  1. I took cross stitch on our long cruises last year - didn't get much done - but craft corner was totally the best place to find out all the latest covid numbers and other ships gossip!
  2. Why not just pre-purchase the gratuities - what's the benefit of prepurchasing OBC?
  3. Oh no - not my design! Its Spencer Ogg's weekend bag - I picked it because it matches Air Canada's personal item dimensions - but I've gotta say that the video which comes iwth the cabin taught me an awful lot about bag making (I've made garments for ever but this was only my 2nd bag). Escape-Pod Travel Collection. PDF Sewing Pattern & Video Tutorial – SpencerOgg I like the gusset too - depending on materials it makes it MUCH easier to see inside as it holds itself up when empty.
  4. Perfect - that's all you need to have -the machine will deal with either plug

    Pub menu?

In the Lido so basically available all day
  6. Just check that your CPAP is dual voltage - the EU plug will be 220 V and USA plugs are 110V. This is normally not a problem for electronics (or usb powered things) - just check the back of the cpap or the instructions that it says somewhere it is dual voltage - my partner's is - but from NZ most things that can be carried out fo the country are dual voltage these days
  7. Thanks for this information. I was looking at doing the water taxi transfer as they include luggage storage which works for us as we don't have a flight until 5pm - but its certainly not cheap ($50pp ) Now thinking we might just go with the silver line bus and find somewher to store luggage at south station
  8. Unless it was a dance jacket -which are cut so that they look very badly fitting when a man has his arms down ie not raised in ballroom hold with elbow at almost 90 degrees to the side of the body - you actually can't dance properly with a jacket on. When you see ballroom dancers competing wearing tails or jackets - you will also see them only put them on when they are on the floor - otherwise they are horribly uncomfortable and horrible to look at . Thats why many dancers will wear a waistcoat to dance socially
  9. Your picture shows 2 plugs clearly - there is an EU plug to the left of the US plug
  10. I always use Uber if I can over a taxi. With taxis you pay by the mile and by the time - so if the taxi gets stuck in traffic or takes the scenic route you pay for it. Its really common - even in my home country - we've come off an international flight home - got a taxi and the airport ot a residential route and was asked if we wanted the scenic route - hmmm nah. Uber the price is agreed up front - you see the price - you agree to it and book the ride. If they get lost, get stuck in traffic, whatever you're not paying anything extra. Also its safer - the app is tracking you - knows when you are picked up and by whom. A couple of times I've been seriously nervous it was in taxis
  11. Yup our July cruise the unlimited laundry has jumped from $7/day to $8.5/day - doubt I can justify it at that price
  12. Well I should hope not! In warm weather cruising last year the QE dining room AC struggled even on late sitting- most men removed their jackets

    Pub menu?

They now offer it in the evening not just a lunch time
  14. Not anymore Our packing guide - Ship dress code - Cunard cruises
  15. Actually if anything the smart nights standard has been elevated - it was saying "collared shirt" which includes polo necks now it says "dress shirt" which I assume does not . And the photos look far better than the really out of fashion stuff they used to have. In general I think its far more understandable what the standards are - and my partner will be happy to ditch is suit jacket ofr waistcoat for galas in our next warm-weather cruise
  16. Actually I have a pair of black silk pj pants which have gone to the opera in several countries when I was travelling with only minimal luggage. They've fallen apart otherwise I'd have taken them on Cunard too
  17. Oh you gave me heart failure! Not only can you carry on anything in reason - you can also bring more on in each port. In Naples we could buy Lenoncello right in the cruise port - should have bought more of it!
  18. Fun fact time 1 March 2023 Queen Mary 2 in Darwin Queen Elizabeth Adelaide Queen Victoria Sydney
  19. Thanks I will have a the drugs/patchs with me -I'm hoping we get an inside cabin low inthe ship
  20. Good to know! I'll never cruise my home country or NZ because of those bits of water! I was hoping that our trip up the Maritimes to Greenland and Iceland would be calmer
  21. If she is sailing from Circular Quay - she's not allowed to leave until after 7pm - as they have to briefly pause the commuter ferries to let her out
  22. We were on that cruise as far as Singapore Chania - Greece - the town provided a bus for a few euros which took us right to the centre of town near the Venetian port. We walked down to the port. Highly recommend the museum there - really interesting for us Kiwis as they talk alot about the kiwi involvement in the liberation of Crete. There was a charge but it was only a few euros. This was our first time on crete - next time we are staying for a week and hiring a car. There is nothing actually at the port - so you need to catch the bus or a taxi to get to the actual town. The cruise tours when to various locations up in the hills but we were more than happy with the town itself - its fantastic Safaga /Luxor - we booked the ship's tour to Luxor - left at 6:30am retujrned about 9pm. Its 4/5 hours each way. Well worth doing . Don't buy the expensive water cunard will insist is necessary - the buses have unlimited cold water bottles for you. They also provide a snack box. Safaga is an industrial port - you can't just walk off there. There were excursions to a nearby beach resort. Most of us went to Luxor - I counted about 20 buses. I'd been to Karnak and Valley of the Kings previously - but this trip was well worthwhile. Don't bother paying extra to go to Tutenkahmun tomb - many did - long line/ very underwhelming (he died young - his tomb is not as fancy as many). The cruise tour includes the other tombs which are open on the day (they are rotated to minimize damage) Oman/ Salalah - also an industrial port -you can't walk off from. We were there on a Friday so obviously the market was closed (which didn't stop Cunard selling the tour! ) Most tours were similar - we did the one to the blowholes and Job's tomb. The interesting bits were the camels just walking across the road - we got the driver to stop so we could get photos - the local guide was amazed we found this exotic LOL. The guides are pretty much amateur hour - but are willing to be helpful. They opened the national museum just for us (Friday usually closed) - it was well worth going to. I'm confident doing stuff independently - but Salahal is worth a ship's tour. Those that got taxis to the (closed) market were charged up to about US$50 each way Singapore - they had the usual suspects - but here you can easily do your own thing - we've been many times - for first timers I strongly recommend taking the subway to Gardens by the Bay and expect to spend hours there. The cruise terminal is about 15 min walk to the nearest subway (covered walkway) - you can use the system just by tapping on and off using a contactless card - it gives you all the discounts at it seems to work out to be $5/day (that was a 90 min trip to Malaysian border and back) Hope this helps
  23. I think that's what going to swing it - we are having to pack for climates ranging from Boston in July to Greenland - so it a bit of a compromise all around LOL
  24. Found it Yes its pretty bad! I now have a toss up between going the daily charge on the bag charge. The daily charge is attractive as we hoping to keep our luggage down to carry on only
