  1. Be a good question for Kletina.

I too saw several reviews on several other boards that spoke of it being closed since last fall. Latest date of a report on one board of someone going there and not getting in was back in March or February. Other boards with more recent reviews were for dining there earlier in 2012.

yes, Sonora Grill is closed since long time ago, the entrance door has a lock and the bulding (pink) looks that it needs paint

  2. never been in Tonitas but The Flamitas on 25th ave between calle 3 sur and Morelos, is a very good suggestion, ask for Mole or Queso relleno or Pozole and be carful with the habanero sauce! as crewsweeper said, there is a blackboard with the menu and prices (in pesos), other restaurant is La Candela in the corner of 5th ave and Calle 4 norte (one block from the waterfront), is a nicer place, good prices and good food also, they serve a deliciuos chipotle sauce and Horchata water, other place like Sabores is Los Chilangos on 10th ave btw calle 11 sur and calle 13 sur (close to Corpus Christ church), is a house with tables in the living room with A/C, good food, low prices but sometimes you have to share the table becuz is a small place. in these restaurants prices are in pesos but dont worry becuz all accept US Money, dollars are as our second currency lol

  3. This was one of the hidden gems downtown. Sadly, I think it closed last spring. I have heard that the cook and manager did occupy the old French Quarter Restaurant/sports bar space on the Plaza (Avenida 5 Sur). But I can't confirm that. And it might still be called the French Quarter. No harm if searching for it. If not open head for Tonitas (Rosada Salas between Avenida 10 and 15) for her pozole or Las Flamitas (Avenida 25 just south of Calle Juan Morelos--2 blocks south of Rosada Salas but before Ave. Joaquin Coldwell). They don't speak english but have several specials on a blackboard and locals come in and pick up food to take home for their comidas.

yes, Sabores is out of service, at first they moved the restaurant service to the French Quater sports bar, but food service there, last for about a month but they dont open for lunch anymore, now is the bar service in the evening as usual and the bars name its no longer the French Quater, they painted the place in blue (was yellow) and has another name

  4. I was just looking at some pictures of Cozumel and noticed horse drawn carrages... anyone know what the cost is to ride in them? For short distances (pier to Villa Balanca or Sunset Beach area), could it be cheaper than a taxi?

from Puerta Maya pier to sunset beach one way they charge $20.00 per carrage but you can bargain.

  5. Hi! I am thinking about doing the Carnival excursion La Casa en La Playa. It looks like it has great reviews. Does anyone have any pics that they can post? Is it worth it? I have been to Nachi Cocom and loved it there, but want to try something different.

they have a FB page with photos and info

  6. It really doesn't matter if it's the same or not. I'm just always looking for that "special place". I can do a nice place with awesome snorkeling (like Chankanaab) or just a beautiful, relaxing day at a beach with the crystal clear blue water and beautiful sand. I'm looking for that little slice of heaven that you only find every once in a while and once you do find it, you know this is it! (So far in Costa Maya, it has been Almaplena, in Cozumel, it has been Chankanaab, in Roatan, it has been Little French Key, in St Thomas, it has been Sapphire Beach). That is what I'm on the hunt for. If there's snorkeling there, it's even better, but not required

in this link you can see Playa Palancar photos

  7. LOL...well, I do have some videos that I had planned on adding. But I still have to work on them. ;)

I have to say, I'm envious of you living in Cozumel. I would LOVE to live there! Are they hiring nurses there? :D

you can add videos in here? wow! I hvae never seen one video at CC, yours will be the firts ones so please do it :D

Im not sure about hiring nurses but I thing you can be hired by the Cozumel tourism departmnet to take care of the Cozumel tread at CC and that could be a better job for you and for all of us in the island :)

  8. is over?? it was the end??? nooooo!!!, please tell us more!! lol, I almost spent my sunday reading you wonderful review and watching your pictures, started to read it today at 11am, 1 hour lunch in between and done it by 5:30pm :) ... ships come and go everyday to the island so is very nice to know how cruisers spent the days when they are not in here lol, thanks a lot for taking the time to do it

  9. Any idea how long it will take to go from Ruins back to INtl Pier via eastern/southern loop? (assuming no stops)

    thnx

if your speed drive is about 80 kms per hour (sorry dont know in miles x hour), about an hour & 15 or 30 minutes, no more than that

  10. Several years ago we had a lovely day at Playa Uvas. One of the best things was a yound lady selling glass necklaces. We bought lots, and have gotten so many compliments, my daughter would like another dozen or so. Anyone know if she is still there?

the name of the argentian lady is Sole, since 3 years ago she moved to Playa del Carmen and sells her glass jewerly in some hotels there

  11. We will be in Cozumel on Oct. 6th and tried hiring Gerry. Since he is booked for that day, Eduardo is giving us another driver. I haven't heard any comments regarding other drivers. Has anyone used any other of Eduardo's men?

    JoFrank:

in this same tread, I found this post about another driver named Cantaro

  12. Hi All!

I was noticing on the Los Cinco Soles website that you are able to order their vanilla, have it shipped to the US and pay with Paypal. I was wondering if any of you have ever done this? I am almost out of my Vanilla with no trips planned. My college age kids swear this Vanilla makes my cookies taste the best! Not sure about that but though I might try to order a bottle and wondered if anyone else has done it. Thanks for any help you can provide, I appreciate it.

    Gretta

I dont think Los Cinco Soles can ship vainilla to the states as liquids are prohibit, but for a GOOD vainilla you can google or look at facebook for Vainilla Molina, they have offices in the states and since 1944 is the BEST vainilla in the market, I know this brand is very good because my grandmother makes home made ice cream and the recipe says Vainilla Molina and since i got married thats the one I buy in the supermarket

  13. May 6th, 2010 was our third time in Cozumel. (DH 32, me 31) decided to do a beach day. We chose to go to Uvas from the recomendations on theses boards. We are very glad that we did. We had an amazing time!!!! We wanted to get away from the crowds, and Uvas definitely was the place for that. We got off the Inspration and had no problems getting a taxi to Uvas. Kiko, was always ready to refill our "Dirty Monkeys" Yum :) We also did the snorkleing tour. Our guide took us to many places that we probably would not have found on our own. We had snorkled the day before in Grand Cayman, and decided the snorkeling was better at Uvas. We also snorkeled on our own later in the afternoon. We did not order any meals, but ordered chips and salsa to much on, and it was great. My husband and I decided that this was the best day on our cruise. Maybe even the best day out of our 4 cruises. We will definitely go back!
