How many Formal Nights are there on a 7 Day cruise (and what nights of the cruise are they)? I love Formal Nights so the more, the better!! :D I'm thinking of booking the Freedom of the Seas if that makes a difference.
none on a quantum class ship. so don't bother x
-
If you dine in the Grande Restaurant on the Quantum class ship, it is considered formal. So you can actually pick the nights you want to dine formally (or not).
I don't want formal dining, I want a formal gala evening.
that's what I'm getting at.
-
Is there an echo here?
absolutely .......
They pushed my thread so far away I can't find it.
I think this one has started more pleasant :)
-
Gosh so surprised you haven't got any formal evenings
devastated ...........
This was for my 50th treat .... and no special gala nights to look forward to.
check before booking a quantum class.
All my other rci cruises have been formal, so I wrongly (according to loads of punters) assumed anthem would be the same. :(
-
Anyone that books Anthem of the seas needs to read the gumph thoroughly.
There are no formal nights .... so a bit (extremely) #gutted.
I made the mistake of not researching about the new concept "style" ships.
so please read carefully about all the dining pitfalls etc.
Regards x

so basically I'm saying, if you love your formal nights,
don't book on a quantum class ship :) x

Last year my friend and I enjoyed our first cruise on a Liberty of the Seas and enjoyed every minute especially dressing up for the formal evenings. I did notice that quite a lot of the gentlemen wore dinner suits but I am trying to find out how strict the Cruise line are as my brother in law will be cruising on Allure of the Seas later this year. This question is directed to dining in the main restaurant. Thank you
hi.
I'm so glad you love the formal nights.
its so wonderful, one of the things I look forward to most on a cruise.
I've just booked anthem of the seas and am devastated as they have no formal nights and RCI won't let me cancel or transfer cruises.
-
Do you have any other rants besides this, which has been old old news for quite some time...:rolleyes::rolleyes:
is that the best you can do ????
old news ?????
Sorry ?? has anthem sailed yet ??
Will it come back to the UK ??
no .......
last season ..... funny that

I don't believe for a minute that 50% of the people cruising didn't read the BIG print on the changes made for this ship.
Have a great time onboard Anthem in MAy, would love to read the review on your return to what you expected and what you got.
Also are you expecting a formal night on your mini cruise in October?
show me the big print

Very well said. If he hadn't been so negative and rude, he may have gotten a better response! :)
then let's rewind.
I did get rude and offensive .......
but I felt like someone in the corner with a group of thugs around me.
I fought back ...... maybe not an Oscar wilde approach, but it made an impact.
people need to know about this formal night stuff.
If my TA would have informed my girlfriend (at the time of booking) we wouldn't have booked.
she knew that hence holding back info from us.
I sincerely apologise for offending anyone .......
but the truth be known, I aired, and I got damn bullied in return ........
Please think about that :)

Don't assume it's an error :)
You may just enjoy it...
If you go with an attitude that your going to hate it, then more than likely you'll hate it... if you go with an open mind, and that it's something new, you may have an enjoyable holiday :)
I'm very open minded when it comes to different things.
I wasn't expecting it, and I don't think 50% of the ship will either.
I'm going to make do and have a great time, but although we've got a mini on anthem booked for October, I won't be going "quantum" again :(
-
I'm getting another beer while there's a break.
best get me one too ..... its going to be a long night.
look ..... I've already reside to the fact I made an error by not reading all the small print ....... and it really is small.
so that's cricket !
bummer ....... I'm just glad I didn't book a bloody suite !
-
WOW, what a charmer!
A member of these boards for 8 years, plenty of cruise history, but just assumes a brand new class of ship will be exactly the same as all the others.
I've thick skin, call me any names you like.
thank you :) ...... its a gift :)

