  1. I have to agree, each time I see pictures with those couches I think it seems very strange. If this was the old days of cruising where you had 3 or 4 or more places to go for evening entertainment then it might make sense, but when this club is one of only a couple options I'm not sure what they were thinking. Did they really expect it to be a causal crowd like one would have in their living room?
  2. Looking forward to the review - we get on in Miami when you get off on the 13th.
  3. OP wasn't asking for yours or anyone else's sympathy. They were asking for advice. Some people have the wherewithal to self-insure. That does not make them fools. (not to mention personal attacks, and saying @Chaz212 is foolish is a personal attack, are not allowed on these boards)
  4. @da1425 If you didn't purchase insurance for this trip, check your credit card to see if that offers any trip insurance coverage. Their coverages tend to be minimal, but, even a little something is better than nothing.
  5. Thank you. I think the only times we've flown Spirit (including this upcoming November trip to get to Miami) we've purchased The Big Front seat outright. It's one of the better deals in the sky. But that is probably why we were never exposed to this idea of bidding on the "upgrades".
  6. Interesting. What airlines have a bid process for upgrades?
  7. Was it an NCL Ship or some other line that had a window from I think the floor above the bridge that looked down and into the bridge? for some reason I was thinking it was the Getaway or Dawn, but maybe it was a CCL ship I was on (whose name I don't even remember at this point).
  8. Many (perhpas most?) don't know and quite likely don't care where their OBC comes from. all they know is their TA told them they would get $X in OBC. The OP (remember the OP? This thread should be about what the OP asked) just stated "OBC". I'd bet an overpriced Baileys that the OP doesn't know or care where it came from. This statement of yours is misleading at best: The distinction is very important, it is the point others were trying to make and you seemed to be dismissing.
  9. That's not correct. Imagine this scenario: DSC for the week is $100 (work with me here) TA provided $100 Non-refundable OBC I made no other charges to my on board account In that scenario, at the end of my cruise my credit card will be charged $100 to cover the balance due on my account.
  10. You may want to search for Gem trip reports and look for the Freestyle Dailies for an idea of what kind of classes they offer.
  11. We're also looking at the Baltic itineraries. I've been on Dawn when it was based in Boston doing Bermuda runs, we really enjoyed the ship. NCL is a mass market line, like Celebrity, Royal, Carnival, etc. Good and bad, just as with all those lines.
  12. Some of the best meals I have ever eaten have come from a banquet hall that I have experienced multiple times where they served about 600 covers in one sitting. Once you get to that volume, it doesn't matter if it's 600 or 6000, it's just a matter of scale. So serving several thousand people is no excuse for poor quality. And has been said, the specialty restaurants are not serving thousands. And yes, for the money we are paying I do in fact expect good quality meals. So long as NCL advertises fine dining, that is what I expect. I know I'm not going to get it, I don't let it ruin my cruise, but that doesn't mean I'm going to quietly accept mediocrity. And this is not an NCL issue, all the mass market lines say and do the same things. I agree 100%. Also, I thought one of the advantages of a Churrascaria is the ability to serve all degrees of doneness off the same skewer. Obviously, if they don't know what they are doing they could easily overcook all the meat defeating the purpose. I've eaten at the two big chains in the US, Texas de Brazil and Fogo de Chão. I find Moderno to be below that quality. I typically tell people if you like either of those, Moderno isn't as good. I've never had the pleasure of a non-chain Churrascaria.
  13. agree 100%, exactly what I thought when I saw it: I'd be sending them back to get the rest of it.
  14. Are you saying a couple these won't do the trick?
  15. I agree. The furniture they have make no sense for a night club and of course, there is so little of it. I'm sure there is a reason, something they are trying to accomplish, but I don't know what it could be.
  16. I have no doubt you were told that, I do have doubts that NCL would have actually rebooked if it was a simple delayed flight. Wouldn't be the first time an NCL call handler gave bad information. We'll never know.
  17. Yes, it is. My budget has only $4 left to spend. So that means I only get my evening Bailys on 4 nights. Going to totally ruin my cruise. Or else I blow my budget and lose my house.
  18. I think you'll find it's pretty much the same quality on all the mass market lines.
  19. Have you guys heard that Baileys is NOT included in the drink package? That's right, they are charging $16 for it so you have to pay a buck if you want Baileys.
  20. As was said once about a different topic, I don't think I can define "classic CC member", but I know one when I see one.
  21. Lots of good information over in the Florida Departures Board: https://boards.cruisecritic.com/forum/386-florida-departures/
  22. Yeah, I've seen this discussed elsewhere. Doesn't make sense that they would expect only 100 of the potentially 3100 people on board to want to see the comedy shows.
  23. My initial thought when reading this post was that you forgot to metnions ".. all for a fee". But after looking at the pictures, maybe not? So, are all the games in the Stadium free or is there a fee?
  24. Has nothing to do with Covid. ALL of the mass market lines have lowered food quality and that long predates Covid. Your Golden Corral reference isn't far off, IMO. My opinion is they are more like Applebees or other national chains and quite frankly Applebees fits a large segement of NCLs demographic so not surprised that so many think it's good food. And I have no axe to grind either. I've got one NCL cruise booked for November and we're actively discussing another for next spring. I know the food quality is low and I set my expectations accordingly.
