Yeah but what about the poor Romanians.

We had a female Romanian bartender on i think rhapsody. She was so funny, with a dry wit. And made the best old fashion.

It was planned that Navigator would collect the Romanian and Ukraine crew from all ships and that they should have charter flights from Miami on the 16th of May. I am not sure if the exact schedule has held.

  2. I think the Southampton stop for all ships heading there is to fly home the Europeans, Canadians and other remaining crew.

Every time I search I find interesting movements. Carnival has there Breeze heading to Southampton, but then she is now also scheduled to head to Cadiz from there. Spain is still closed to cruise ships so that would almost have to be to the shipyard. Maybe she has workers or supplies for the other Carnival ship at the shipyard.

I think Celebrity Infinity might be doing this now, Anthem might start heading straight to India

That makes sense then. The date they were to meet up is the 20th of May and that is when Infinity is due into Gibraltar. They could also do a charter flight from Gibraltar on that date as needed as well.

It appears Jewel is departing Gibraltar now and will return to meet Infinity on the 20th.

Anthem is just arriving in Bridgetown. I assume not all on board who plan to fly out can fit onto one flight so it may need to be there for a while (Explorer is circling just off Barbados). It was interesting to see at least 4 Carnival ships off the East Coast of Brazil on the way to Port Elizabeth in South Africa. I assumed Anthem may follow that path to India.

It is all getting confusing, but does Anthem not need to be in the MED to pick up the Indian crew from Allure and Jewel from Jewel?

  5. Wamos flight 435 landed in Jakarta this morning and then flew on to Bali and now Wamos 434 is heading back to Madrid from Bali.

Another Wamos flight 435 left Barbados last night and now lifted from Madrid for Jakarta.

It is an interesting twist that RCL are able to do this on aircraft that they own.

The other Wamos flights that lifted from Nicaragua and Havana, Cuba to Madrid would seem to not be Royal Caribbean related, along with the one that lifted to Abu Dhabi. The airline has been used quite a bit by European countries repatriating citizens, even in the early days from Wuhan itself.

Flightaware showed a "Pullmantur" 747 yesterday flight to Madrid from BGI - I assume maybe some crew on that. FA doesn't show any more flights for next two days which would likely take crew.

Wamos, formerly Pullmantur Air, is 19% owned by RCL. RCL owns the aircraft and leases them to the airline now.

They have a 747 heading toward BGI Brigetown from Madrid now and another lifted for Jakarta, Indonesia from Madrid today. They took off from MAD within an hour of each other.

Doubt it, the Spanish, French and Italian gov'ts will decide that.

Add in the EU Shengen treaty zone stating that all member states must open to international travel at the same time and the current focus on domestic and then international travel for only EU citizens and residents. It is unclear when tourism from outside the Euro-zone will even be considered.

  8. Local media in Cadiz has finally confirmed the dry dock for Allure will take place over 30 days starting next week. The dry dock will be mechanical and will not include any work on the cabins. Here the shipyard management is quoted saying it would only be mechanical with nothing on the hotel side.

Google translate will do a pretty good job of translating the article paragraph by paragraph if of interest.

Just curious is there much difference between these 2 ships.  Is 1 better than the other.  Trying to line my ducks up for 2021.

Quantum was the first ship in that class, so Ovation would be a bit newer ship. Otherwise built to same specifications.

The original announcement said The Vision will depart from Miami on May 15, and sail to St. Kitts, Dominica, St. Lucia, Grenada, Trinidad and St. Vincent. Not sure how much of the original plan survives.

Vision can disembark all Indians from the Barbados ships and take on all those from  St. Kitts, Dominica, St. Lucia, Grenada, Trinidad and St. Vincent at Labadee from Adventure and Anthem. Then she can sail to Coco Cay to take on more from the Caribbean if needed and then provision at Miami for the repatriation sailing on the 15th.

Explorer has those that are taking charter flights from Barbados onboard now most likely.

This sounds sorta like what Virgin already had planned.

I have not read much about them. I will check that out. Something along those lines will work.

Technology that functions will really give them a lot of possibilities.  A sushi order could be placed on one's own cell phone and then when you approach the station or enter the Windjammer, your order could be prepared and presented when you arrive at the Sushi station and so on.....

They will find a solution, that I am sure of. I actually think the solution can be a healthier, higher quality option to current buffet options.

I was thinking this too!!!!  This could work

but will need many many small bowls and plates.

