  1. Lois - i like the sweater you chose! Sherri - wow - river cruise! i think you are smart to add those short sleeve Ts into the mix, especially since you are going to layer if you have to. Got my modera Bivalent vax yesterday. Word must have gotten around town that the Walmart was getting in a shipment yesterday morning - it was crowded. In and out took about 20 minutes. Poor pharmacist was bouncing between vaxes and prescription stuff. Got the vax in my left arm since it got sore from the pneumonia vax the other day - if it was going to get sore, might as well keep it in the arm. Happily, no pain, no swelling and I had no after effects 24 hours in. i'm all good and fully vaxxed now, ready to encounter my Winter Season guests! I do have to go out sometime today to pick up carrot, celery and some parmesean rind. i'm making ribolitta tonight. I got everything else, but forgot about those 3 things. oops. Brain fog. Usually i remember everything I need for it from memory. OOTD: maybe I'll switch it up and put on one of my Athleta cargo pants - my jeans need a rest and a wash, Probably a long sleeve Tshirt and then my hi tops.
  2. Cleobella - there are soo many different styles of pizza in Italy, just like in the US and Canada (happy Thanksgiving today!). Pizza that I've had in Rome and enjoy; B onci Pizzarium. across the street from the Ciprio metro station. Known as one of the best pizzas in Rome. it is a rectangular pie and sold by weight of the size of the slice you show them. The pizza there have a wide variety of toppings (don't expect sausage & pepperoni). Always busy, always crowded. Antico Forno Roscioli. in the Campo di Fiore area. Similar to the pizza style at Pizzarium. The Roscioli family bakes the bread for most of the high-end restaurants in Rome. Emma Pizzeria. in the Campo di Fiore area. They get their flour specially mixed by the Roscioli family. Round, pizza done in wood-burning ovens. A large selection of topping combinations. It's a moderate-range dining spot, reservations needed. Has other things besides pizza. All 3 places have websites which you can look at.
  3. Definitely! I made a grilled cheese sandwich for the dinner. used comtè cheese, balsamic carmelized mushrooms & onions and a smidge of my chili spread/sauce. just the right amount of heat! The candy is looks like a Tic Tac, but is hardshell with strong licorice in it. Have to go out in search of Fregola this week. I wish someplace around here did octopus so I could grab a piece and add it to the fregola. Alas, it'll be shrimp.
  4. I only did a little damage. I had been thinking of getting a toaster oven/air fryer for awhile. I had it down to a cuisinart TOA-60 - small enough for my counter and decent reviews. Everywhere around here didn't have it. i knew Amazon had it and I waited to see if it was on Early Access. Bingo! 55% off, only $103. My left arm is feeling much better today. I couldn't sleep last night until the Advil kicked in. 5 hours of sleep is better than none.
  5. Sherri - gooe to know you're feeling better. Keep an eye on your cough!!! My sign - I picked it up in 2020 from Etsy. I just have to put something over the "2020" on the sign before I put it up, The pharmacist did warn me about the pneumonia shot, so I wasn't surprised. The arm still hurts, though. i sleep on my stomach and alternate left & right arm under my head so it isn't surprising that it still hurts. I'll just pop some Advil tonight. Food for Stanley this week could be problematic. Been looking it up and don't recognize anything. Fregula sounds familiar, a tiny pasta kind of like Israeli couscous. if i can find it, maybe I'll make a regular salad with pesto and maybe shrimp...
  6. I have them always in my toiletries bag so I don't even think of them. In any case, if something happened, those are 2 things I could just pick up at a store in port.
  7. Feeling a little punky today. When i was at Walmart yesterday, I stopped by the pharmacy to ask if they had the bivalent modern booster - not until Wednesday. I went ahead and got my mega-dose flu shot. the pharmacist saw that I didn't have a new pneumonia shot, so he asked if i wanted it, too. What the heck, I got both. The right arm feels OK, but my left does feel sore and looks like I stung by a bee. And, I've got a headache. What we go through to not get sick!! I went to the liquor store and did pick up my prosecco. I also picked up a few random cans of wine, lambrusco, and sours. The cans are becoming popular and I wanted to taste some of them. I got my dog collar, leash and 2 unicorn capes for my Halloween decoration. The unicorns are a little too big for my flamingos - i'm going to put some bubble under it to make it fit better. I also need to bring out my "Grab them by the Ballot" sign to bring some election levity. Remember - it's Stanley Tucci tonight!!
  8. Sounds like the critic is the 'spaghetti and meatballs" kind of person. Probably a 'chow mein' kind of chinese food person, too. Not adventurous. Gotta say - largo on a nice piece of bread is yummy. i've got my Aperol, prosecco, Calabrian hot chili pepper sauce and Calabrian licorice candies ready!
