  1. I read the word bubble at the top and immediately thought "Cat Scratch Fever", until I read the part about your BFF at the bottom.
  2. I think it's probably a similar story for any mass market appliance maker. Too many corners being cut in the interest of saving money. I'm seriously thinking of getting a Sub Zero but I'm having a hard time getting past the price. I should just suck it up and pay the price, and then hopefully be happy for many years to come. Might actually save money in the long run?????? 😜
  3. I can't take many more games like that one. Been way too many of the same sloppy, barely win games this year. I'm worried how they'll do next week against a quality team like the Bengals (assuming they beat the Ravens tonight). Can't give Joe Burrow as many opportunities as they gave the Dolphins today or he will destroy us.
  4. I'd guess with some research, you could figure out how to dual boot. I think you'd just have to tell the BIOS to pause and ask where to boot from, but I've not done that. You might need two different copies of the OS to do this but again, I'm not sure. However, I don't think dual boot is necessary. A 1TB SSD drive is very fast (nearly instant boot and app load times) and cheap at around $100. I installed 2 and use the second as a working drive for current projects and as a fast scratch disk. I've got Adobe LR/PS/PR/AE, Flight Simulator, Office, and a few other misc. apps all installed on the 1 TB boot drive and it's still only half full. If needed, a 2TB SSD drive is about $160+/-. I assumed that your question about Windows 7 was in jest. 😁 I had no problems with either Windows 10 or now Windows 11.
  5. Ditto for us. We had a Bosch in Cincinnati and it was extremely quiet, but it was awkward to load. Went with a KitchenAid with the third rack here and love it. It's incredible how much you can fit into it and the ProDry option really works well. It's fairly quiet (not completely silent like the Bosch) in case we want to run it during the day, but we also time delay the start and run it in the middle of the night, so noise level isn't really important to us.
  6. Warning to others: Skip over this post if you don't like technobabble speak. Consider yourself warned. I built my current computer in the summer of 2020. Since I don't really need, or want to pay for, the latest/fastest tech, I usually buy around one generation old tech when the prices have dropped a little. I'm an Intel guy and considered AMD (which many said was better for gaming at the time) but stayed with Intel. Adobe (Lightroom, Photoshop, Premiere) didn't take advantage of multi-threading the same way many games did and AMD didn't have an advantage over Intel. I went with an Intel i7-10700K CPU and an Asus TUF Gaming Z490-Plus motherboard with 2X16GB (32GB total) of 3200MHz DDR4 RAM. For video, I went with an Asus GeForce RTX 2070 with 8GB of GDDR6 RAM. For storage I went with 2 1TB NVMe SSD drives (one for Windows and apps, one for current document/photo/video storage), and a 6TB spinning disk for archiving older photos/videos. I went with liquid cooling using a Fractal Design cooler inside a Fractal Design Define R6 case. You can see all of the parts purchased from NewEgg in this document. They're all 2.5 years old and no longer readily available, but you can substitute for a newer version. Computer Part List.pdf I got a tremendous amount of help from a CC user named Dave ( @pierces on CC) who is one of the main posters in the CC Photo & Camera Discussion forum (where people post some great pictures...cruising focused and otherwise). Dave posted in great detail his months long thinking and research about building a new PC. I used a lot of his thinking when making my component choices. If you have specific computer questions related to photo or video editing, that's a good forum to visit. Here's Dave's thread:
  7. I've always built my own desktops. Two computers ago, I decided that I'd rather have the portability of a laptop, but I almost never used it anywhere but on my desk. I use an iPad when I want portability and something bigger than my phone. So for my current computer, I'm back to a home built desktop. Much more power (CPU, GPU, RAM, SSD storage) for the same price. I built it to be silent and you wouldn't even know it's running. But the best thing I did this time was go with a 34" ultrawide monitor at 3440x1440. I'm not much of a gamer (occasional Flight Simulator) but the added width of the screen is great for photo and video editing. You can have a variety of editing panels open and still have a lot of room for the main section with the picture/video. It's also nice to have two apps in different windows side by side on one screen.
  8. Woke up here in NE Florida to 38F. Brrrrrr. I'm definitely Florida soft now. It will be back in the 70s by Tuesday.
  9. I'm interested in what you think about the craft ice. We will soon be in the market for a new fridge, because I will likely beat our existing Samsung fridge with a hammer the next time the ice maker freezes over (happens about once every 3 weeks now). Extremely frustrating so a new fridge from Samsung is a hard no. The LGs look nice and the craft ice is an interesting idea.
