  1. Dear Capt. Ron;

    I followed your advice and asked my guide to come into the port and meet me next to the cruise terminal.

    There is a port entrance fee but I am happy to pay for it if it means not having to walk through a huge containers filled yard and hot/humid weather.

    She quoted 650 bht for 2 days ( which comes to around $26 CDN). A very reasonable price for port fee when compared to what we'll have to pay in Da Nang port ( almost $12US/person).

  2. Hi Capt. Ron;

    Is there a specific dress code in Pattaya and Bangkok ( the KIng's mourning period)?

    Are we allowed to wear color? And short dresses ( summer dress, spaghetti straps)?

    And do we need ot have shoulders, knees and head covered inside the Sanctuary of Truth?

    Thanks

  3. Our guide picked us up at the ship directly. As I remember about 15+/- minute walk through the industrial port. Level ground and on pavement, but keep eyes out for the movement of the containers etc. Lots of people seemed to be doing it, so it should be pretty safe. I don't remember it costing more in Thailand for pickup directly at the ship, I guess each tour guide is different.

    Keep the questions coming,

    Capt. Ron

    Thank you for your reply.

  4. Hi;

    We are boked on the Millenium and will be docked at Laem Chabang.

    Can anyone tell me how far it is from where the ship docks to the port gate?

    I have booked a private guide and she told me she will be waiting for me at the port gate.

    I tried to find ou how far it is to walk but was not able to find anything yet. Some said it takes 20 minutes, some said it takes 15 minutes by car...

    Will my guide be allowed to come in and wait for my right next to the terminal?

    I understand that there may be some port fees we will have to pay extra but if it is a long walk, it maybe a good idea.

    Thanks

  5. We used Provence Connection twice and both time they were very quick in their reply and the driver was there right when we got off the ship.

    The first time was in July 2014 at our Marseille port. We booked a private tour to Cassis and it was lovely.

    The second time was from our Villefranche port in July 2015. We booked a full day tour to Monaco, Villa Ephrussi and Eze.

    If we ever come back to the French Riviera, I would definitely use them again.

  6. If you are sailing from Marina Bay, their website says there is a money exchange there

    The other cruise centre has details on their page too

    I usually change what I have left over into the currency of the next place the ship docks. Your other option is to find the nearest money changer (and they are near all hotels) and change it back just before you check out, leaving enough for your taxi fare. You can google approx costs of taxi's in Singas based on distance & time of day

    Thanks.

    Good to know

  7. Hi villauk;

    I was hoping to be able to book the same cruise than you but due to my daughter's school schedule, we are doing the one after.

    How active is your roll call?

    Mine has no teens so we are worried that DD will be the only teen on the whole ship.

    Thanks mking8288 for all the very detailed informations. I think I can manage for now unless I have more question as the cruise comes closer.

    Luckily, DH pseaks Cantonese and Mandarin so I know we can always find our way back to the hotel :-)

  8. Thanks Mking8288;

    I am keeping all my options and not pre-book anything just inc ase we are too jet lagged. I guess we wake up , check the weather and decide what to do.

    One question: can we pay with credit card when buying the Octopus card at the airport? Or to top it up?

    How about taxi? Do we pay with credit card or cash?

    How much cash should we bring with us? Do restaurants accept credit card or only HKD?

    We are stopping in Hong Kong, Singapore and Thailand and I really don't want to carry HKD, SGD and BHT. Vietnam is easy, they accept USD everywhere :-)

  9. Hi everyone;

    Thanks to all the helpful advices I have gotten on this forum, I now know what and where to buy tickets ( or cards) for public transport.

    Just a few more questions:

    Can I pay the EZ links cards in Singapore and the Octopus card in HK with my credit card? or it has to be cash? How about tickets for the Airport Express in Hong Kong?

    How about taxi? Do they accept credit card like in Copenhagen?

    Just trying to figure out how much cash ( SGD and HKD) I have to brin for 6 days in HK and 3 days in Singapore.

    BTW, how much cash to I need for 3 days in Pattaya ( Thailand)? I can always ask this question on another thread.

    Thanks

  10. Klook offers quite a lot of activities that I am interested in.

    Great site!!!

    Have you booked with them before? Are they reliable?

    If I understood correctly, you print out a voucher and present it at the ticket booth. Is there any restriction for these vouchers?

    Thanks

  11. Thank you.

    Do you know how much the taxi ride from the cruise ship to Night Safari should cost?

    I just wated to see if it is worth to go by ourselves or to book with a tour that provides pick up from the hotel.

    Thanks

  12. KLook has an octopus you can get pre loaded tourist octopus card that you can pre order and pick up at the airport on arrival. It is USD 13 with HKD50 pre loaded onto it.

    I have never heard of Klook before. I will go and have a look at their website.

    Thanks for the info.

  13. Dear mking8288;

    I think I have everything I need for a successful trip.

    Here what I have planned, let me know if I am missing anything:

    Arrival at HKIA.

    Buy Octopus card for 3 people.

    If tired, just get a cab

    If not too tired, take the AE to Kowloon MTR, take a txi from MTR to hotel Metro Winner. ( Group rate for 3 with AE).

    Things to do:

    Peak Tram

    Star Ferry

    Light show

    Shopping and eat

    Macau if time allows

    Big Buddha ( if weather is good)

    Leaving to Singapore on Dec 31st, 7:00AM

    Take taxi from Metro Winner to Kowloon MTR.

    Use Tigeair In Town checkin , check luggage , take AE to HKIA

    Cruise ship comes back to Hong Kong Jan 13rd,

    Sunday morning Jan 15th, around 9:00AM

    Take taxi or ship shuttle to Kowloon MTR , use In Town check in Finneair.

    If weather permits, take carry-on to Lantau Big Buddha. Use locker in basement of shopping mall

    If weather not favorable, leave carry-on at Kowloon Left luggage and stay in town.

    Take AE or MTR to HKIA, no later than 10:00PM.

    If go to airport early, use Business lounge to shower and rest

    What do you think?

    Did I forget anything?

    I think I got the part regarding the AE from Kowloon MTR. I will use it twice, once to fly to Singapore onDec 31st. Another time to fly home with Finneair.

    Thanks for being so detailed and patient.

    You have been a great help.

    Stefanny

  14. Dear mking8288;

    If we decided to take AE to Kowloon then taxi to hotel:

    1/ Is there a special rate for 3 people witht he AE?

    2/ What discount are you talking about? I remembered that you mentioned that in one of my previous question.

    Regards,

    Stefanny
