  1. I have some serious health issues and have found a company based out of BC that covers ( at least my issues ) with a 7 day stable prior to cover pre-existing condition....you could give them a call...they are now called Tugo and their number is 1-800-663-0399...i'm not sure if I am allowed to post a name, so I apologize if I'm not. Good luck!

  2. I have been interested in this cruise but was unaware of the flight difficulties. I cannot fly small planes of any kind. Two terrifying events and I just won't put myself through that again. Since I didn't know about a train option, could someone let me know how often the train makes that run.

The train station in Montreal ( Dorval ) is a 2 minute shuttle drive away from the airport....when you buy the train ticket it's included in the price. Book at viarail.com. Good luck.

  3. Hi all!

We leave for our wedding cruise on AOS Friday! We dock in Saint Lucia and would love to go to Roseau Bay. Has anyone gone there or know how to get there? I have seen kayak tours but we just want to go to the beach and lay there. Not have a guided 4 hour kayak tour and not get to go on the beach. TYIA!!!!!

Congratulations! Have a great cruise :)

  4. Can I be your friend?:D

I've done the same thing but so far, none have taken me up on my offer.

Once on b2b, I was roaming around the port between cruises when I saw a group of crew waiting for a taxi. I asked where they were going and they said Walmart to buy laundry detergent. None of those extra little gifts were going to help pay for that soap.

ha ha yes you can be my friend! I'll even bring you those little candies made of maple sugar that melt in your mouth :)

  5. I have medication that needs to be kept between 2-8C and have a special bag that the maker of the drug gave me, but when it's for a long time, I pack empty Ziploc bags and ask for ice cubes to replace the melted ice packs...maybe you could try that?

On my previous cruises I have found the medical fridge to not be in the cabin when we arrived but delivered shortly after I asked for it. But even after a couple of hours of having it plugged in, it wasn't very cold.

Good luck and enjoy your cruise!

  6. Hi,

My mom and I am contemplating sailing to Bermuda on the Veendam in June of next year. This would be my mom's first cruise and she is afraid of rough waters...so my question is, even though no two sailings are the same, what would be a typical sailing? Thanks for any advice you can give.

  7. Interesting to hear a comparison, thanks for sharing. We've been on the CB and the Summit ( last December ) and while Celebrity didn't wow us in any department, the one thing we found that was really different was the staff. Princess staff was (in our experience) friendly and welcoming while the Celebrity staff we had on our cruise was very cold and indifferent ( with the exception of our room attendant and MDR wait staff ). We're going back to Princess for our next cruise.

  8. We also each have a need for emergency meds to be "at hand" just in case.

However, our specialists have congratulated us for being so well prepared when we discussed our travel planning with them.

We have one carry on with "all the meds", including those not needed for potential immediate emergencies. Separately, we have a much smaller kit with a pared down set of "for emergencies only" meds in the other carry on. Then... in my purse, an even smaller quantity of the most critical.

And we also have two letters describing the medical needs, although they've never been needed yet.

We still worry about if something really bad happens while hours (or days!) from "help".

We also contact the "special needs" at each cruise line (these departments have different names) a couple of weeks before the cruise, to alert them to our situations in case they want any more details or documentation from our health care providers.

But we hadn't thought to meet the medical staff on boarding day, and that seems prudent - thanks for the idea.

At airport security, one of us goes through first, in place to "catch" the carry ons immediately as they arrive on the conveyor belt.

I also worry about that ( being hours or days from help ) because you just never know! My doctor does tell me I am well prepared but I think she laughed at how I told her about my packing...:) Easy for her not to worry when she's healthy and is a doctor!

You sound as prepared as you can be...I think we're all set to go! Have a great cruise everybody, may we all have safe, happy and medical emergency free cruises!

  9. Thanks so much. They eventually moved away. But, before they did, the mother asked if she could have everything I'd written to educate the other teachers and paramedics so that she could give it to his new school. ;)

I can't imagine living with what you do, and admire the fact that you still travel at all! So many people with disabilities sit home feeling sorry for themselves. (I admit to doing so for the first two years of my own illness. Now I run annual cruises for people with fibromyalgia and MS to teach others that we can still enjoy life.)

Thanks for your kind words. That family will remember you for the rest of their lives, I'm sure. I'm sorry about your illness, I hope you're doing ok.

I was 16 when I became ill and it did take me a long time to get a hold on being ill and everything that goes with it, I think most of us do. Now I treasure everything I can still manage because I know that sooner rather than later I won't be able to do things like cruise. What a great idea for your cruises! Have fun!

  10. Thanks again for the replies.

My specialist laughs at me about how I travel...I stash emergency injection kits and all of my different meds ( 8 in total ) in my purse, in both carry ons, have a special tag on my carry on stating 'medical supplies' and my medic alert, of course. I have a detailed letter from my doctor about how to treat adrenal crisis ( like dosages and time span ) and a print out from the Cushings/Addisons website on warning signs of crisis. When the doctor's office opens on boarding day, I take a copy of everything and introduce myself, leave the info with them and give them my stateroom number.

It seems over the top, I know, but it can happen fast....I know I do everything on my end but was curious to know if anyone had the experience themselves.

Payitforward it was really awesome what you did. Your diligence probably saved his or her life. How lucky you were there :)

  11. OMG thanks everybody for the laughs!

    I have 2 stories:

On our first cruise, we were sitting in the Windjammer cafe having some lunch and I notice a man waiting around one of the hot buffet stations. A waiter comes out and replaces one of the large dishes. The waiter leaves and the man takes the entire dish and carries it to his table. He sets it down in the middle of the table and the entire clan start to pick from it. Needles to say, he had several people around watching him with mouths open. Turns out they were chicken wings.

We were on a tour of St Maarten and had a stop at Orient. We were sitting at the snack bar when we saw an elderly, heavy set man come from the nude side of the beach, wearing a large towel around his waist. He gets a couple of drinks and takes his leave, as his towel starts to fall down. He bends over, at the waist to put his drinks down as his towels falls off. My eyes still sting at the thought.