There is absolutely no way that I would booked any cruise with out thoroughly researching it first. If you had bothered going to RCI's website you would have known about dynamic dining. You would have known that there is no main dining room. You would have known that there are no shipwide formal nights.
You didn't do your part to educate yourself and now you're complaining. Lesson learned. In the future,
educate yourself before you spend your money.
well maddy ......
In Christ knows how many cruises, I've never had a problem before. But heyho ...... I've made the mistake and there you go.
Thank heavens it'll just be a ship full of annoyed brits that never read the small print ......
The bit that I can't seem to get into your "blinkered" heads is......what has dynamic dining got to do with formal night ?
answers on a postcard please :)

I tried changing my cruise. RCI won't let me and there are no other cruises that have the right amount of days to change it to.
formal nights are special. but not on this class of vessel.
my cruise only got booked a month ago. so haven't been looking at all the gumph since last year.
I like traditional, like they do on their other ships.
I'm entitled to my opinion.
its a lot of money to spend if it's not what you want.
everyone reading this has obviously got a lot of time on their hands to be able to scrutinise blog after blog about quantum class ships.
The girl at cruise.co.uk didn't help, she just dragged the payment out of my girlfriend and didn't explain anything.
It was lucky I checked as she hadn't put on our free parking.
I am obviously airing to the wrong people on here anyway.
-
Well it happens on all the other royal Caribbean ships. so why should quantum class be different.
I wouldn't have booked if I'd have known.
its your choice if you want to go and change back into casual.
I will miss these nights. you won't because you're probably more a shorts and vest type person. But that's up to you ......
-
Did you do any research about the ship before you booked this cruise? I am amazed when people come on cruise critic complaining about things they really should have known.
why would I need to do research on an RCI ship ?
All the rest have had normal dining and formal nights .... why should this have been different ?
you're damn right I'm complaining !!
and swoopy ...... what's dynamic classic got to do with it ??
is everyone else on the ship going to be at dinner in the grande the same day as me ??
I think you're all missing the point !!
-
Really annoyed with RCI.
just found out there are no special formal nights on a 10 night cruise.
What the hell are they playing at ?
-
Will you still be allowed to smoke in the casino on anthem ?
also, are you allowed to smoke on the balconies ?
-
god ...... I hope there's TOPLESS bathing on your ship :)

It's the southern caribbean cruise. San Juan, St. Thomas, St. Kitts, Aruba, Curacao.
I've not been to Aruba or Cuacao so would be open to suggestions in the lines of Shopping/Sight Seeing.
St. Thomas I've been on a cruise to just not RCI so I know the Cable Car is a good choice and I know there is shopping at the Havenport dock but RCI can't tell me what dock we are going to I've asked them a few times now they are not sure and have been unable to get the information. If I knew that I could atleast know what's around the dock and how far it is. Like the Havenport dock I know is a 5-10 min ride by taxi to downtown shopping.
curacao and Aruba.
The water below curacao is the same colour as the drink, great diving.
Aruba has some great shopping and some great diving too.
I nearly let the whole "new dining experience" upset my up and coming cruise. I managed to sort it out with my TA and now it's fine.
Don't blame you for getting upset and frustrated though.

Yes, been to canaries 3 times in May in the last 6 years and to be honest you can get the odd day in high 20's but it is an odd location where temperature doesn't vary much all year but is often cloudy in May.
Sure this year will be different though in mid 30's just for your trip :):)
I'm not really a fan of sunbathing myself, my partner goes golden at the drop of a hat.
After living in Spain on the Costa blanca for 3 years, I found mid march to October too hot for me. The last time I went to the canaries was in 2004. A long time ago.
so forgive me for asking as I had nothing to compare it against.

Formal nights on Anthem
in Royal Caribbean International

The dining pitfalls were ...... are the dynamic dining.
They now have dynamic classic which is more like normal dining.
You obviously haven't read the top bit I had written re research.
hence I thought I'd mention it first.
A formal night is a completely different thing to just putting on a dinner suit and going to a dining room.
I'm obviously totally wrong .... as usual
