't want to eat in the huge room. Smaller restaurants is actually the main reason that we have booked suites or Aquaclass, believe it or not. We've been to the S and M class specialty restaurants so many times that we don't really want to go again.

This is all just a matter of personal preference.

  9. 2 people are cruising in one cabin with $150 pp OBC  (that's how it is on the confirmation) through GOBETTER. Pre-cruise, they have already spent about $250, and one guest already spent about $48 dollars more than the other, spending $2 more than her share of the $150.  They are going to be using 2 separate credit cards.

Is the remaining OBC automatically evenly divided into 2 accts onboard?

If so, can they go to guest relations and have it all immediately moved over to the guest who should be getting it? (Immediately would be best so that they can start using their credit right away without any confusion).

We haven’t been on X before, is this actual Sushi or is it 10 variations on a California roll? NCL has been the only line i have been on to offer actual sushi (Princess did in limited fashion) vs everyone else that serves artificial crab meat with rice a seaweed and portraying that as sushi.

    Thanks!

The menu offers both maki and sashimi.

The website says it is 10 percent off. Do you get even more discount thru captain’s club membership?

The amount of discount depends on your loyalty level. Each CC member can only get a discount on the one device plan, so if you are using 2 devices at a time, sometimes the online sale price is better than the loyalty discount.

  12. We stayed at Hotel Gaudi off the Ramblas. We had a big balcony overlooking the colorful Palau Guell rooftop and the price was excellent! I might prefer the neighborhood by the Jazz Hotel, though, as the block where our hotel was felt a bit rough late at night.

  13. Rome Cabs provides excellent reliable transportation service and you can book online. We've been picked up from FCO, hotels, and port. We love the door to door service and would not like to deal with train stations and luggage.

We've stayed at hotel Albergo Cesari a few times. The location is excellent, breakfast is included, and there is a nice rooftop bar. The price is very reasonable. We've stayed in a couple of other hotels, but this location is our favorite, central but not noisy.
