  1. Good morning Daily-ites

Thank you @kazu for the Fleet Report. I sure wish we could get better news on your foot. I would certainly let your salon know what's going on. Never worry about griping. We love you and we're here to help.

Prayers lifted to all on Vanessa's finely tuned cares list. Vanessa, especially adding your BFF in prayer. Sandi @StLouisCruisers: How is your brother doing?

I really wish I had my phone with me when I took Oliver out this morning. A rabbit started chasing Ollie around the yard! Ollie thought it great fun. The bunny slipped through the fence and Ollie sat awhile hoping the bunny would return.

Yesterday I took a bag of lawn fertilizer, my spreader, and carpet cleaner to my GF house. I fertilized her lawn, and set up the carpet cleaner for her. She gave me a 20 pound bag of bird seed as a thanks. She helped me last week when my battery on the car died. If anyone is interested, I have the best mini jumper cables that uses a charged flash light looking battery. It doesn't need another car to do the jumping. Great gadget.

Today is Sun City Farmer's market. I hope the Alaska fish lady is there. If so, we will have grilled halibut on the table tonight.

This is an easy week. No doctors, no labs.. free as birds. Now next week is a different story.

Wishing you a blessed day. I'm thankful for our Daily-ites.

  2. We have a few unique acronyms here on the Daily.

I use MSH (My sweet husband)

@kazu uses DD DH I think it is "Dearly departed dear husband"

DS and DS can be both sister and son. Look for additional information if they use he or she.

    DGD: dear granddaughter

    DGS: dear grandson

    IMHO: in my humble opinion

Others will chime in, I have to finish my M&C (macaroni and cheese) lol

  3. Good morning Daily-ites from a cloudy morning, high 84, rain in the afternoon day.

Jacqui, welcome home. Thank you for your cruise thread. Merry widow indeed. Let us know about your foot!

Safe travels Sandi. Loved the McCafe picture!

It sounds like everyone returning from their cruises had a great time. Looking forward to hearing more.

Prayers to all on our lists. I had an add on for my book. Our friends dad moved to aggressive rehab after a stroke.

Today will be a gas and market run, and my wine request is due in today.

    Wishing everyone a blessed day!

The CDC recommends vaccination against hepatitis B, because of a fairly high rate of it there, but I think a sedate traveler on a cruise is unlikely to be exposed. I've gotten hepatitis A and B vaccinations even though I'm very unlikely to engage in any risky behaviors. Hepatitis A vaccination is recommended if you will eat street food or spend time in rural areas. Where I live, the county health department is the only source for these vaccinations.

I had Hep A, TDAP and typhoid for travel in 2019 but not a Hep B. I'll check on that. Thanks Paul.

    Onboard Westerdam now…

Our itinerary included South Korea, so I did get the visa for that, but never needed it.  I think your itinerary only includes Japan.  No visa requirement for that with U.S. passport.
The Westerdam team has done an amazing job of working with Japanese officials so that immigration requirements go smoothly.   Even flying in, things went quickly.  Arriving and departing on the ship should be simple as pie.  I filled out the “Visit Japan” form online, but that was totally unnecessary.  It was hard to fill out and there wasn’t even a quicker line at the airport.

Again, high marks to Westerdam team.  I hope hotel manager Dustin Coomer is onboard for you.  Very well-run ship.

(Your itinerary is different than ours, so I can’t help much with excursions, but suggest booking early.  They do fill up.  Anything scenic or outdoor park type is great.  So fun people-watching.  The Japanese ladies dress themselves and their dogs beautifully for a day at the park!  😍)

Thank you so much. I had a covid shot yesterday and asked the pharmacist about the shots. She said she had a few suggestions but wanted me to contact my doctor for sure.

Joy, I forgot to answer your questions about Japan.  I was just looking at that cruise, and it said visas are required for some nationalities.  We have never needed a visa to visit Japan, but our last visit was in 2018.  Usually, HAL will list the visas you will need when you check-in for the cruise on line.  We've never gotten special shots for Japan either.  There is a travel clinic in Austin that our DD uses when she is traveling to exotic places.  They seem to know which shots are needed for which country.   Sorry, but I don't know the name of the clinic or where it is located.

    Lenda

Thanks Lenda. I asked our roll call and was told to Google it or ask TA. Very welcoming...

  7. Good morning Daily-ites from a very soggy Georgetown. Oliver tried getting closer and closer to me with every boom of thunder. I think he lost weight from shivering in fear.

Sandi, congratulations to Morgan. There's a lot of pride in your family today!

We had fun last night at the Kentucky Derby party at our ballroom. Appetizers, ham, chicken, potatoes, green beans, and bread pudding with whiskey sauce. Voted for the favorite hat for ladies and crazy socks for the guys. Our neighbor was fully dressed with wig and all as Colonel Sanders. When it was time to show off the guys socks on the runway, his socks were chicken feet! He won. The band was a country western group, but we left before they came on.

I guess we won't celebrate Cinco d Mayo dinner suggestion.  Allen put in his request for greens, ham hocks, and corn bread. Maybe I'll make us a margarita..

Prayers and cheers to all on Vanessa's well planned lists. Thanks to Debbie, Sandi, Dixie, Ann, Roy and Graham (Father David) for your contributions.

    Wait! A question:

For those who cruised in Japan, do you or don't you need a visa? I've read conflicting articles. Also, although no immunization is required, what shots do you recommend?

Thanks to all. Have a blessed day, and a safe, healthy, happy week.

  8. Good morning Dailyites from a soggy Texas morning. My goodness the storms were nasty. I woke up at 1:00 and opened the door to listen to the rain since sleep wasn't happening.

This week has been fun with deciding on the Japan cruise. Got our airline tickets, hotel in Seattle, dinner reservations. Today is looking for shore excursions. Any ideas?