  9. My first thought is that you can catch the Leonardo express train at the airport and go into the city.
  10. thanks. I looked uphill and didn't see anyone coming so i stopped on the road and did a quickie shot! I wish I could have taken a shot of how the color changes due to the type of tree at altitude - yellow & green of the aspen and pines down to red & green down lower. SLC is getting up to date. Tiffany's, Louis Vuitton, Free People, Tumi are relatively new. and the other one i go to has Crate & Barrel, Sur la Table, and some high-end men's barber shop. I heard yesterday on the radio that the dessert place on my Main Street was evicted at the end of Sept and is being replaced by a Kemo Sabe über high-end Western store (from Aspen and Jackson Hole). Now all the tourist ladies are going to make like the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills and buy a $500 cowboy hat 🤠. i'd love to get a hatband from there, but even those wre out of my price range. OOTD: jeans and a long sleeve Tshirt - going to get to the mid-70s today so I'll be pushing up the sleeves a little later. I have to go to Walmart and pick up a puppy collar and leash to put on my skeleton wolf/dog - my addition to my Halloween display, he's going to be pulling the skeleton sled with my little skeleton driving... The wolf/dog makes a howling noise when it detects movement so he's been startling people walking past - love it! OH, and I have to go to the liquor store to pick up a bottle of prosecco to have for Stanley tomorrow night!
  11. OK. I got the pix transferred to my MacBook. Here's just a couple of my faves. Sharon - i'm lucky that SLC has 3 Apple Stores. I took the first class at the store that's in a mall. The guy teaching the class actually recommended going to the downtown store for the architecture class because they walk around the neighborhood. But, even in a bland mall you can look for dimensions, little features, an interesting wall pattern... Oh, a sign that SLC has hit the 'big time" - a Hyatt Regency is being built downtown and the Chicos in the downtown mall has been replaced with a Louis Vuitton 🙀
  12. Lois - I like the flowered jeans. They probably call them that because they are jeans cut, not because they are denim. You are going to have a good time and look sharp!! i had a good leaf peep. I just drove up the hill from where I work to the pass and down the other way. Stopped and did a little walk in an aspen grove. Further down the aspens were replaced by oaks - beautiful coral and scarlet colors. unfortunately, no place to pull over on that stretch of VERY narrow, no berm road. But I did get some good shots in the aspens. When i get a chance later tonight, i'll put up a couple of them. The road road ends in the town where I get my oil changed. drove by and there was no one in line!! Since I was going to go there tomorrow, i went in and came out 15 minutes all done. Usually there are cars waiting, so I was really happy.
  13. Sorry Sherri. Those home tests can be a little messy on not generating the right result. I think you are right for going 'presumptive positive." That's what my company had me to last year when we were all sick but i didn't test positive. Take care! going to do a little leaf-peeping today and maybe use some of my newly-learned iPhone skills. i just have to peel myself away from the TV; watching 'Welcome to Wrexham', a documentary series by Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds on the Welsh soccer team they bought. Even if you don't like soccer, it's good watch. it's about the entire little town and the people, not just soccer.
  14. The iPhone "Framing Architecture" class was soooo good. I was the only one so it was 90 minutes of personal instruction. we walked around part of Downtown Salt Lake City for the class. Dave had me looking at more than just the building or fountain, but look all around for interesting lines everywhere. Learned how to do a Panoramic shot. Downtown has such diverse architecture, from red rock buildings from the pioneer days, to the old Temple, office buildings from the 60s to today, trying to get modern but still keep the original mormon base. Here are a couple of my favorites from today. Next up will be one of the portrait classes. Ended up stopping by TJs on the way back home and picked up some salad makings and soups for the weekend. OOTD was my jeans and my white henley Tshirt, pink hi tops and my latest Gigi Pip hat (the Zephyr in Creme). Classy old hippie lady 😸
  15. Thanks for coming back and giving a review! One weird question: There was a sinkhole that opened up in front of the Antico Salumeria in 2020. it ended up showing some ancient ruins. What is there now? Sitting at an outdoor table on any piazza, drinking aperol spritz or nice little wine and noshing is one of ny favorite activities anywhere in italy!
  16. I also use the Tru Earth wash sheets. both home and traveling. I can split 1 sheet into quarters for a sink wash. I'm also a "if I can't wash and hang dry, it doesn't go with me" person. Did 31 days in Europe this summer with just my carryon. Did a month working at a hotel in Hilton Head a few years ago and did my laundry in the sink. I'm one of those who don't mind. But, some aren't. That's the way it is. I won't judge 😸
  17. Mr Toblerone - keeping you in good thoughts. Enjoy the lake trip. Whistler is an awesome place. There is so much to there besides just skiing/riding. I'll keep thoughts that your trip goes through. Today's my iPhone Architecture class. looking forward to it! Maybe it's over around 4pm, so I might scout out a place for an early dinner. I eat downtown, really down in the Valley, very rarely so it'll be fun. Nice weather for the rest of the week, highs around 70 up here. It'll be a 'sweatshirt in the morning, Tshirt in the afternoon" kind of few days. OOTD: I'll put on jeans and a Tshirt for the trip down the mountain since it'll be around 78 or so in the Valley.
