Situations change, sometimes on a daily basis, for the good and bad. Fortunately the change was sorta for the good for us. Had to cancel the Star cruise but, for us, it was a good choice.....:):):)
Bob
Congrats...looking forward to Pictures.

I'm really looking forward to all these things and more. While I will be a little down about the lack of a proper promenade, I no longer down about the smaller MB mini balcony I had. Yesterday I saw that a S2 was available. Decided to take the plunge and ditch the smaller balcony. Now I'm really looking forward to the cruise, not that I wasn't before, but now I'm just a tad more excited.....:):):)
Bob
Which deck did you book? Some are definitely better than others. And I'm confused, I thought a couple of months ago you were going to cancel because of lack of overtime...now you book a $16,000 suite? Holy crap. OT must be good.

A review was posted today from someone in a penthouse...
"When we eventually arrived in the cabin, although it was smaller than previous it seemed better laid out and looked very nice until we got the shock of our lives when we opened the patio door to the balcony to find that the balcony is only approximately a metre in depth. There is no room to put a lounger and no room to have a dining experience as they say in their literature on the balcony. There is no room for foot stools as shown in the brochure, in fact we had friends in a deluxe balcony cabin and their balcony with the same depth."
Princess really needs to fix the drawings of the suites. Extremely deceiving as so few look like the drawing

If we sail on the Royal we'll book an inside. We love the balcony but it's not worth the price for such a tiny little ledge. More likely we just won't sail that ship (or the Regal since I don't doubt it will be the same).
We have C752 booked on the Grand for our next cruise. A nice big aft Caribe balcony on the corner. We're looking forward to the extra large balcony with the bit of wrap around. Time spent on the balcony is quality time. :D
We have that cabin booked for Ruby for 2015. Regal was doing a similiar but less steller itinerary and they wanted over $300 more for an aft on Regal. Not happening.

Does anyone have a picture of the Aft "D4" Cabin Balconies on the Royal Princess?? Wondering if any of these D4 cabins have a partially covered balcony?
Thank You for any info you can share with us.
Pat :)
I've seen one. They look good but be careful of which deck. Google for Pictures of Royal Princess Aft and you should get some good ones. Baja and Dolphin look really good. Much like the current Caribe. Some of the other decks, not so much.
-
Come on people, it's not a catastrophe, if the balcony on the Royal does not suit you, don't book it!!!
Of course it's not a catastrophe..but I do think it's eye opening to people that usually cruise on Princess balconies that things have changed... drastically. Buyer beware.

*I* actually do care about the size of a balcony. Normally we book aft cabins because of the view and the larger sized balcony. If that is no longer an option on Royal or Regal it certainly won't deter me from trying these brand new beauties!;) Will I miss that extra space? Probably, but I'm sure it won't kill us. We'll know going into the cruise that things will be a little different.
Yes, there's a couple of 85 sq ft. aft cabins. Just be careful which deck. Some are completely uncovered and some look fine. Dolphin and Baja look good. Bit of a premium over a regular balcony - $210 per person on the 7 day Caribbean sailing that I was looking at.
-
I think I would be a bit upset if I didn't know the size of the balcony before I booked.
no wonder in Shogun's live thread he said someone in a suite was having a fit at the purser's desk about being conned. They have to be the worst suite balconies at sea.
-
No way will I be forced to pick a different ship because of balcony size....we don't use the balcony 24/7, besides musical chairs with the family can be quite entertaining!;)
I think everyone has priorities when it comes to cruising and we all place importance on different things. Some people really enjoy family time with their kids having breakfast on the deck. Princess has made that impossible with the new ships. We spend our sea days out there, most lunches and even some dinners. We usually book a caribe but last time ended up on Baja because of a last minute deal, it was ok at 40 sq ft. The mini suites on royal and regal have smaller balconies (36sq ft) than the smallest on regular balcony cabins on Ruby ...to me that is completely unacceptable. Other people don't care about balcony size, they want to be around the ship doing things. For them, royal is perfect. No one is right and no one is wrong but princess just turned off a large amount of cruisers because of deck size.
-
I would be interested in seeing what the aft suite balconies look like.
Check out this picture, gives you a pretty good shot at the afts.
Looks like you really need to pick your deck well. Some are twice the size of others.