  10. This is seriously a concern for us in looking for sun ledge furniture. The online pictures look great, but the only people sitting in them are 20-something year old, physically fit models wearing bikinis. We are none of the above. We're thinking of going with something that's a more upright chair rather than a reclined chaise lounge chair...like this: Signature Chair - In Water Pool Chair | Ledge Lounger (ledgeloungers.com) They're still low to the water, but hopefully we'll just need to swing our legs to the side and push up.
  11. Unfortunately, yes. We're in the upper northeast corner where winters will dip into the 40s, or occasionally even the 30s. I use them when playing golf in cold weather. Looks like it will be around 40F when I tee off early Monday morning. 😧 It was in the 70s yesterday and will be again in a few days.
  12. I watched a video about Amazon's logistics the other day (click here if interested). They'll use their own planes/trucks or they'll outsource to UPS/Fedex or even the US postal service depending on where the item is coming from and going to. The USPS already delivers just about everywhere (especially remote locations) and some locations are not worth adding to the Amazon delivery network. It's not surprising that Walmart would also just outsource some of their deliveries to the existing Amazon network. Whatever's the fastest/cheapest way to get it there.
  13. Crystal - Is that a sun/baja shelf in the lower left area? If so, have you picked out loungers for that area? We have a small sun shelf and I'm looking at chair options.
  14. We had the same problem last fall. Ended up ordering ours from Target and they came in a couple of days. Target and Walmart are both good options. We still use Amazon a lot. Just ordered a couple of USB C to USB A cables to charge a portable handwarmer that didn't come with a charging cable. It was about $5 for two 3 foot cables and got delivered in 2 days. Can't beat that.
  15. I didn't even know that the Golden Globes happened...until someone tweeted about the great acceptance speech by Jennifer Coolidge, aka Stifler's Mom.
  16. That is VERY impressive! I would have loved to be there just to watch. I'm thinking through all of the engineering challenges...making the wing the right shape for lift, weight balance, suspension on the landing gear, coordinating multiple engines for even thrust, adjusting all of the control surfaces, etc., etc. Not to mention making it look realistic. It's no wonder it took him so long.
  17. Thanks for your Christmas sailing thoughts. We've always avoided holiday sailings but now that we've retired to Florida and our kids are in their mid 20s and working/living on their own, we're wondering if a Christmas cruise might be a better way to get everyone together. They have soon to be in-laws to consider as well, so maybe we'd cruise the week before Christmas. Worth a try if they can all get time off from work.
  18. Congrats to @John&LaLa and all other Georgia fans. That was a good old fashioned a$$ kicking. The game was over before the 1st quarter ended. At least we had 2 good semi-final games.
  19. I don't have experience with either of those tires. I can tell you that I've got Pirelli Scorpion Verde tires on my Mercedes SUV and Micheline has Goodyear Eagle F1 tires on her Range Rover. Both sets came with the car and we haven't had any problems with either. Both provide a good ride and good performance. I recently put new Pirelli's on my Mercedes after 34,000+ miles. I had some limited experience in the snow with the Pirelli's in Cincinnati over the holidays and they performed fine. I'd be a happy camper if I never had to drive in snow again.
  20. I think 90% of the country (including me) will be rooting for TCU. But my guess is that 90% of the country will be disappointed. Then again, I thought the same thing about the Michigan game. Who knows?
  21. 16 straight non-losing seasons for Tomlin. Impressive. I hope you're right, but sooner or later they'll need to play better. Getting by the Dolphins, Bengals and the Chiefs in a row will be tough. I'm rooting for a Bills-Eagles Super Bowl.
  22. Bills win. Phew. Nothing easy this year. Great to see the outpouring of support for Damar Hamlin across the league.
  23. Have you considered whether Owen is an evil genius and orchestrated his iPhone going into the water, along with no Apple appointments being available, just so he can upgrade to an iPhone 14? I bought a BMW when my oldest daughter was 12. Her first question was "how long do you keep cars before buying a new one?". I could see her brain calculating if she was to get a hand me down when she got her driver's license (the answer was no). I was equal parts proud and worried. Owen seems like a smart kid...just sayin'. 😜
