  1. You now need to buy on plane or in duty free before you fly. Just one up to one litre bottle of alcohol (no wine boxes either) per person can be taken on at 'first' embarkation so you cannot get off ship in Barbados and buy it and you cannot buy at any port stops. If you do it will be held until Southampton.

We normally bring wine boxes on board with Princess so it sounds as if it is getting stricter than other cruise lines. One litre is per person then not per cabin? I really like the cream rum liqueur they make in the Caribbean. Sounds like if I buy it I'll be bringing it home with me.

  2. We are on Azura the week before you (9th/10th March). Have done several transatlantic repositioning cruises both ways - love them. Have you got a starboard cabin as apparently that is the side which gets the sun sailing back to Southampton [emoji846]

No we are on the port side.

  3. The Calypso Reef and Pool on Lido deck has the retractable roof. The upper level seating area on Sun deck that overlooks that pool is called The Conservatory though why it needs a separate name remains a mystery to me. There is no age restriction in this pool area on either deck.

The aft Terrace Pool and the forward Lap Pool are usually designated adults only. The latter, while appearing on the deck plans to be inside the Lotus Spa and accessed through The Sanctuary, actually is neither of those and is free and open to all adults, not just Spa and Sanctuary patrons.

Thanks Fishywood that's good to know.

  4. They are very popular as they get heavily discounted the nearer you get to sailing date. Which ship and date? MD might be able to change your dining allocation.

We are sailing on Britannia on 16th March out of Barbados. Five ports in total and the rest sea days. The ship actually sails on 17th but we board on the 16th so we can explore the island before we sail on Saturday morning.

  5. Not when I was on it! The indoor pools are adult only on most ships in any event.

It has a retractable roof. I watched a video about the ship. I think it is the same design as P&O Ventura. The indoor pool is one of the main pools so should be for kids too. It's the pool that isn't the Movies under the Stars but the other one.

There is a pool near the sanctuary which would be adults only but that is outdoor. I wonder if that pool is free or whether you have to pay for the Sanctuary? In any case in Norway and the arctic circle we will be looking for indoor pool use!

  6. Interesting comment. Why do you "doubt" the ship will be full? It is very rare these days for any cruise liner to sail with less than 90% occupancy, given the use of pricing algorithms to maximise cabin occupancy.

I didn't think that a Transatlantic would be everyone's cup of tea.

  7. i'm doing azura transatlantic eventually got told the correct information by p&oi and i checked on here a few months ago..

on the final day they tell you what time you're coach is going the following morning i tried to book it through cruise personaliser which doesn't show the date you need phoned the coach company number who knew nothing about this cruise we then phoned p&o for the 2nd time and then got told this,

Our coach is going the South Terminal and our flight and car are at the North Terminal. Doesn't it drop us off at both?

  8. Cans of soda are $2 + gratuity. You are permitted to carry on as much as you wish!

Hot chocolate is $1.50 in the International Cafe (where you can have it made with milk).

Mocktails are $4.50 and up plus gratuity. I have no idea why some cost more than others' date=' but I know that within the package, some were served in large glasses and some in small.

I have no idea how much soda from a gun is outside of the package.[/quote']

Don't they automatically make the hot chocolate with milk?

  9. Your luck depends on the ship and the ratio of Club to Freedom dining rooms.

On the bigger ships with one Club and two Freedom you have a good chance, on the smaller ships with one of each you will have little chance.

That's a good point. I doubt the ship will be full either which will hopefully go in our favour.

  10. If you don't like your allocation, you can go along to the Restaurant Manager and ask to change.

How successful your request will be will depend on what is left when the wishes of the Select bookings have been met, so can't really be predicted and then it is said that requests to change are prioritised depending on the type of fare and also when you booked ie early bookers having priority over late bookers.

None of us can be any more specific than that, sorry.

It's good to know there is a chance we can change. Hopefully we will get freedom dining and there won't be a problem.

  11. Hi was on the brittannia last year (2016) to the caribbean and when your plane lands you go straight from the plane to a coach that is waiting on the tarmac then straight to the ship!!! Brilliant

Was it transatlantic? How is the coach transfer organised in the other direction? Did you have a good time?

  12. We have a guarantee cabin and have just been upgraded to a balcony on A deck at the aft.

That's the good news. No mention of our dining arrangement which will be allocated once on board. We would ideally like freedom dining. If we are allocated fixed dining how amenable are the staff to us changing? We do like a table for two and can't see that happening on fixed dining.

    What are your thoughts?

  13. We are sailing on Britannia transatlantic next month. I have the flight details (TOM) but no real paper work to hand over at Gatwick for our flight to Barbedos. What happens when we get to the airport? Do we just go to the front desk and and introduce ourselves showing our holiday itinerary?

  14. We are probably going for the soda and more package. In order to get good value I'd be very interested to know your recommendations. I don't like coconut but apart from that I like everything. If you could let me know the names of the mocktails and what is in them that would be great. Do they do a mudslide mocktail?

  15. I am debating whether to get the Soda and More package or not. In deciding, I have a few questions. I can't seem to find current answers.

    1. How much are sodas (cans or fountains) without the package?

    2. How much is hot chocolate without the package?

    3. How much are mocktails without the package? (I've seen $5.50 recently)

Considering days in port, I'm deciding if it would be more economical to pay as I go.

(I'm a big Diet Coke drinker, but would like a mocktail or two and I like hot chocolate in cold weather (going to Alaska) but I've been told with so many food options, I may not want to drink as much soda, so I'm rethinking this.) Thanks for any help/suggestions.

Cans of soda are about $2 I think but I read on another thread that if you have two mocktails in a day you have definitely saved money.

  16. Thanks for the review.

We are sailing the Norwegian fjords up to the Arctic Circle in the summer on Sapphire Princess so your comments about the ship are really helpful.

How good is the Teens club? We have a 13 and 16 year old on our cruise.

Have you used the indoor pool? What is it like?

Do you help yourself to pool towels on deck? We travel with different companies and I can't remember what Princess do.

Have you seen any Movies under the stars? Are they repeated on the television after?

Do they still sing happy birthday in the restaurant. We have two birthdays on board.

    many thanks

    Jo

  17. I ordered a hot chocolate just about everyday on our last cruise and never an option for cream on top or marshmallows or anything like that. Just straight hot cocoa.

I wonder what they'd say if I asked?

  18. We had the soda and more pkg two weeks ago on Regal and I had several cans of Root Beer with no problem, They poured the entire glass into the plastic tumbler that came with the package,

What does root beer taste like?

Can you get Cream on your hot chocolate?
