  1. on ncl jewel next week my chocolate loving wife discovered the joy of chocolate excursion from ncl has anyone gone on this or can we go on taxi to factory

    thanks

Yes you can go on your own, the factory is in town so taxi ride time from the pier will be (depending on trafic) about 10 to 15 minutes, here is the link to make advance reservations with a map

  2. We've been to Cozumel many times so this time we'd like to go birding. We don't want to rent a car and go on our own. Does anyone know a birding guide they would recommend? Thinking of hiring for 3-4 hours. We'll be there in January on NCL Jewel.

I know ToursPlaza drivers have attended bird & racoons watchers from Audobon society, maybe they can help you

  3. Going to Cozumel for Thanksgiving. I have bought hammocks there before, but they are not very comfortable. I know some of the locals sleep in comfortable hammocks not the touristy ones. Anybody know where to buy the better hammocks?

best hammocks are at Los 5 Soles, ask for the ones cotton made, some times they dont have 100% cotton but if thet have 20% nylon 80% cotton are good also, if you are using it for sleeping ask for a set of "brazos" (any yucatecan salesperson at the store will know what its "brazos" for the hammock), the "brazos" are use to set it longer when you hang it, a good doble size (can fit 2 person) hammock cost about $60.00 dollars

  4. Video looks fabulous! Thank you for sharing!

We have La Casa en La Playa booked and just saw the Rocky Shores one. We are going without kids this trip so adults only sounds great. Do you get the same things as the main one? There is a price listed for kids so I was thinking it's not adults only. Any insight on the experience would be great! TIA.

Rocky shores is adults only same things than la Casa en la Playa, but the beach is rocky (thats why the name) and you will need water shoes to enter into the ocean

  5. Does anybody have any information on who is really good if we wanted to hire a driver for the day to do an island tour and some shopping?

you can check with Gerry, Marco or Leo at tours plaza

  6. Hipil prices vary depending on the type of hipil it is, and the type and quality of the embroidery.

Basically there are two types of hipiles, the HIPIL and the TERNO . The huipil is the pledge daily , is simpler , the terno is the evening dress three pieces. To be prepared , the terno are more expensive.

to see photos, you can google "yucatecan Terno photo" and "yucatecan Hipil photo"

    prices:

Hand embroidered huipil - Between $ 3,000 and $ 4,500 pesos , depending on the amount of embroidery.

Hipil machine embroidery - can be found from $ 800 to $ 1,500 pesos.

Terno hand embroidery - Between $ 9,000 and $ 12,000 pesos , even little more.

Terno machine embroidery - can get from $ 3,500 pesos.

you can buy it at the women clothing stores inside El Mercado

    exchage rate aprox USD$1.00 X $12.50 pesos

  7. I just read somewhere that the Downtown Central Plaza in San Miguel is closed for the next 7 months, for construction? is this true, and what does that mean for the shopping there in the tourist park downtown?,....are they still open, and can I still walk through it to get to Wet Wendys?

all stores are open, the construction is at the square only, they are going to renovate the gardens, square, fountain, benchs, etc but I read on the newspaper plaza is going to be closed until end of december

  8. Anybody know a good sunscreen brand that is also Reef Safe? I have Banana Boat Sport, but no where on the bottle does it say Reef Safe.

The bottle must say biodegradable on it. Brands that are eco-friendly and biodegradable to marine life are Caribbean Sol, Mexitan, BATAB, Smartshield, Kiss My Face, etc, just check on e-bay or amazon for biodegradable sunscreen

  9. Will there be enough place for all of the ships? It might sound like a stupid question, but I have heard of ships not docking in Nassau, because there was no place left...There are going to be 8 ships while we are there in March!

I thing on december or january, there will be 8 slots to dock ships at Cozumel, becuz Puerta Maya pier will have a 3rd one, I read in the newspaper they began to built it a month ago or so

  10. How bad is it really on that ferry?

Have read many reviews stating sea sickness. Many youtube videos you see a few people pale looking like they might throw up lol.

I live in the island and have been on the ferrys (4 to 6 times monthy minimun) so many times, it is like a 45 minutes fly on a B747, if you dont mind to fly on a jumbo jet, you wont a have a problem, as in flying now and then there is bad weather and there are some turbulence, is about the same in here

  11. We're doing back-to-back cruises in a couple weeks and are wanting to find a liquor store NEAR/AT the port to buy 2 more bottles of wine for embarkation day of our 2nd cruise.

I see online that the Carnival Fun Shops offer bottled wine, starting around $26/bottle - we're looking for less than that...I'll be a slight wine snot at home, but on vacation, I just want something affordable that we can both relax and enjoy.

Any suggestions would be helpful. Thank you!!!

there is a large liquor/wine store at Melgar & Calle 11th named La Europea, (is almost next to MEGA supermarket) check their wines, the brand VINO BLANCO CHARDONNAY UNDURRAGA 750 ML (CHILE) is about USD $9.00, and there are more brands, just take note that prices on their web are in pesos

    VINO means Wine

here is the link to their website:

  12. Has anyone rented a car in Cozumel without going through the cruise line? If so, who do you recommend and how do we go about renting a car or jeep? We would like to ride around the island and look around on our own. We don't want to be stuck in a tour group. Thanks for any help and suggestions.

you can make an advance online reservation at Avis or Hertz or Budget websites, just be sure they have a branch at Carnivals Puerta Maya Pier so you can pick up the car or jeep at the pier where Carnival Dream will dock at, aboat insurance I dont know, maybe another CC member can advise on that

  13. Is there any taxi's that have the handicap lift on it? My husband is in a wheelchair and it would help. Thanks

you can google "This Is Cozumel" and they have Vans with lifts

  14. Hello, My Girlfriend and I were set to sail on Sept. 25th 2014, and we were planning on renting a car once on Cozumel. My question: Is there a dirt road leading to San Gervasio from the main, paved road? and is it safely accessed via rental car?

the road use to to be with a lot of holes but now is ok, it not paved, but is almost a smooth drive

  15. Can anyone tell me what all is included in the price of the entry fee? I know you have to pay extra for the obvious things like the dolphin encounter, etc. What is the price of snorkeling and is the snorkeling any good? What else is there to do there that is included in the price? We always do Paradise Beach but thinking of trying something different this time. Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

on Chankanaab website is the list of activities and places included in the entrance fee

  16. We did a private sailing tour with Cozumel Sailing...it was great. Doesn't sound like the kind of tour that you are looking for...but it was amazing. We would do it again in a heartbeat.

you can check tours plaza, there are many reviews about their drivers/tours at TrpAdvisor

  17. Has anyone used this website before to book an excursion? mycan****ours dot com

The prices look great, but just want to know if it's maybe too good to be true?
