  1. 1. It depends on where on Drottninggatan you plan on leave from.

    Drottninggatan is over a mile in length.

    https://www.google.com/maps/dir/59.3284761,18.0668186/59.3410632,18.0530613/@59.3327804,18.0638397,15.25z/data=!4m2!4m1!3e2

    Bus #76 runs in Sundays but only until about 5pm (in the current schedule valid to June 23rd).

    Easiest would probably be to go to Hötorget and go with blue bus #1 from there to Frihamnen.

    https://www.google.com/maps/dir/59.3345965,18.0606699/H%C3%B6torget,+Norrmalm,+Stockholm,+Sverige/@59.3341945,18.0613885,509m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m8!4m7!1m0!1m5!1m1!1s0x465f9d67674b1659:0xe87d05663d192851!2m2!1d18.0621432!2d59.3348445

    2. It's about 800m (half a mile).

    Either walk or take the tram to Djurgårdsbron.

    3. Like Thule says, Vasa have a basic restaurant/café where you can get lunch, various kinds of sandwiches, a cup of coffee with a cinnamon bun

    http://www.vasamuseetsrestaurang.se/

    5. In your case I think the cost will be the same but a 72 hour card will give you more flexibility.

    Dear Desdichado;

    1/ If taking bus #1 from Hotorget back to Frihamnen on Sunday night, is there a specific direction we should be heading to? I noticed on the map Thule gave me that bus #1 seems to go East-West.

    2/ Where can get the time table for bus 76, 1 ( and other buses)?

    Does bus 76 runs everyday, even on weekend? It's a good thing to know it stops at 5:00PM on Sunday, that's the day we want to stay late in town for dinner and Ice Bar.

    Does the bus 1 run more days/longer hours?

    3/ From the Abba museum back to Frihamnen: take the tram 7 ( which direction ? or it doesn't matter) and connect with the 76 at Djurgardsbron. Then take 76 direction Norra Hammarbyhamnen back to ship, correct?

    Can I take bus 67 and also connect with bus 76 at Djurgardsbron?

    Sorry to ask so many detailed questios, I am just a very OCD person :-)

    Thanks you all for your help.

  2. I assume you mean the subway (T-bana) rather than tram.

    From T-centralen to Gamla Stan (one stop) you can use either the red line on the upper level, direction Norsborg/Fruängen or the green line on the lower level , direction Hagsätra/Farstra Strand/Skarpnäck.

    At Gamla Stan the red and green lines are on the same level, 4 tracks side by side at street level. To exit you need to go down the steps, cross the gates and then up again.

    The Vasa museum has a lunch restaurant

    4/ Bus map:

    http://sl.se/resources/maps/geographics/2015/7510.Innerstan.2015.html

    Dear Thule;

    Sorry for the tram/T-bana mistake. here we have only one system (metro).

    Thanks for the very detailed informations regarding the T-bana route and tracks. That's exactly what I was looking for.

    Also thanks for the bus map. That's the one I saw.

    Is there a individual map and time table for each route with the stops names?

  3. Dear Desdichado62;

    Thank you for the very detailed replies.

    It helps a lot.

    Just a few more questions:

    1/ To go from Drottninggatan back to Frihamnen on Sunday evening, do we take the 76 bus again? What direction?

    Does it run on Sunday?

    2/ from the Abba museum back to Frihamnen, how far do we have to walk to get the 76 bus?

    Is there another option than walking? Could we take the tram #7 and connect somewhere else?

    3/ Is there anywhere to eat a quick bite between the Vasa and Abba museums?

    4/ I saw a very good map of Stockholm bus route but I can't seem to find it, do you a link?

    And the bus time table?

    5/ Between the 72 hours Travel card and a standard SL card that we load money as needed, which one will be a better buy for the things and travels we planned?

    Thanks

  4. Dear Desdichado62;

    Thank you for taking time to help us with all these wonderful informations. You are doing a fantastic job. we are very lucky to have you.

    We are arriving in Stockholm Saturday morning. Our hotel is the Comfort Hotel Stockholm on Kungsbron.

    We have to board the ship during Sunday around noon but the ship stays overnight and only leaves on Monday afternoon around 4:00 PM.

    I am trying to find the best itinerary to fit all the things and sites we want to see and minimize going back and forth. Could you please have a look at what I have planned and tell me if it makes sense in term of time management and travel.

    Saturday AM +PM

    Arrival at hotel, check in, leave luggage and walk to Old Town

    If taking tram, T-Centralen station, red line, one stop, get off at Gamla Stan ( is there a direction we should be aware off?)

    Sunday morning:

    Escape room on Olof Palmes gata ( 9:30-11:00)

    Check out of hotel

    Taxi to Frihamnen around noon

    Sunday afternoon:

    Bus from Frihamnen to Drottninggatan and Gallerian for shopping (which bus? what direction? is there a faster way by T-bana?)

    Ice bar

    Dinner in town (where? any suggestion, please?)

    Back to ship ( which bus back to Frihamnen?)

