Thanks, and I have to agree, I also had a bit of sticker shock when I saw the grand total at checkout! 😬 If I recall, I believe the 18% is added at the end, and not part of the advertised price up front.
Okay, so you don't pay ahead online when you make the reservation? Because it does list a pp price in the app (~$36 right now I believe). Is it just a reservation pre-cruise, and payment is made onboard once you dine?
Sorry for the confusion..
I'm also new to RCI, and am still trying to learn the various nuances of their DBP. When you mention 'pre-18% service charge', and if we have the DBP, that 18% service charge is factored in with the price of the drink, do I have that right?
Because, I recall that I paid the 18% service charge at checkout when I purchased the package.
@JustUs275If you do give it a try, please let us know how it goes. Similar to what poocher described, we're planning to book Izumi online for dinner in a few weeks for a future sailing, so would be interested in how it works.
This is not unique to RCI. All cruise lines have their steadfast loyalists, who continually lament the 'downgraded experience' with their cruise line of choice.
Semantics.. And don't ask me why they bother having guidelines, that's a question for the cruise line. But the fact that they do have guidelines indicates to me that they hope people choose to respect them.
Enforcement or not is a whole different subject, which doesn't negate the fact that there are published official guidelines which should be respected IMHO.
At some point you'll learn what the various 'hot button' topics are in this cruise forum. Short pants in the MDR is definitely one of them (has been for years). 😉
Do any of you RCI/EOS veterans know when the 2 'formal nights' (or whatever RCI calls them) might be on this 9-night itinerary?
Day 1 - Miami (depart 4:30pm)
Day 2 - Sea Day
Day 3 - Puerto Plata (depart 3pm)
Day 4 - St. Thomas (depart 7pm)
Day 5 - Antigua (depart 4pm)
Day 6 - Grenada (depart 5pm)
Day 7 - St. Kitts (depart 7pm)
Day 8 - Sea Day
Day 9 - Sea Day
Day 10 - Miami (arrive 6:30am)
I'm guessing the 2nd one will be on the evening of day 8 (sea day). As for the first one, would it likely be on the first sea day (day 2), or some other day (all port days)?
I realize it's up to the captain of the ship, and anybody's guess. But my experience on other lines is that they can usually be predicted with some success based on itinerary.
Thanks!
