:) That must have been hard for you to share. So sorry for your loss. I have a similar story so I can empathize with you.

  2. Maybe after a while Alvin will start to feel more comfortable. I myself was underwhelmed last May by him. Then again he has had some very large shoes to fill. It's hard to stand up in front of people, but you either have it or not. I felt that he couldn't wait to get out of our Meet and Greet. Not that I'm looking for any special kudos for organizing a M and G but this was the first time that a CD hasn't introduced himself to me at the many that I have arranged. A smile once during the week goes a long way. Hopefully by June he will have relaxed and added some zip.

  3. I have hosted numerous Meet & Greets. I have received some perks one time which was totally unexpected. The NCL ship that I mostly sail on doesn't offer them. I try to offer to run the Meet & Greet because I enjoy them & enjoy meeting new people. The one time that someone had volunteered ahead of me unfortunately it didn't go well. If some stopped onto the roll call she would ask how many people were in their group and add them to the list. We had about 50+ on our list but with no activities or reason to attend we had about 9 at the M&G. Don't get me wrong, she was a delightful woman but people just dont realize how much work and nail biting go into the preparation of a Meet & Greet. A perk for me is meeting people, having fun and having passengers & staff say "hi" to you on the cruise.

  4. I sailed the Spirit 6 years ago. Vaguely I remember a pirate ship with water spraying out of it in the kids pool area. I recall thinking that my grandkids would have liked it. I believe that if you go to the NCL site that they will show you the kids area.

I loved the Spirit. I can't speak about the Epic as I have never sailed her. I mostly stick to ships no larger than the Gem.

Have a great time with your little one.

  5. There is no gratuity or service charge on UBP purchases. For non-suite passengers there is a service charge on the UBP itself, but that doesn't apply to suite guests. Regardless, once you have the UBP you will not be charged anything per-drink (unless you are in a port with a local tax).

Just a question regarding suite passenges. I was in a suite last year and paid around $84 in advance for it. Was this an error?

  6. I was in contact with my NCL rep last week and he told me 8 cabins. What I read was the same as Sauer-kraut said on the NCL web site.

Maybe only TA's can get a group rate for 7 cabins

Omg, Lisa I was randomly looking thru this thread and saw your photo. I don't know if you remember me but I met you a few years ago on the A O S with that huge group. How's your mom doing? Does your husband still drink those bushwhackers? What a drink that was. I have been sailing on the Gem to New England and Canada. Your country and people are so beautiful.

  7. Last cruise I had complimentary 3 night dining plus a total of 2 nights extra due to platinum benefits for my friend and myself. We love the quiet and the service. The food is very nice too. On the Gem the Asian restaurant the Orchid has wonderful appetizers. We try to go to different venues including the occasional buffet. That way we don't get bored. If I didn't get those 5 nights free, would I pay for them? Depending on my budget, probably at least 3 nights. Its not about the quantity with me. I could be happy with a bowl of soup. I enjoy the service and the quiet. Don't get me wrong, I also do enjoy the main dining room and O Sheehan's but it's all about balance.

    Enjoy your cruise.

  8. Just got into NYC. Everything was wonderful, no complaints here. Was treated to a wonderful tenor Aaron Shaw. Personality and talent thru the roof.

Service and food were great. The deadlock was successful in my book. The Atrium in lovely.

Kudos to the user pleasant guest service staff, Monica the concierge, Randy our butler and Jonathon our steward. The captain and his crew as usual are very competent and a hoot. Don't miss Q and A with Captain and cake wars. Ours was last day @ 1.

  9. I am sad that both Dan Dan and Carlos won't be on the Gem for my next cruise. I will just have an open mind and hopefully their replacements are good. If Jayson is the butler who was on the Gem a couple of years ago and then moved to the BA, he is excellent. I will cross my fingers that he will be our butler.

  10. I am booked for an end of May Gem cruise. This will be #4 on the Gem, #6 NCL and my 10th cruise overall. Nothing is perfect however I believe that the Gem has set the bar very high. It's clean and beautiful. There are many food venues and choices. I love jthe entertainment

Excuse the language but this "Nickel and Dime" thing is BS. They give you a choice where to spend your money.

I believe that the free in room premium movies are for the suites ànd Haven only. I also think there are ßome no charge movies on the TV and in the atrium.

Thanks so much for posting. I am getting psyched.
