  1. i think there is a misunderstanding, the OP isn't worrying about the price going up onthe suites, they are banking on the price going down and getting that discount.

idk, i think one should book at a level they are comfortable with and then watch the sailing and see if you can do better in your price range. gambling with a too expensive room is not my style. booking 2 rooms just seems mind boggling to me because of the deposits.

i book within my means every time.

  2. according to fitbit forums, an internet connection is required to sync fitbit for time and alarms. the fitbit should store 7 days of data. i'm going to have 5 days at sea before i get to port. i will have cell data in port. it will just be annoying on ship when my fitbit doesn't match ship time, becuas i have heard the time changes several times on the Hawaii journey.

  3. where are the current smoking places on the star? i have a port aft balcony under the horizon and want to make sure we aren't in a smoke part. we are down the hall from the terrace pool.

I did a thread search but it seems the posts were from a ling time ago, just wondering if there was anything more recent.

  4. our first princess cruise i was very dismissive of movies under the stars. i thought it was cheesy.

that was some of my favorite times on the ship and i can't wait for muts on my next cruise. super excited to see my ship will have a new screen after dry dock for it as well.

i've hopped around cruise lines and i've enjoyed them all for various things. when my parents wanted to go on a cruise they were swayed by my review of my last princess cruise to book this one.

  5. i have a green outlet extender i bring. i got it dec 26 one year for a couple of bucks because it is for christmas tree/lights. no surge, just plugs. just a tip for those of you who want a back up for your cpap.

i also have a usb hub similar to one posted earlier for phones and ipad.

  6. First up, the ship.

Carnival seems to not mind design elements that end up with a lot of 'you can't get there from here' and bottlenecks. For example, the Galley is located in the middle of deck 3, which means to get from Guest services on deck 3 to the MDR aft you need to go up to deck 4 and over or down to 2 and over. And if the comedy club is in use on 4, that path is blocked. Guy fieri's burger bar and the resultant line overlaps with the buffet entrance. On deck 5 you have to pass through the casino, etc. (Side note, why is the arcade next to the casino - this has been changed on other carnival ships but just seems like a bad idea)

omg this was ENRAGING that i couldn't easily get from one place to another. and the lines for guys and the taco stand was a huge problem.

the decor was very odd, in my opinion. one of the atrium floors was nothing but a bunch of winged/sphinx naked ladies. i thought it was hilarious to be eye level with the boobs.

the tacos were quite delicious, and i made sure to get some every day.

i went on a short carnival cruise, it was boozy. i had a good time, but we are switching back to princess this time. your review was fair and put into words some things that i noticed that were different and annoyed me. i'd consider carnival again if it met my needs, but it's not something i'm itching to go back on.

  7. i think there is a balance to be found, something to call out and explain the safety features seems appropriate. kids are super unpredictable and even on vacation require vigilance, but no amount of paperwork or safety briefings will help the people who just aren't willing to pay pay attention. on the flipside, things can happen fast and even those paying attention can have tragedy strike. there is no one size fits all solution.

i work in a tourist destination and it always astounds, truthfully now it just annoys me, me how people just walk out into the street against the lights and almost get hit by a car. being on vacation doesn't magically mean the laws don't apply to you. you have to be just as vigilant on vacation as you are in real life.

  8. Asa aside, I like turkey bacon for its own thing. It is not at all like bacon, but is tasty.

As for what not to eat on Buffett, I'll agree with the scrambled eggs. I'll eat the whole plate of boiled eggs but never scrambled. I do like when buffets have fried eggs as a choice. The scrambled have a weird taste, I suspect they use a bit of ship water instead of milk. I always use milk and while I do like drinking ships water, I wonder if it might give the slightly off taste to the eggs.

  9. The pizza I had on our recent Star Princess cruise was awful. Wasn't cooked enough (doughy) and ingredients were cold on top. And this was "fresh out of the oven". Yes, I was standing there waiting for it.

oh darn i hope they fix that by the time i sail in december. i loved pool and pizza time on the ruby.

  10. i'm slightly confused by the question, were you thinking of coming in a few days early, or day before and then a drive? san Diego and santa barbara would be decentish scenic drives to los angeles. san fancisco is quite a long drive, but for either Sf or SB you could take the amtrack coast starlight down, it is a beautiful trip from up north to los angeles union station. there is also amtrack form san Diego, but i haven't done that on yet. vegas can be a 4-5 hour drive, but not necessarily scenic.