Boy am I glad I looked at those pictures. The cabins are so beautiful the balconies are a HUGE letdown. I see no need now to sail on the new ships. I'll stick with the "old" ones.
I think we will too. I plan on booking a Caribbean cruise tomorrow and was really going for Regal..but not now. We can sail Ruby for less money, better itinerary and a far better balcony and I get my much beloved aft pool back. It's such a shame, I love the look of the new ships except the balconies.
-
Those balconies are so disappointing! We sail in suites and adore the generous sized suite balconies on the rest of the Princess fleet. I do not think we will be sailing on the royal or her sister.
I think if you were able to book an Aft, you'd be ok. Just nothing on the side which unfortunately is where the majority of the suites are

Don't get you hopes up, they're tiny. Google USA TODAY Royal Princess Pictures. I believe there are picture of a mini suite's deck and try not to faint when you see how narrow the Penthouse suite's deck is.

I'm very tempted by this on our 10 Day Solstice Cruise. The 5 sea days would be a no brainer. But we have late nights in both Honolulu and Maui and I was hoping to eat in port. Decisions, Decisions...

Interesting results so far. More people have voted for 'Would Not Buy' and 'Don't Like The Idea' than I would have thought. And a greater percentage 'Would Buy' some sort of combination package that included a full array of beverages other than just soda.
I'm really surprised at the amount that said they would buy a drink package. I wasn't sure it would fly on Princess, but that's a very large percentage that said yes.

I used to cruise a lot, but I haven't been on one for about 20 years. I'm going on Princess in August. Let me get this straight. You have to PAY for ORANGE JUICE with breakfast???????????
No, you can get juice with breakfast, but I was using Celebrity's pricing for both cocktails and booze package. On Celebrity you have the option of freshly squeezed juice rather than that concentrate stuff. That is $4 at breakfast.

No longer any discounts on the Beverage Card http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showpost.php?p=36534971&postcount=3
HAL is now rolling out a Beverage Pkg http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1814886&highlight=beverage+card
Wow, Princess can't be far behind having drink packages. I think Princess is now the only mainstream line without one if HAL is rolling them out.

While I don't and won't buy a package, I believe any alcohol package should require every adult in a cabin to buy the package. We know people share soda and coffee cards, even though they shouldn't. Sharing an alcohol package would be a nightmare! :D
There is nothing wrong with sharing a coffee card. They're not unlimited, they're a limited amount of punches.
We'd be interested in drink packages. Seeing as we pay around $40 each night for a bottle of wine in the dining room and I buy a coffee card, it wouldn't be hard to spend the rest.
Cappucino upon waking. $4
Fresh orange juice with breakfast $4
Bottled water x 2. $6
Glass of wine with lunch. $8
Two beer by the pool or a margarita. $ 10
Pre dinner martini $10
2 glasses of wine with dinner $ 15
After dinner Cappucino $4
That's over $60 and I haven't hit a show yet

I'm looking at booking an April 2014 TA. The schedules were just released. The prices are ridiculous compared to the previous three I've done when there was no 123 promo. I have seen the prices for some cruises bumped up to "include" the promo...IMHO.
When does the 123 end? So I'll look again at the cruise I want to take.
The current Promo doesn't cover April 2014, so I doubt there is any price increase to cover the 123 promo.
-
I have seen two dates for expiration of 123 . . . end of March and April. Which is it? If April could I use it for a late april 2014 TA I have in mind?
Paul
The first time it was offered it was end of April, this new offering is end of March.
-
Does anyone know if the 123Go triple play promo for captain's club members will resurface again, too?
Judging by Cruise Critic's article on this on Facebook today, I'd say yes.
-
Wouldn't it be extremely dangerous for multiple people to be lifting someone into a tender? No wonder they stopped this.

Depends who you ask. A quick Amazon search brings up a 750ml of each as exactly the same - $29.99
In Canada Cointreau is GM's cheap substitute. I'll ask for GM :)

These pictures are from the USA today link earlier in this tread...or google USA today Royal Princess pictures. I thought that first picture was a mini suite. So if that's bigger than deluxe balconies and regular balconys...holy ****
Edit...just checked, that is a mini suite balcony