My idea is a formed tray with 2 entree sized zones and 4 side sized zones similar to a bento box. The disposable containers could then fit in the formed zones of the tray. If a diner felt the need for more than the already sizable meal they could just start the process again.

  13. Navantia plan to start re-opening has not been accepted by the union or the state.  They had planned to be at 50% of operations on Monday of this week. They would then have been up to 75% by Monday the 18th.

They started work 2 weeks ago on a Spanish frigate. They started back last week working on the Saudi Arabian order. Work on the Carnival ship has not commenced.

I think they will be ready by the end of the month, when I would expect Allure to arrive at the shipyard. There is no official notice of the new contract. The only confirmation has come from Royal Caribbean's side.

Jewel arrives at 5:00 AM on the 14th of May and Allure arrives at 6 AM.  South and Central Americans along with Caribbean crew will leave on a charter flight to Barbados to join those repatriation ships there.

All other non-essential Allure crew will transfer then to Jewel of the Seas and she will meet up with Anthem to transfer the indian crew. Jewel will then sail for Southampton to meet up with those repatriation ships. Other international crew will then fly from London back home.

Posted on other thread that was started up as well.

I assume RCI made some deal with the yard to proceed - @MADflyer usually has good info on the situation there.

What about buffets at hotels? At least buffets for breakfast are the standard all overvthe world.

Half of Spain has been allowed to open hotels this week and all buffets have been ordered be closed. Tourism is still not allowed though, which has caused some confusion.

A Miami Beach luxury hotel has confirmed to me that they will no longer offer any buffet food options.

A large chain of restaurants, Souplantation that also operates Sweet Tomatoes in the United States decided to cease operations this week after having a buffet concept for 42 years.

NCL CEO stated that they would return without buffets in USA today this week.

  16. Allure has just left Southampton and will arrive in Gibraltar on Thursday the 14th of May at 06:00.

Jewell is underway and will arrive at Gibraltar one hour prior to Allure on the 14th.

They state that the Allure crew remaining will transfer to Jewel and then Jewel will meet the other ships repatriating crew in MED prior to sailing to Southampton with remaining crew for flights home.

A charter flight will take South American, Caribbean and Central American crew to Barbados.

No confirmation on Dry dock from Navantia or local media, but Cadiz was one of the regions allowed to go to Phase 1 of Spanish reopening. That allows hotels to open and restaurant terraces at 50% legal capacity.

  17. Port bookings do show the 4 RCI ships at Hawaii in September and October of 2021,including Serenade,  but no cruises have been released yet. Australia is currently looking at a bubble for travel with New Zealand and Australia alone and not allowing international travel for a while. It will be interesting to see how it works out.

I don’t think Royal has any interest in Marella.  Marella is owned by TUI Group.  Royal and TUI group each have a 50% stake in TUI cruises.  TUI cruises has leased The old Splendour to Marella.

Haapag Lloyd was even just sold at 50% to Royal Carribean in February. TUI AG held the company and sold it to the joint venture.

RCL does have a Marine Operations that is over all ships in their fleet including the joint ventures.

I was talking in Swedish with Patrik Dahlgren the Captain of Oasis at the time and he had just been promoted to the position of VP of Operations of Global Marine Operations.

His Bio at the Swedish American Chamber of Commerce gives some information about this. I think the headquarters is in Germany together with Miami.

  19. The EU with Schengen visa is considering something they call a "Covid-19 Passport"

    https://www.schengenvisainfo.com/news/eu-mulls-covid-19-passports-to-restore-tourism-industry/

I talked with a resort hotel on Miami Beach last night about a June stay and they confirmed that face masks will be mandatory in all public areas.

They did confirm that there would be no breakfast buffet and that the issue with the pool would be determined by the local authorities and they could not yet confirm the situation at the pool or beach.

  20. The decision to shut down buffet style restaurants Souplantation / Sweet Tomatoes permanently would seem to be an indicator that the buffet concept will also disappear from the Windjammer.

    https://people.com/food/souplantation-announces-closing-all-restaurants-permanently-coronavirus-pandemic/?utm_source=twitter.com&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=social-share-article

As the decision was based partially on previous FDA recommendations, it would seem that the CDC would follow with it's Vessel Sanitation Program along a similar line. While the CDC's aim is currently focused on gastrointestinal (GI) illnesses, with COVID-19 prevention of respiratory illnesses could be added to this program.