  18. Sherri - glad you got home ok but bummed about your DH. I'd have him go to the md and get some of the covid meds - i think it's called Paxloid or something. Taken within 5 days, it's supposed to help. With all the coughing you heard - now you know why in feel like i need to have a 'this is not a covid cough' sign around my neck when I go out. 😸 Didn't go leaf-peeping. i had a little issue that i had to take care of - my bottom sheet on my bed ripped! I had to go out and find new sheets. it wasn't as easy as i thought. The Bed Bath and Beyond down the road was woefully unstocked from the last time i got sheets there. But, with necessity and not being able to order online, I ended up just picking one of the 4 King sets they had and only using the bottom. Maybe i'll go online and find something nice, but I'm not in a hurry now. OOTD: 56 in the house in the AM, so joggers and a sweatshirt. I'll switch later to a Tshirt when it warms up in the house - got up to 65 yesterday (when the heat is on, i keep it at 66 daytime, 61 night).
  19. First - good to hear things went OK for your property with Ian. When i saw that he was swinging right over the Space Coast I thought of you, Sherrie, and my friend who has property in Cocoa Beach. So, so sorry you had to cancel your Glacier trip. i hope both you and your DH get everything fixed up on the bodies. At least you got most of your money back for another time. Eugene - hmmm. Have you done a So. OR/No. CA shoreline trip before? Did it once and had a great time. Added in Crater Lake, too. And, Redwood National Park and all the beach camping and state parks along the way.
  20. Finally heard from the South Carolina family contingent. Other than being without power, all is good. Looking at the teaser for Stanley's Season 3, the woman at the very end who is eating pasta with him is the daughter of one of the women who guided me with restaurant suggestions on my first trip to Rome and to Florence (Elizabeth Mincelli). This was back in the day when Chowhound was pretty active and got input and questions answered from all sorts of folks. Hope all went well with Cynthia's flights to Europe!! Lois - my MD and NP both retired to I had to find another. I'm not totally thrilled with my current NP but I've gone to that office since i moved here in 1988 so I'll endure her. If either of my old providers had moved down into the Valley instead of retiring, I would have driven down to see them. OOTD: lazy day with a little more cleaning, so joggers and a Tshirt. Tomorrow i may try to get up to the mountains to do a little leaf peeping. I have to choose between going up to the Uintas or down to the Alpine Loop. But, it'll be my camping pants and a fleece since it's in the low 50s/upper 40s in the mountains now.
  21. The TGV train from Avignon to CDG 2 is direct but non-stop. You don't have to change trains, just stay onboard until the train reached CDG. I took the TGV from CDG2 to Marseille in July. The train stopped several spots, including Avignon. You'll be fine.
  22. That is in my top 5 churches I've visited around the world! I go there every time I'm in Rome. Also inside at the main alter is the tomb (minus her head - another story) of St. Catherine of Siena. The church is indeed very plain from the outside, but is magnificent inside.
  23. It's from my old Girl Scout and backpacking days. Working at the resort hotels, the duct tape was used by many a bridesmaid to fix things. i just roll some on a pencil and toss in the bag. I still follow the "Be Prepared" motto 😸
  24. Little update: my friend's caretaker of the house and cottage down in Cocoa Beach just told me "things are a mess, but it'll be OK." She has a lot of tropical landscaping around the property and they most likely lost fronds, etc. Still haven't heard from the S. Carolina crowd other than my grand-niece posting "so far, so good." A friend of mine up here told me about the annual Planned Parenthood fundraiser in November. it's a 'gala drag' theme, with drag performers, comedians and bands. Suggested attire is "Drag optional, glitter requested, pink preferred." good thing the ticket is too expensive - i have NOTHING to wear!!! I guess I could go drag as a guy - i saw a gorgeous rainbow-sequined jacket on one of my websites - pair the jacket with black pants, pink Tshirt and my black fedora 😸 But the jacket and T would cost more than the $150 ticket!!! just got an email from the boss, asking me if i want to come back. i said "absolutely." so, I start 12/2 with my usual 11-7 shift and Wed/Thu off. so I have 2 more months of play time.
  25. Get your Italian snacks and aperativos ready!! Rumor is that Stanley will visit Puglia, Sardinia, Liguria and Calabria. When it airs on the 9th may be dependent on your location's CNN timing. Buon Appetito e Buona Visione!!🍷🍕
