  1. 'Formal nights' will never happen on commercial cruise lines unless it was a full ship charter.

Cruise lines don't want to enforce a dress code in the MDR, forget about an entire evening.

Most cruisers today would see 'formal nights' as a form of 'alternative lifestyle'!:D

define a commercial cruise line please bear x

  2. So are you saying that you feel that all passengers should be dressed "extra special" in order for you to enjoy the evening? If so, that is an unrealistic expectation, as not all will choose to participate in an imposed "gala" experience. 50 years ago - maybe. Understanding the reason why is not rocket science either.

it's not imposed ........ its wonderful. but if you chose not to take part, that's your prerogative.

would you go to a pinnacle party ???

Would you dress up for Halloween ??

    Would you do fancy dress

  3. Dynamic Dining should be implemented on Oasis by your cruise next year. With DD there is not a "formal night" as in the past. One of the restaurants (The Grande) will have suggested formal dress every night. All other restaurant will be Royal Caribbean casual every night. At least that's the current plan!

it's a terrible plan ...... well not for the yankee market I suppose.

They prefer to slum around in shorts and baseball caps everywhere ......

so that's fair enough ...... formal nights are getting to be a waste on them really :(

  4. Interesting comment. Could you please explain what you mean?

    explanation ........

A formal "gala" night is an event once or twice on a 10-14 night cruise. where people all look great and all the ladies look exyra special and more beautiful.

formal dining is basically ..... going to dinner in a dinner suit.

now ........ its not rocket science to know the difference is it really.

We don't want the formal dining experience, we want formal nights :)

  5. This is hilarious .........

blocked toilets, cabins full of poo.

no formal nights on quantum class ships.

too much emphasis on robotics bars and fat blokes and waddling women that don't want to look gorgeous on a couple of nights on a cruise.

no topless bathing as the ship is full of prudes.

making you ADVANCE book for restaurants you probably won't end up eating in because you went on pizza overload in sorrentos .......

    What's RCI coming to ???

still ...... They won't have a bad word said about them lol

  6. As mentioned in a previous post, once the Oasis is converted to dynamic dining (likely well before your sailing), formal nights will likely be gone. You can go formal to Grande any night you wish.

what's a formal night got to do with dynamic dining ..... or eating at all for that matter ??? just asking ?

  7. What nights are formal on Oasis Eastern cruise

We sail April 2016 so i know thing might change.

Trying RCI again after many years away

if you like proper formal nights, don't book one of the quantum class ships.

just letting you know for future reference.

They have done away with the formal nights now completely.

  8. So out of the blue totally unprovoked your TA cold called your gf and sold her a cruise?

No ....... I'd arranged her to call the next day due to my bad phone signal at work.

so gf called them ...... then called her back a few minutes later just as she was going into work. Caught gf on the hop and badly insisted payment. The full 3 grand!

  9. The majority of people do know about 'this formal night stuff'. Quantum class are sold as revolutionary, with dynamic dining.

It sounds like you have used a TA as just a booking agent, not as Travel Advisors!

Yes ..... And they made a pigs ear of it ...... hence dynamic classic now.

  10. I guess I still don't get what the big deal is or why it would be worth not booking over. You still have a formal dining room where everyone there will be dressed up with you because they want to be. Which is already more than the other RC sailings where only some people dressed up (which was fine too, but hardly every single person in the dining room). And then, usually the people with late seating are walking about the ship in shorts while the early diners are getting formal photos taken and the early diners are already changed while the later ones are dressed and eating. So you end up with only some of the ship dressed at the same time anyway. Kinda the same end result. I don't get the drama.

I don't expect you to get it really ...... no one else does.

  11. OP sounds like your travel agent didn't communicate properly to your girlfriend. And that is being charitable. Lesson being to do some research before dropping a lot of money to verify the experience matches your desires.

My girlfriend was just on her way in to see one of her advertisers, TA phoned her.

GF more or less got bullied into paying her and explained nothing.

    Renee !! ...... what a git !

  12. Your problem my friend is with your TA and NOT Royal Caribbean or Us.

My TA explained it all from the day I booked in March 2014. You need a better TA.

The big print is that I have seen it on websites, adverts, magazines, tv and at a cruise show where RCCL wasn't even there, it was still being discussed.

    You're absolutely right xx

  13. Don't be devastated.

Don't let what others wear affect how you want to dress.

    Dress formal if you want.

You can make every night of your cruise 'formal night', so enjoy.:D

    Oh bear :(

It's not what people wear ....... its the evening

not the dining ......... its the evening :)

  14. On RCI you don't really see a "gala" formal evening. Most people (from US ports) change from their formal wear into more comfortable clothes after dinner. So the entire ship is not in a formal mode.

Yes ....... that's probably true (what a waste)

But this is England. ...... not America.
