  1. I am not sure what he is responding to that is false. I was on the breeze July 1-8. The T-pool was just a little warm and no jets. After asking a few different people that didn’t seem to understand that it was supposed to have jets a person behind the front desk told me that no carnival ships have functioning jets anymore (I am assuming she was regarding T-pool’s only). Is J. hearld saying it is false they aren’t working (I promise they were not), or that it is false it is all of carnival. I was very disappointed in the T-pool as this was our reason for sailing Carnival and getting a spa room. I had originally booked the same week on Royal Caribbean, but switched to a carnival spa room (our first carnival cruise) because of the T-pool. We still had a great time, but the T-pool, and the spa, was such a disappointment. Also, not sure who J. hearld is, but now I feel like I am being called a liar by someone high up at Carnival. Kind of makes for a bad feeling towards my Carnival experience that was originally overall a good one.

John Heald is kind of the face of Carnival (from what I know). I think what he's saying is that it was temporary and not cut off forever, and that it might be tied to that particular ship. Please don't take it as us calling you a liar - definitely not the case! I believe you, and I'm with you... I would be very disappointed if it wasn't working when I take my cruise. Really looking forward to it.

  2. Start looking about 6 weeks before. I would check frequently (at least once every other day). From what I've heard, they wait until closer to the cruise date to see how many platinum/diamond cruisers are on before they release more.

  3. My neighbor just boarded the Breeze this morning about 11:30. Like me, he and his wife are huge Cloud 9 Spa fans. I told him about this thread then gave him an update as the various replies were posted.

He just texted me at 3:29pm. He went to the Spa and there are no bubbles in the T-Pool. I responded with "So no more bubbles ever" and he replied "That is what they said". "They" refers to the workers at the Spa counter.

How I hope CCL gets enough grief over this to reverse this decision and turn them back on by our upcoming cruise next month.

Oh man - that would be bad. Can't even imagine all the complaints that will come from that. As a previous poster said, Carnival advertises the jets, so that will be an issue. I'm really hoping this is a temporary issue so it will be up and going before our cruise in August. Fingers crossed!

  4. There was a woman on here a couple years ago who swore her husband won every time he played a slot machine...on every cruise. And if you said he didn’t you were just jealous... It was.....insane.

Sorry for the typo - I was talking in my question on my phone so you'll see "period" listed often. Supposed to be a ".".

  5. We did an Ultra cruise on the Breeze and there was one machine that always paid out for me...it was close to the cashiers cage I believe it was called....wait for it...the ATM.

    Good luck and happy cruising.

Haha!! That's funny (and so true - LOL!).

  6. Most modern slot machines have a prefered bet level set to have a better return to player ratio. The casino can change this at will that where a machine that was giving the best bang for your buck on day 1 at the maximum play for full lines and feature level on day 2 now needs the middle of the board multiplier on the bet amount at full lines and/or feature to be a consistent winner.

The second part that affects how well you win is most machines have 6-16 RNG settings that have a different algorithm that will have a it payout from a low variance to high variance. A low variance setting will give you more wins but at a lower payout rate, with almost every spin winning at an amount less than the base bet with the very occasional payout of multiple times the base bet. A high variance machine will payout less often but many times when it does payout it is at multiple times the base bet. High variance set machines tend to have more spectacular payouts on their bonus rounds, but it is harder to get to the bonus.

The tricky part at any casino where they know their patrons will be there across many days is most will randomly change the variance level on any given day. The computers in the backroom can reset these levels without a technician opening the machine, so one that was paying out very well on the first and second day, suddenly after dinner on the second night can run cold while the same machine 2 seats down is paying out like crazy.

As others have said slot are mostly luck of the draw and do go through very random win and lose cycles, that can further be manipulated by casino staff.

Wow! Good info! I didn't realize it was so variable. Thanks!

  7. Thanks for the posts. I was not aware that the machines for switched out often. Typically we try to take a different ship each time we go if possible. The reason I look and see how the payout is going is that I know some machines are programmed to pay out more than others period and example is one time I was on The Conquest and every time I passed a specific machine it was paying out a decent amount. I went back to it and played it and one about $500. I know it's all luck but I'm always curious if the other CC members have a specific machine they prefer. Thanks all! Happy cruising!

  8. Okay. I know this is going to sound like a strange question but I've been on several Carnival Cruises and I spend a lot of time in the casino. There's usually a few machines they pay out more than the average one period typically I will wait the first day and watch to see which machines are paying the most and then play. But I thought I would put the question out there. For those of you that have played on the breeze, what machine paid out best for you? Thanks in advance for your answers and happy cruising!

  9. Our most recent cruise was the Regal Princess Transatlantic. We crossed the entire ocean and noticed when packing on the last night of the cruise that we were missing a life jacket. Luckily there wasn’t a real emergency but had we been required to bring our life jackets to the muster drill (the procedure changed just a few months prior), this would have been discovered much sooner. It only makes me wonder how long the stateroom had been missing one.

Wow! That's true! Never thought about that!

  10. You know, I see this question posted quite often but I don't think I've ever responded. I have a rule of thumb... if its under 5 days - I take an interior. If it's 5 + I book a balcony. There are positives and negatives to both. If you're prone to seasickness it's better to get a balcony or an oceanview. Usually being able to see the horizon tends to ease the queasiness.