    Monday AM:

    Bus from Frihamnen to vasa Museum and ABBA museums (bus 76? any other bus? how long does it take? what time should I buy the Vasa tickets and what time the ABBA tickets?)(Is there a bus map and/or schedule for Stockholm buses in English?)

    Monday PM:

    Going back from ABBA museum to ship ( bus 76? is there another way?)

    Please let me know if what I have planned make sense.

    And please also give some more details on bus 76/1 and also the bus from Frihamnen to Drottninggatan and back.

    We plan to buy a SL travel car, How much do you think we should load the card to start? we don't want to overload it and loose the balance.

    Thank you very much

  5. Hi;

    This is my first time on this forum so forgive me if I ask some pretty obvious questions.

    We are planning a 13 days cruise with Serenade OTS Royal Caribbean next July (July 24th-Aug 06).

    The ship will stay 2 days in Stockholm before it leaves for the 13 days cruise. We plan to arrive on Saturday 23rd so we will have some time to visit Stockholm.

    I know it is still a long time but I am starting to do some research and planning.

    I am really glad that I found this thread.

    So, if we fly to ARN, what is the most convenient way to get to the city?

    Where does the cruise ships dock usually?

    We are a family of 3. Do the hotels in Stockholm usually have rooms for 3 or we will need to book 2 rooms?

    I have not started to make a list of the sites and things we want to visit yet but it will probably be the Vasa Museum, the Old Town ( Gamla Stan?). Probably some shopping since DD will be 17 then and definitely a lot of espresso and cakes.

    So here are my questions:

    1/ transfer between ARN and hotel?

    2/ any hotel suggestion?

    3/ transfer between hotel and port? Is there more than one port?

    4/ attractions and sites not to be missed?

    Thanks in advance for your reply. You will probably see me on this thread quite often from now until next July :-)))

    Thanks

  6. Dear Lilybob;

    These are wonderful suggestions.

    After I have read your reply, I went online and did some researches on things we want to see and where we should stay.

    You are so right, since one of the main things we want to see is the NYE fireworks, we should definitely saty near that.

    Is there also fireworks in the Marina area?

    What do you thing about vacation rental? I saw some great 2 bedrooms apartments near the Marina for a very good rate ( since 2017 is still far away, I put it the dates for Dec 2015-Jan 2016 for approximately the same length of stay).

    If there is fireworks in the Marina area, we will try to stay there since it is so much sheaper than downtown. The area near the Gold Souk seems great too, but it will be a problem for the NYE fireworks.

    I am still recuperating from the shick of how expensive hotels indowntown Dubai can be. I guess we might have to stay 3 days instead of 4. It should be enough if we skip the dunes jumping dinner.

    Thanks again for the detailed reply. It gives me an idea on where we should s tay and things we will be visiting.

    Thanks

    Stefanny

  7. Dear Lilybob;

    Our cruise is planned and booked for Jan 2nd-Jan 9th 2017.

    It is from Monday to Monday. My original plan was flying in from Canada on Wedensday, arriving on Thursday so we could have 1/2 day Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday to visit. We are boarding on Monday.

    The ship comes back on Sunday and we overnight in Dubai and get off the ship Monday. I will like to fly back on Monday since I need to get back to work.

    We plan to visit the Burj Khalifa, the Burj Al Arab, the Dubai Mall (we have a DD who is 17), the Souk and a Creekside visit.

    We don't have a budget yet, it does not mean that we have unlimited fund, it just means that I have not done any research on hotels and excursions yet :-)

    Here are the question I have:

    If the week starts on Sunday, and if we arrive on Thursday Dec 29th. What is the opening hours of the mall and the tourist's attraction for Friday Dec 30th, Sat Dec 31st and Sun Jan 1st?

    Are the malls closed early Dec 31st and all day Jan 1st?

    or should I just move the cruise to Dec 26th- Jan 2nd? Then we will fly in on Dec 25th, go on the cruise, the visit Dubai after, from Monday Jan 2nd to Thursday Jan 5th, 2017.

    Will there be less a conflict with the Holidays opening schedule?

    Thank you for taking time to reply.

    Stefanny

  8. Can anyone give some suggestion for hotel in Dubai?

    We are 3, DD will be 17. Is it more convenient to book 2 rooms?

    We plan to come a few days early, the cruise is from Jan 2nd-9th, 2017, which is Sunday to Sunday.

    I was thinking of flying out on Tuesday, arriving on Wednesday. This will allow us 3 days to visit dubai. But now I am wondering if most places will be closed for the 31st of December and the 1st of January.

    What will be closed on Jan 1st?

    Maybe I should move my cruise to the week earlier (Dec 26th-Jan 2nd). The ship will arrive in Dubai on Jan 1st, does it mean I will miss the firework?

    Sorry to have so many different questions. It is my first time in the Arbian Gulf and I have to start thinking about the logistics...

    Thanks

  9. If that was the Christmas cruise we were on it as well. It was our best cruise so far and our two daughters first cruise. We loved the Brilliance. Since then we have taken them on P&O but are looking forward to cruising on explorer in August. (Back to RCL)

    There was a great mix of nationalities on board. Our oldest then 7 made friends with a young Itallian boy - neither understood each other but it was so cute.

