Sometimes, I wonder what is the supporting evidence for many of the early resumption of cruising.  Every cruise port will have to decide if the benefits of cruising is enough to offset the expected cost of fighting this disease.  Right now, there may be some cruise ports willing to open up to cruise ships because it really benefits them, but I having difficulty of coming up with even one example.  I could see Panama allowing canal transiting, but no ship may stop at any Panama cities.  We may have to wait until there is a vaccine for this disease before cruising will even begin to get back to normal.

I'm thinking that the cruise lines will have to put up some kind of bond that the cruise ports could go against to insure that the cruise lines themselves bare this cost, not the cruise ports

How much of a bond ??? - I'd guess it would state in the $50 million minimum - or is that too low  ?

  2. independent shoreside cleaners for turnaround day … a crew of a couple hundred could come on at 8 or so for a 5 hour shift

200 x 5 = 1000 hours of cleaning in conjunction with what the crew is doing in the passenger cabins

off ship by 1 or so as to not delay passenger boarding … too much - better than losing a whole day - have to figure out that little security issue ...

Jan Swartz just gave a televised announcement to all ships where she informed Princess employees that there would be a hiring freeze, and

an elimination of contract jobs.  They are also having a problem securing chartered flights to get employees to their home.  So they are

exploring the idea of using their ships to get employees home.  It was a very good talk piped into all the cabin tvs on the ship, Royal Princess.

Obviously they have to stem the outflow of money at a time when they are seeing no income (my words)

    Greg

you are on the Royal Princess now ??

It seems to be a standard option on all cruises now and quick arithmetic shows it to be $40 pp pd extra. Not to quibble, but when you say 'we've got it' you mean 'we paid extra for it' right ?

correct - we paid the cruise fare for that - $ 15 pp pd for a drink package is a bargain even if you don't drink ANY alcohol

I can only speak for myself but I would certainly appreciate knowing that a chargeback might be coming my way. No GOOD TA would try to talk a customer out of doing what a customer feels is the best thing for them. If they did, I would say get a better TA!

what advantage, if any, is for a cruiser to use a TA that they pay directly instead of using a TA, but paying Princess directly ??

I hope that is not for real.  I can't imagine sailing in May in the middle of a pandemic.

agreed, but I do like the idea of somewhat limiting the capacity at first … which may become moot, if passengers aren't willing to cruise in the same numbers as pre-Corona

book low and hope for a comped upgrade ?

Ask the steward for bio hazard disposal bags. Put used disposable diaper in that and tie a knot in the neck of it.

These red bags will be handled correctly and disposed of correctly by the team handling it.

  9. not to be off-topic … much … but, the IRS / US Treasury can process a return e-filed, with direct deposit , and you will have your

refund in your account in 2-3 weeks ...

now, they are set up for that - Princess clearly isn't / wasn't … before all this - how many refunds for cancellations did Princess

need to process a day / week / month - prolly not that many

now, again, consider the current environment - a single cruise can generate … what … 2-3 "thousand" refunds , everything from cruise fare, excursions, prepaid dining, interwebs and now add on to that EZ Air, cancelled hotel reservations ...

    just wine afternoon musings ...

  10. a half-full view would be that April, and May are the critical months , of course … maybe, and that's a huge maybe … cruise lines could possibly begin crew only operations in June,  getting ships in place, and any kind of re-certification necessary

limited, closed loop cruises beginning July 1 or so, and full cruise schedules beginning 8/1 - and that's highly optimistic ...

The port fees and taxes are not considered part of the "cruise fare".  Look at your original booking details to find out the amount of the actual cruise itself and not any of the other add ons and that should work out with the amount of FCC you did get.

exactly the same as when we took our move over offer - free cruise plus 100% of "cruise fare" as refundable OBC

    not port taxes

    not Princess insurance

    cruise fare only

side note - Princess did pick up the additional port fee, insurance cost, and grats when we moved from a 5 day to a 7 day...

but I had to pay the additional 2 days of the PBP

  12. not about what goes in, butt about what comes out also needs to be addressed, as in proper disposal of diapers

some previous posts how some people left soiled diapers on the balcony and just put them outside their cabin door

pb_uk, I just wanted to let you know we made it home ok.  I just opened a bottle of extra stout Guinness in celebration.  Be safe.

when you were  confined to your cabin, could you still order room service adult beverages, and did they charge you for them ?
