I've never had a kettle in my stateroom on any ship? We just go to cafe prom before breakfast :)
so you haven't been on independence of the seas or any P&O ships then ??
-
i agree, no one should be comfortable on there vacation
damn right !!
I think you know what I mean. A cruise is meant to have a bit of class. If you want to dress like you're in benidorm, that's up to you.......but don't bring your lack of style on a beautiful classy ship.
-
Double agony on that evening for folks who don't like formal night.
Yep ......... Double joy ocean boy lol.
I shall fill you all in on the results ......
-
I assume you're talking about the Anthem. That'll be the two nights you will be in Grande - everyone with you in Grande will be "formal" but everyone else will not be.
well apparently that's what they wrote in their email.
I was beside myself with excitement lol.
it's okay, I won't hold my breath lol
-
Just received an email from RCI confirming there will be 2 formal nights on the 22nd of may 2015.
just thought I'd mention it.
If it happens ...... bonus. If it doesn't ...... I'm past caring now lol
-
Why are travel kettles not allowed? I haven't heard this before?
god knows, health and safety maybe ??? I might take one myself. be nice to find out properly though.
BTW, I completely lost this post. did they move it ?
-
I do think it's a shame that it's erring on side of casual really.
that's when everything starts slipping.
next thing it'll be shorts and vests all over the place.
granted, a nice slinky pair of Jeans are extremely appealing.
but it's that whole "comfortable thing that" irritates me a bit.
where do you draw the line ?
-
I agree with you, but a formal night is an event, not something people are forced into.
its only the same as a Caribbean night or a fancy dress night.
You are not forced into it, it's just lovely being a part of it.
and I can't figure out why people put on full formal dress and then go back and change after.
A lot of effort for nothing lol.
Stitch (loving formal nights)

Anthem is launching with Classic dining, so I'd expect to start seeing reviews in a couple of weeks.
yes ..... from me. I'm on classic 2 on the 22nd of may.
-
Well at the end of the day, you wear what you're comfortable in.
As long as they have formal nights it's okay.
If you want to wear jeans and trainers, that's your look out.
We love the pomp and splendour of the formal nights.
but it's not everyones cup of tea.
Some of us embrace tradition, you obviously don't.
that's your choice. but they shouldn't take it away from people that do want them.

Stitchman, I realize you're in London, so your terminology of "sorted me out a nice little phiippino girl" probably makes complete sense to another reader in England. However here in America? Not sure exactly what you are referring to - I hope it means he introduced you to a nice young woman....right? Because if money was involved, either between you and the bartender or you and the girl, I'm pretty sure we don't want to know.... Lol. :D
I assure you ....... she was lovely and made great company :)
and my stateroom looked a treat at the end of it !!
and no palms got crossed with silver lol :)
-
I love formal nights too.
Just a shame the whole formal gala night thing will be missing from anthem when I go in may :(
-
Rci ...... Not "i"
-
RCCL is my favorite line and NCL is my least favorite line, go RCCL ( but I am sure if you post this on NCL you will get other responses) also read the reviews of both ships, one of the many reasons I hate NCL is there anytime dinning.
yes George ......... Unfortunately I are going the same way.
It's called dynamic dining.
and they're going to introduce on all ships in the near future ......
sorry you old dinosaur !!!
PS. The dinosaur thing was a joke
that's how I'm being treated because
they've got rid of formal gala nights
on Quantum class ships.
-
You're a baby machine !!!!
-
Really silly question......
but does anyone know (before they push my thread out of sight) if there will be tea and coffee facilities on super dooper
anthem of the seas.
yes ....... before you all say it, I know you get room service.
but that's not the question.
Answers on a postcard please ...

Great !! thread starter time !!
-
of course I'll enjoy anthem.
but I'm probably a little like you, my patience wears very thin.
I hate waiting for anything, most of the time, if I know I have to wait, I don't bother.
I'm going to upgrade my drinks package to ultimate too. I think I may need to ;)
as I sit here on my balcony ... watching the boats all pass me on the River just past Vauxhall bridge ..... I keep thinking...... I just can't wait to get on a ship again :) -
my bartender (can't remember his name, but he looked like Alexander oniell) sorted me out a nice little philippino girl ..
what a hero !!
and he did a mean strawberry daquari too !
-
Maybe. With 2 out of the 3 ships in Asia and with a "different" version of DD slated for those, the Anthem might be the only one with the currently advertised version of DD - regular or classic.
I have a feeling that's because the British market demanded it.
hence why anthem won't be coming here again. There probably won't be tea and coffee in the cabins either.
-
@ cruise a holic .......
to be honest ..... The whole "booking a table" thing filled me with dread. and as my cruise will be about the 5th/6th on anthem, it might get messy.
people are saying stop moaning, but it's 3 grand !!
and before people say it yet again ...... yes, I did try to cancel and yes, I did try to change cruises.
and I agree big time about the scruffy thing ......
A load of idiots saying "I want to feel comfortable" .....
-
Not realising they had scrapped formal nights completely.
also ...... I realise people are jumping in in the middle of threads and don't know that I find there is a vast difference between formal nights and formal dining.
I want the formal night not the restaurant :)
certain CC members hit me with their words, so I bit back but not in the Oscar wilde sense.
Apologies about that.
Stitch ..... (still a bit annoyed ... but I'll have a great time anyway)
-
A bit dramatic for sure. Especially since Anthem will have The Grande where EVERY night is "formal night" if you so want it to be :)
hi ryano ...... Thank you .... and everyone for their response.
I am booked on classic 2 which will (should) guarantee 2 sittings in the grande......... but it's the gala night thing I look forward to. Not the dining.
I booked the newest ship in the world and thought it would be the same as the other RCI cruises.
2 formal nights. as my travel agent said, this won't go down well with the British market.
It seems that the general consensus in the American cruise market is "no to formal nights"
Someone else said ...... you can go formal in the grande every night if you wish ....... well how does that work out on a 3 night cruise when 4000 odd people want to eat in there ?
I know a lot of people on here think I'm being stupid about the whole thing, but that's life.
to be honest. I've Been really slated on CC ...... and yes ... I am devastated. But that's me.i booked

My TA had no trouble switching us over to DD Classic late. We are sailing next Spring on Anthem. Can't wait to hear reviews of how this works out.
I'm guessing that DD Classic will be on all Quantum class ships eventually.
I confirmed we are DD Classic late at my C&A Page at Royal Caribbean's website. :)
I will tell you all about it in my review :)
I'm on classic 2 on the 22nd of may this year :)
tea and coffee facilities in cabins on anthem.

I shall update indeed !! I'm just gagging to see the "under 30" days thing pop up on ship mate :)
