  1. There was definitely another rockslide. We were scheduled to visit Skagway in Sept of 2022 but had to cancel due to the rockslide that happened a few weeks prior. I too would be interested in knowing the current situation.
  2. You touched on one of the few things that I don't like about this class of ship. The Concierge Club (Suite/Pinnacle/possibly D+ Lounge) is all the way at the end of one of those long aft hallways. You have a fantastic aft view from the lounge once you get there, but it's quite a hike from the elevator.
  3. @twangster - Looking around Lerwick on Google Maps, I found the Lerwick Brewery. Did you perhaps get a chance to sample some of the local beer?
  4. Time for an actual cruising question. We're doing a family cruise on Wonder in November. Same old, same old itinerary...St. Maarten, St. Thomas, CocoCay. I'm looking for ideas on St. Maarten. For our first visit there many years ago (including daughters), we did a round the island tour with Bernard's Tours and enjoyed it. We've since been to Maho Beach several times, and now typically just do a beach/shopping day in Philipsburg. The "kids" with us are all in their late 20s and will want to do something more active. We could try Bernard's again...anyone used them recently? Any other ideas for something new and different?
  5. Congrats to your son on his house purchase! Patches looks like she has settled in nicely. And the food looks fantastic! How did you sear the tomahawks after sous-vide?
  6. I didn't cook anything for dinner last night, but I did do some breakfast sandwich meal prep yesterday. I play golf 3-4 times a week, usually with an early tee time that has me leaving the house without eating breakfast. Sometimes, I'll grab a protein bar, or maybe a hard-boiled egg. I decided to make a bunch of sandwiches like a McDonald's sausage, egg, and cheese. I scrambled 8 eggs with salt and pepper in a glass dish. Baked for 25 minutes at 350F Split a half dozen English muffins. Cut the cooked eggs into 6 squares and put on the muffins Top with a slice of American cheese. Add a pre-cooked pork sausage patty. Add the English muffin top and you have 6 sandwiches. I individually wrapped each one with wax paper and a zip lock bag and put them in the freezer. I will hopefully be able to microwave one to thaw and heat up as I'm getting ready to leave in the morning. If that doesn't work well, I'll have to remember to move one from the freezer to the fridge the night before golf. I'm sure this will help my golf score tremendously. 🤣
  7. Micheline is there now working on the house, hence me being a bachelor. I plan to drive to Cincinnati at the end of the month to spend a week helping and drive Micheline home. The interior of the house is looking great. They just finished painting another room and only have one room left to paint. Everything is sparkling clean. The outside however needs a lot of work. My daughter decided that she wouldn't buy a lawn mower and instead would just have a yard full of natural flowers. The weeds are now almost knee high. 😬 Micheline is trying to find someone who will come and mow/cut/trim everything so that it is back to a manageable condition. My daughter now realizes that her initial plan won't work. If only she would just do what her mother tells her. It took me a few years to learn that lesson, but she hasn't yet learned. 😜
  8. We love Ahan Thai. We just found out about it a couple of months ago. We've been known to coordinate trips to Lowe's around dinner time just so we eat there. 😁 The thing that we're missing around here is good Indian food.
  9. Neko is definitely a cutie. I'm sure that they will get used to each other. Neko just needs to get a little bigger. 🙂
  10. Not yet. I'm working up the enthusiasm to take the whole chicken out of the freezer and try the rotisserie tomorrow. As you know, there are a lot of good restaurants nearby that are competing for my attention (and winning). I had a couple of Ahi tuna tacos and a couple of local IPAs at Slider's Tiki Bar last night while watching golf on TV, looking at the ocean, and listening to live music. It's hard to compete with that.
  11. The project to bring a new kitten into my daughter's house is going well. They are enjoying playing together, chasing each other around the house. They no longer need to be kept separated.
  12. Good thing your KLM house didn't end up there. 🙂 I like when you go into geek mode, but I'm almost certainly in the minority.
  13. Looking forward to this. We had our first Q class experience on an Alaska cruise 1.5 years ago on Quantum R/T from Seattle. In addition to what others have said about clothing, I'd suggest a couple of things: 1. Be prepared for changes. We ended up missing both Skagway and Dawes Glacier (but added back Icy Strait Point, which was in the original itinerary and got replaced with Skagway). Dawes Glacier in particular is dependent on sea conditions at the time. No matter where you are though, the views are spectacular. 2. To take advantage of the spectacular views, check out the Two70 lounge at the back of the ship. HUGE two deck floor to ceiling windows wrapped all around the aft of the ship. That was our favorite place to relax and read/have a happy hour drink/eat breakfast/etc. Have a great cruise!!
  14. I'm all in for this. Can't wait for some fantastic @twangster photos. Did you bring a tripod for the long exposure shots? Did you get a little house on KLM? I always preferred KLM equipment to/from Schiphol even if it was a Delta ticket.
  15. You had to bring that up, didn't you. Did you hear about the World Series parade that year? It started on Stone Street, turned right on Broadway, went through Bill Buckner's legs, and continued through the Canyon of Heroes. Grrrrrrrr.....
  16. I'm sure that you guys are familiar with this: And probably, unfortunately, also familiar with this: Full disclosure: I'm a (recovering) Red Sox fan, so I can't talk too much.
  17. I enjoyed reading the NYT article in your post. I especially liked, "There are other versions of fast noodles. There is spaghetti in a can. It is sweetish and gloppy, and a first cousin of dog food". It's been a long time since I've even thought about Spaghettios or Chef Boyardee in a can, but that's a pretty good description.
  18. Getting 2 cats together is smart. Here's the plan that my daughter is following to introduce the cats to each other: https://indoorpet.osu.edu/cats/felinelifestressors/new-pets
  19. Since there are a lot of cat people here...My older daughter got a second cat a couple of days ago. Meet Merlin: Her existing cat (real name Onyxia because she's all black but everyone calls her Stinky) was used to having my daughter all to herself. There's quite a bit of hissing and growling happening so far from Stinky, but Merlin doesn't seem at all phased by it. My daughter is slowly introducing the cats to each other over about a week before putting them in the same room together.
  20. Isn't it amazing how pets know when you aren't feeling well? And if your cats are anything like cats that we've had, Minnie doesn't just THINK that the new chair is for her, she knows it beyond a shadow of a doubt. I hope that you heal quickly.