    Hi;

    We will also be cruising out of Dubai for New Year 2017. I am wondering if there will be a lot of teenagers on board so DD (17 then) will have people to hang out with.

    For those who have cruised this region and during the Holidays, did you see a number of kids/teens on the ship?

    I am worried that she might be lonely if the clientele is older.

    Thanks

  10. I was waiting for these to come out. We are booked on the

    Jan 2nd, 2017. Planning on spending New Year's Eve in Dubai.

    Now I hope I can get the hotel that I want booked. It's all coming

    into place.

    Hi Cat Girl;

    It is so funny... We are booked on the same cruise : Vision Jan 2nd-9th, 2017 from Dubai.

    I was looking for some infos on the Arabian Gulf and cruises and stumbled upon this thread.

    This is our first cruise in this region and we are pretty excited. I will need to do some research and hope to find out more about hotels, excursions.

    Do you mind telling me which hotel you will recommend. We are a family of 3. DD will be 17 then. Should we book 2 rooms?

    Looking forward to meet again on the roll call.

    Bye,

  11. Thank you all for the advices. It does help to know that there are security guards 24/7.

    Our cruise is only 7 days, leaving from Dubai, going to Muscat then coming back to Abu Dhabi before returning to Dubai. I have read somewhere, I can't remember, that going from Dubai to Muscat is where pirates might be present.

    Regarding medications, I always bring my little med kit ( Tylenol, Advil, Imodium, Bonine, antihistamine and Polysporin cream). Will this be a problem since they are not prescription drugs but more of a first aid kit?

    Dh is so excited about going to Dubai. DD just wants to shop. I will start doing my research when we get back from our July cruis. I still have March 2016, July 2016 to plan before getting to the Arabian Gulf cruise.

    Thanks

  12. Hi;

    We are planning a New Year cruise from Dubai with our daughter who will be 17 then.

    I am not familier with the Middle East ports at all. I posted my question on the Middle East ports but there is little or no traffic.

    Our cruise leaves from Dubai, goes to Musacta dn Abu Dhabi.

    It is right afer New Year day.

    I have a few questions and I hope cruisers on this forum can help:

    1/ Safety

    Is it safe? In Dubai and on the ship? I have read somewhere there is always a threat of pirates goig from Dubai to Muscat (Oman).

    Is this something I should worry about?

    2/ Holiday season: obviously, I don't expect people there to celebrate X-Mas and New Year like we do but is it still a holiday for new Year?

    Will the kids e in school or not over there?

    3/ It is not a itinerary popular with families but will there be any kids on this ship so my daughter can hang out with?

    I am just starting to do my research but DH wants to visit Dubai and DD wants to do a cruise so this might be the best solution for our family.

    Thanks

  13. Hi;

    This will be our first cruise in the Middle East region. My husband has always dreamed of visiting Dubai and our daughter loves cruises so I thought I should combine the 2.

    We plan to book a RCL 7 days cruise from Dubai right afetr New Year. I have not done much research yet but I do have some questions:

    1/ Do we need any special visa to visit Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Oman etc... (we are Canadians)?

    2/ what is the weather like in January?

    3/ Dress code in this region? Conservative? No summer dresses or shorts?

    4/ Will there be any teens on the ship for my DD to hang out with? I know this is not a popular itinerary for families with kids or teens but if it is during the Holidays Seasons (do they celebrate X-Mas in Dubai? even if it is a muslim country?) are the kids out of school in this area?

    Sorry to ask these stupid questions. I really have NO idea or info about Dubai yet. I will have to do some research and reading about the area and ports.

    Thanks

  14. Hi everyone;

    We are considering booking the Jewel Panama Canal ( Dec 2016). I know it is still a long way to go but I am new to NCL and I have a few questions that I hope you can help.

    1/ Freestyle dining: what does it mean?

    I don't have to make an reservation for the MDR each night? Or I have the possibility to make a reservation for specific time so we don't have to wait?

    2/ Which venues have cover fee ? besides the 2 MDR on the Jewel, what are the other places we can eat without having to pay? We have a teenage daughter and she will probably be hanging out with her friends. I just want to make clear to her where she can eat snacks or pizza without having to check with me every minutes.

    3/ Room services: I have read somewhere on CC that NCL now charges $7.95 for room service and $5 for pizza? Is the $5 for pizza only for pizza delivered to the cabin or also at the buffet or grill?

    4/ Teen's Club: we will be traveling during the New Year Holidays, but we chose a Panama Canal itinerary, which is not a very popular destination with young families and teens. Have any of you done this itinerary around the same time? Will there be any kids on the ship so DD (16) can hang out with? Is there an organized teen's Club with activities like Carnival, RCL and Celebrity?

    Thank you in advance for your advices. I am a little bit of an OCD so freestyle is kind of scaring me :-)))

  15. We used them last year for a private tour from Marseilles to Cassis.

    They are very reliable.

    Our driver was a very nice French guy with a very outgoing personality and very patient.

    We had a wonderful time and will not hesitate to book them again.

    You can read my review on Tripadvisor under the same name (it was in July 2014).

    Hope this helps.