My heart and prayers go out to our fellow Daily-ites who are unwell and those trying to recover. Gerry great to hear Maurice has a tentative surgery date.

Annie/Chuck all I can say is you are being prayed for.

My favorite little tablet is finally telling me it's time to let go. I ordered another Samsung and it should be here Sunday.

Tonight is Girls game night. I'm making a chicken enchilada dip. I need a few ingredients (and wine) so will run to the market when MSH awakes.

Wishing everyone a blessed day, and praying for those in harm's way, our soldiers and our veterans.

  9. Good morning Daily-ites..

Prayers lifted for all of our Daily friends and family. Thinking of Jacqui @kazu I was able to remove 2 friends from my prayer book this week and that calls for a celebration.

We will be leaving Seattle in Sept and going up towards Alaska but we will be sailing thru Sitka, Skagway, and Dutch Harbor on the way to Japan. We have been to Juneau at least 6 times. We used to cruise with NCL. Then one summer we saw a 2 week special on HAL for Alaska, and the rest is history!

Yesterday was Farmer's market here in Sun City. I was able to get a nice piece of halibut I'll make tonight with a light white wine sauce.

Wishing everyone a blessed day. Thank you to our loyal contributor's.

  10. Good morning Daily-ites

Oh my goodness!! We are having one heck of thunderstorms and pounding rain. Our sweet Oliver is hugging next to me with his baby blanket. He's probably wondering how in the world he can go out to pee in THIS weather!

Thank you Graham for Father David's message.

Roy, Thank you so much for the time lines! I remember the day the Daily was changed over from the Fleet Report. @DeeniEncinitas and I enriched our sisterhood. ❤️

This afternoon we are going to a birthday party and it will be catered, so whatever they serve will be dinner.

Thoughts and prayers for all on our care list, and "ching ching" for the celebrations!

Thank you to Sandi, Vanessa, Debbie, Dixie, Ann, Tina and Roy for your contributions.

    Have a wonderful Sunday! Blessings!!

Thank you Rich, Sandi, Vanessa, Tina, Ann, and Paul;.   Happy Birthday Debbie and I hope your trip is going well.  Condolences to Maureen  but great news on DH.  Vanessa, I’m pleased with your progress.

Cheers to the King, Children Saving and the Devil Dogs but I’ll pass on the Cake and Pampered Little Dog.  I like Helen Keller’s quote,

I was almost to Ilulissat on Crystal Serenity’s 2016 Northwest Passage cruise   We .couldn’t get tenders to shore nor local boats out to meet us but we spent time in the harbor.  A bit of irony here, it was a very long cruise, but other than Greenland the cruise from Anchorage to New York had only US and Canadian ports so apparently Greenland made the voyage legal under the PVSA.

    Beethoven was pure genius.

I’ll pass on the meal. My alternative is Classic Caesar Salad, Port Braised Lamb Shank, and Dutch Apple Pie as served on MS Nieuw Statendam April 27, 2019:

  12. Good morning Dailyites from a windy morning.

I feel badly for those hit by tornadoes yesterday in Iowa and Nebraska. Too often we are sent tornado warnings on our phones. You never know who will be the next victim.

Prayers and Cheers for our Daily family. Vanessa, keep up the good work. Our hearts are with our troops and all suffering from war around the world.

All went well at the VA yesterday. Our private physician always has his nurse send labs, checkup information and updated meds. It moves the VA visit right along.

Here is our Oliver.  Rescued July 17 last year from a hoarding situation:

Adoption day: (poor little guy was shaking like a bad earthquake)

Thanks Sandi for the great pictures. When there are duplicate port days, I remember seeing the prior pictures and enjoy looking at them again.

Wanting to get to the Farmers market today but the weather looks windy with a chance of thunderstorms later. You can't trust the approximate times on our weather app.

I don't know what I will make for dinner, but will not be today's recipe of the day. Not because I wouldn't like #3, but just had shrimp alfredo yesterday for lunch.

Wishing all of our friends here on the Daily a peaceful,  healthy,  blessed weekend.

  13. Good morning Dailyites

A few chores this morning got me late to posting.

Prayers lifted for our Daily friends and family.  So happy to see Vanessa on our celebration list! Happy Birthday @dfish have a safe journey.

Last night was a lot of fun. So much food for game night. Ribs, potatoes/onions, German carrot salad...

For celebration of Audubon,  here is a great App for bird lovers:

It's called "Merlin bird ID by Cornell lab". After you download the app, you can select "sound ID" the app listens to the bird, records the sound, and tells you what birds you're listening to, along with the picture of the bird. It also keeps the bird songs! Mine is normally the Northern Cardinal, dove, even a hummingbird a few nights ago visiting our feeder. The app identifies over 1200 species by sound. It's amazing!

This afternoon is a drive to Austin for a VA appt. Then we will join friends for sushi.

Thanks to our Food and beverage department for the recipes. Roy and Sandi, thanks for the Fleet report and maps.

Wishing everyone a great, healthy,  blessed weekend.

Thinking of everyone recovering (and go girl Vanessa!) Hoping Chuck keep improving.

I'm sorry Tana took another turn. I'm thankful you have family right now to help so you can catch a 2nd wind.

This morning is bloodwork for sweet husband, then market. I'm serving ribs for girl's night. 😋

Thank you for thinking of Allen. It will take a few more days for his injection to kick in, but we are optimistic!

Sending you each a special blessing and wishing you a wonderful day! ❤️

Oh Denise! Thank you so much for the sweet post! I keep thinking of you and David and missing our Maui time. Are you going to your CA home at Mother's Day? Did you finish your painting you were so inspired by? Hugs my dearest sister and a peck on the cheek for David.
