  1. Unfortunately there’s nothing on Seabourn’s fall 2019 schedule I like.

Like you, we sail based on itinerary. We love Azamara and have another cruise booked with them in 2020. We were on our first Seabourn cruise a year ago and it was a step up from Azamara, so we're cruising with them again this fall in Canada. Both are very fine experiences. As long as you understand you are taking a bit of a step down (but not nearly as far as Celebrity), I think you will very much enjoy the ship. Especially if you like interacting with the officers, you'll find Azamara in a class by itself. You should try it.

  2. quoting from Chairsin’s post last fall:

“I will quote from the planner I just received for our Feb cruise

    Attire During the Day

“Casual resort-style attire, including jeans and shorts, is welcome in all lounges and dining venues. Swimsuits, brief shorts, cover ups and exercise attire should be reserved for poolside, on deck or the fitness center

Attire for Evenings - after 6PM attire on board will be one of the following:

    1. Elegant casual

Men : slacks with a collared dress shirt or sweater., jacket optional

Ladies: slacks/skirt, blouse pant suit or dress

This is the Dress standard for all dining venues.

Jeans are welcome in all dining venues during the day.

Jeans are not appropriate in the Restaurant after 6PM

    2. Formal

    In the Restaurant

Men: Tuxedo, suit or slacks and jacket required

Ladies: Evening gown of other formal apparel

Dress in other dining venues is Elegant Casual

So this means no polo shirts (as they are not collared dress shirts) and no shorts- even nice sip ones.. I will say that I have seem some people get away with dressing in shorts and polo shirts at the Patio Grill at night. “

On our fall Med cruise nice short-sleeve collared shirts, such as Hawaiian shirts, were commonly worn in the MDR in the evenings on non-formal nights.

  3. One other issue, this one perhaps too close to home. I've been to several Cruise Critic Meet & Mingles in otherwise public areas that were closed to anyone but those of us invited to the event.

  4. We apologize for any confusion that occurred onboard and online regarding our beverage packages and complimentary cocktails. We have not removed any complimentary cocktails and mixed drinks from the bar menu, it has always been a suggested list of cocktails that can be made by our bar staff, and we are always happy to make any cocktail that can be made with the inclusive spirits.

I knew you would get there eventually. We'll be booking our next cruise with you early next week. Thanks for dealing with all the anxiety, from all fronts.

  5. We have decided to upgrade because we mostly drink vodka martinis.

I would suggest you not do so in advance. If you're doing so simply to make sure a basic vodka martini is covered, you should wait until you're onboard and try to order one. No difference in price whether you buy the package now or once the bartender says she'll have to charge you for the martini.

  6. On our present sailing, Kobe to Vancouver, most men wear jackets with striped dress shorts in the evening, almost a uniform but they look good. We had many tuxedos on our first formal night but the ladies wore knee length dressy dresses. I don’t recall any ankle length dresses. The restaurants are well air conditioned so the men are comfortable in their jackets

Sorry, am I missing something? Sport coats over shorts?!?

  7. As it happens I was logging onto this thread to respond that it is going to be +/- a few days until I can answer uktog’s question. As soon as I know more I promise to back here.

Thanks. I just don't understand how standard, classic cocktails [like a Manhattan, Old Fashioned (can you tell I live in Kentucky?), martini, gin & tonic, and Scotch & soda] are not covered when more elaborate (i.e., bizarre!) drinks are.

  8. Sorry for the delay...I’m looking into this. Hope to have an answer for uktog by EOD.

Please don't rush too much. I am on the verge of booking the longest and most expensive cruise I've ever booked with Azamara. I'd rather the information be correct than rushed and have to be corrected later.

  9. However, if you must cling to shorts, then I’d suggest SeaDream, where most meals are taken al fresco and the dress code is resort casual, which lends itself to some eccentricity of dress.

Another option, a step below Seabourn or SeaDream but a clear step up from mainstream lines, is Azamara, which does allow shorts in its casual restaurants.

  10. I just checked. Sojourn's schedule for early 2020 is not out yet. That ship apparently is now the "grand voyage" ship while the other 4 do the 1, 2, or 3 week cruises in the Jan-March period. So if that's your interest watch the website periodically.

    Happy and healthy sailing!

Thanks. Wondered where all the southern Africa trips went. I just need to be patient.
