  1. Not correct. Carnival still sells alcohol and pays the taxes as required. I'm guessing they decided that their computer system can't handle the Cheers model on days where there are specific rules in place (ie special liquor in Galveston, or NY's rule about an open package or something like that), so they just don't do it on day 1. Apparently, this rule is also in place for Norfolk.
  2. I think they are bussing people from Baltimore.
  3. Firenze hasn't sailed yet, so there won't be anything. You might try looking at the Venezia.
  4. I didn't think the published dress code differentiated between kids and adults. Whether you can get away with deviating from it or not, that's a different question.
  5. Probably being bussed in from Baltimore.
  6. Generally speaking, you will need to be off the ship by 9:30-10:00am the latest. Some ships offer an extend option, but that might get you to 1:00. I would suggest maybe a day hotel?
  7. I believe Carnival is providing some transportation back and forth this weekend. Not sure if it is limited to just getting people back to Balitmore.
  8. Unfortunately, agricultural laws will prevent you from taking any food that is not prepackaged off the ship.
  9. I wouldn't book a flight at 9:15 at Fort Lauderdale when the ship arrives at Port Everglades, where you can practically spit from the ship to the airport.
  10. I've been on ships that have had lap pools. But most of the time the "stuff" that made them lap pools was always broken.
  11. Just note that you can't take a PB&J off the ship.
  12. I remember when Preflight didn't require reservations, but they were heavily suggested. I agree, that lot is pretty secure.
  13. I have never been on a ship that had trash cans or paper napkins.
  14. Someone posted on John Heald's FB page that the captain made an announcement earlier stating that they are in a wait and hold pattern. IMHO, it will probably be at least a couple of weeks before the port of Baltimore is open again.
  15. Just want to note that if going to Sea Glass Beach, just remember that it is illegal to actually remove any of the sea glass.
  16. OP, I would listen to Ferry_Watcher. He/She lives in the area and works at the port during Alaska season.
  17. In all honesty, I've never been on a cruise ship that had a pool that I would consider "swimmable". But Virgin definitely has a smaller pool than most ships of that size.
  18. I got to FLL just a little after 9. Our driver showed up early so we were on the way very quickly. Fortunately, there was no traffic. However, had we been going to FLL the day we got on the ship, it would have been interesting since 95 North was closed. Of course, at 8:00, there really wasn't anyone rushing to get off.
  19. When I sailed on SL last July, I had to be at FLL for a scheduled 11:40 flight. I booked my transport for 9:00. We chose an 8:00 disembarkation and walked right off. We were at the curb by 8:15.
  20. Apparently you didn't do any research. It's been a long held complaint about the sizes of the pools on Virgin.
  21. You have a better chance of making an 11:00 (though personally, I wouldn't chance anything before noon) than you do for a 9:40. If it were me, I'd get a hotel by the airport for the night and fly out the next morning.
  22. The Splash of Romance boarding is about 5 minutes earlier than the DBE boarding. If you are looking at it only for boarding, I wouldn't bother.
  23. I personally consider the pre-paid the bare minimum. Things would need to be really bad for me to request that be changed. Anything extra is up to you. I normally will give the steward an extra $20, my waiter (when I have the same staff all cruise, as you will on Disney) an extra $20, and the assistant waiter $10. I personally don't believe the Maitre'D requires anything additional.
