  1. I don't think it's offense at all...just redundant. The first couple of replies stated it has been this way for some time and then @Cruise Suzy pointed out where it was. No offense meant, was just wondering is there was some meaning I was missing.
  2. I'm not sure why you posted this. I think everyone on this thread agrees that HAL does this and it's disclosed. Was there some specific point you were trying to make?
  3. $60pppd isn't standard at all. I just got off a RCCL cruise and they held $200. Carnival did the same. I can't remember what Celebrity and MSC do, but it was something similar. I've never heard (until now) of a line charging $60pppd. Again, no one is questioning if HAL discloses this or not. But the reality is, if you are used to having things work one way, you don't always read every detail. And that is what makes CC invaluable - to me at least. When I got ready to check in, maybe I would have read it and maybe I wouldn't have. But now I know and am prepared.
  4. The *great* think about cruise critic is you learn stuff. I've never sailed HAL before, so had no clue about this hold. While it won't be a problem for me personally, I would have been *pissed* when I found out about it. Now I can slowly absorb the info and when I cruise it won't bother me at all 🙂 It's sort of like when I found out they count non-alcoholic drinks in the 15 drink limit. My first reaction was to be upset, but then I calmed down. I even learned some ways to mitigate this (from cruise critic posts). To me, it doesn't matter if it's been this way for 10+ or even 20+ years. If you are used to sailing on other lines that don't do this, it isn't even something you would think to look for. IMHO, this is *exactly* what makes CC great. Thanks for the info.
  5. It's official official now...you still have to pay $40pp, but no longer required to test...(for 10/25 and later...)
  6. You still have to pay the $40 but don't have to test. I know we've all know this was coming, but now the cruise lines are updating their websites so it's "official"
  7. Yeah, sometimes people here are just jerks instead of trying to help people. And sometimes people make replies they think are cute instead of, again, just trying to help.
  8. I didn't see that, but I don't understand that...7 days are cycled for sure...
  9. To be clear, I'm asking is the menu for days 1-7, repeats on days 8-14
  10. Is it possible to purchase the unlimited laundry once you're onboard (and use OBC for it?). Also, is the price per bag still $30 (for Europe)? TIA
  11. Hi, I'm sailing on a 14 day Nieuw Statendam sailing...is the MDR menu just the normal 7 day repeated twice? TIA
  12. Hi, I was wondering if taking an excursion that sails the fjords (on a much smaller boat) gives that much of a different experience than sailing into/out of the fjord on a cruise ship. There are (obviously) a lot of things I want to do on each stop, so trying to determine what, if anything, I'd miss if my only time on the fjord was on the ship. Also, for anyone who has kayaked the fjords, any feedback on that would be welcome. TIA
  13. I also had the same question...I asked it in another thread and @rodndonnareplied they could.
  14. I was wondering this too. Thanks for an actual answer instead of snark.
  15. Yes you know or yes you can use them? 🙂
  16. Does anyone know if the gift cards can be used to pay for the air portion of your cruise (if purchased through HAL, of course)?
  17. Celebrity put something on their website basically stating they know B has changed the rules but B asked them to wait a few days as they are still working out details.
  18. I can only speak for Avis, but with Avis their location is about 5-10min from the port (and a zillion gas stations right next to it). For pickup from the port they have a shuttle waiting right where you walk out. For drop off, you drop off at their location and then take a shuttle to the port. The shuttle driver loads your luggage and then at the port takes it out and gives it to the baggage handlers. Assuming you have your luggage tags on, you just need to verify your luggage is there and tip everyone and then walk onto the ship.
  19. Agree with this. It also allows you to pick a hotel virtually anywhere since you can easily drive to the port. We did this twice with Avis and they have it down to a science...extremely easy and their (free) shuttle drops you off right net to the baggage porters. I'm sure National (and the others) are the same. That being said, we had a rather complicated journey last month (2 cruises, amusement parks, and visiting friends). We did the car thing twice, but also used Happy Hour Shuttle when we landed (to get to our hotel) and when we left. They were super fast and reasonably priced (private shuttle was approx $100).
  20. I generally arrive a day early. But lately have been booking air through FBC and am comfortable arriving day of. But if you aren't going with the cruise air, definitely arrive a day early. Especially now when it seems like virtually all flights are delayed or worse (cancelled).
  21. I know this thread is primarily about the Edge, but the other E class ships (Apex and Beyond) I think "fixed" the wind problem on the MC. I haven't sailed the Edge, but on the Apex I didn't find it windy. I remember reading an old post here (or somewhere) about a few architectural tweaks the Apex did and that was one of them.
  22. I find this thread fascinating. My wife and I are in our late 50s and we only have one X sailing under our belts - Apex last Feb. But we liked it so much that we booked 4 more (Beyond in a couple of weeks, Apex again next Feb, Edge in Oct 23 and Ascent in Feb 24). We were among the youngest on the ship. We found it very quiet compared to Carnival and Royal. And we *loved* the martini bar (but hey, we also like the IV cabins...I'm afraid of heights and this was a way for me to have a "balcony" without a true balcony...also gave us extra space in the room...but I 100% get why some don't like it). The Apex was hands down the most beautiful ship we'd been on and also had the best food. Before this our favorite ships were MSC/Yacht Club. All of that being said, so many people talk about the other X ships that I think we will eventually try them also...but the Edge class ships are perfect for us. But now I'm wondering if our one good experience was an outlier - hopefully not 🙂