I do like the interiors being as dark as they are when we go to bed because I sleep in a little longer and I value my rest :). However, I like the privacy of a balcony and I always think about if something happens (like with the Triumph). It would be nice to have a door propped open if needed. Knock on wood, I've been on 15 cruises and never had an issue like that. So, in short - I guess it comes down to your preference. Either way, enjoy your cruise!!

  11. Ehh... I’d prefer bringing the life jackets to the muster drill. It helps ensure the proper number of life jackets are provided in the room (I was missing one recently on Princess) and gives you the opportunity to make sure the straps are working properly. Believe it or not, the general public has a lot of difficulty putting on the life jackets.

Oh my gosh!! Totally forgot about having to do that! Have to admit I'm glad we don't have to. I would always crack up looking at everyone in their jackets. Of course, I wouldn't be laughing if it was a real emergency:rolleyes:!

  12. No problem at all. And I appreciate your graciousness. I owe you an apology as well... a direct one. I already apologized to you while responding to another poster. Now I am doing so directly.

Here's the thing. I've seen lots of threads started here similar to yours. I know the intention is good in most cases and was obviously meant that way by you. Not all are though. And since I occasionally have griped a bit about some changes CCL has made I might be interpreted as a "complainer" by some. I don't see it that way though. I really do love most things about Carnival. If I didn't I wouldn't have continued cruising with them for the past fourteen years. I don't love every single thing they do though and I sometimes speak up about it. I also speak up about the good things they do.

I'm neither an Eeyore, nor a Pollyanna, imho. I try to be objective.

I do appreciate your apology, though I'm not sure it is warranted. I just wanted to make a point and wasn't really personally offended all that much. So carry on. I should have kept my opinion to myself in the case of this thread.:) Happy cruising!

Thank you! I will say one thing... I think we're both showing our age talking about Eeyores and Pollyanna's LOL! The younger ones might not get the reference. ;p No apology necessary. Happy cruising to you as well!

  13. You're right. Perhaps "bashing" was too strong a term and I could have said it better. My apologies to the OP. The fact remains though the OP spoke of "complainers." That is a generalization and a negative one at that. The things that the OP doesn't consider cutbacks are all things they care nothing about. In my mind, the biggest difference between a "complainer" and a "cheerleader" , for lack of a better term (not crazy about the word cheerleader either, it just works well here for sake of comparison), is that the complainer has had something go bye bye that was meaningful to them, while the cheerleader hasn't... yet. I didn't state it well, but my whole point was that it is unfair to lump everyone who has ever lamented a CCL cutback into a group called "complainers." Yes, there are those here that have never spoken a positive word about Carnival. I get that. But every person that has ever complained about something Carnival has changed or taken away is not necessarily a habitual complainer or hater. I found it ironic that the OP was asking for positves after having negatively labled a group "complainers." I don't like the whole concept of putting people into "groups" without their consent. Yes there are legitimate "groups" of people with a label. These are generally positive and the people in them gladly accept the label. I don't see calling folks complainers as a positive, for reasons I've already explained.

My apologies if I offended anyone. Yes, I am a "cheerleader" type of personality. In fact, in our house it's called the "Tigger or Eeyore Personality". I always try to find the best in any situation. For me, it makes life a little easier;). It definitely wasn't my intention to group anyone. I just see so many complaints on this site and I just don't get it. I feel so fortunate to be able to go somewhere and have a group of wonderful people take care of me while I lounge around and do nothing. I appreciate it even more when I go to countries where the people are much less fortunate and I see how good I have it.

So, with that said... I do apologize if I offended any one. I really wanted to try to make this a positive post. That's the bad thing about posts - sometimes the intent can be misinterpreted.

  14. Ok.... I feel horrible.... victim of "Fake News". LOL! I did some more research into the taking away of the ship on a stick and that's not happening! What happened was I saw the title of the video on John's page and watched part of the video and had to get off. Apparently he was addressing what other people had mentioned. So... for all you ship/stick lovers - rejoice!!!

Either way, I hope that everyone takes this topic and runs with it in a positive manner. There are so many things to enjoy when you cruise Carnival. I hate it when they are pummeled with negativity.

    Sorry for the confusion!

  15. I cruise out of Galveston too. It's nice to cruise out of your backyard :). You're still far enough out that they'll more than likely have some more FTTF before you leave. From what I've heard they usually wait until about 6 weeks before to release more (so they can get an idea of how many Platinum/Diamond cruisers will be onboard. Enjoy your trip with your family!!

  16. Ok, here's just a sample of non-food things I consider upgrades compared to my first Carnival cruise in 1992.

    Serenity area

    Cloud 9 Spa

    More hot tubs

    More outdoor deck space

    More balcony cabins

    Sports deck activities

    Waterworks

    Your Time Dining

    Internet

    Guest Services kiosks

    Better shopping venues

    Private island port

    More comfortable beds

Personally, I like most of the changes that have been made over the years. I don't need things to stay frozen in time. That would get incredibly boring.

    Couldn't agree more! Thanks!
