  1. I download games on my tablet that don't require internet access, before I leave, so I have a variety of games to play, read, listen to my music, and watch the world go by from the promenade deck. Look for any classes, activities that interest might interest you. Go for walks, go to the gym, and just walk around the ship, in between. I try to keep busy, so I don't just go eat out of boredom, which is too easy to do on a cruise.
  2. The entertainment is what brought me to NCL. The first time I sailed with NCL, they had the show Rock of Ages as the main show, and Six as the second show. Between that and Syd Normans Pour House, I thought I had found the perfect cruise line for me. Then I saw Kinky Boots and Jersey Boys and was even more impressed. Without these shows and having to wait in line for an hour to get into Syd Normans', I feel like I've lost what brought me to the cruise line originally. I am not a game show person, so I have little interest in going to see that in the theater, or Atrium. I still find enough to keep me coming back to NCL, but I am starting to look at different cruise lines' itineraries and am open to booking with them more-so now.
  3. My favorite part of NCL is how they treat their solo travelers. Not only do they have a whole section of solo traveler rooms, with a dedicated lounge, but they also give the solo travelers their own dedicated crew member who, on my cruises, organize nightly meets, arrange group dinners, arrange for a saved area for the solo travelers in the shows (when possible). Disclaimer: the solo rooms/lounge are only on the larger ships. They make me feel included ❤️.
  4. I've done both and prefer the solo cabin. Yes, it's smaller, but the layout makes the best use of the space. The solo room seems to have more storage space. I think with either room, you get access to the solo lounge now too. Depending on the ship, the shower and sink are out in the room, (Prima & Viva have a separate bathroom) which is a little weird.
  5. Just book all your specialty dinner reservations on line for what is available (they don't care which promo you're using until you actually go for your meal). If you want to change times, or days, there will be a place on embarkation day, where you can request time/day changes. My suggestion is to go there as soon as you board to take care of that. You can also just go to the restaurant and see if you can make changes, but it may be a little more limited on what can be done past embarkation day.
  6. Forewarned is forearmed...I was on Prima last year for the Iceland cruise, and having been forewarned about some of the issues, I knew what to expect, and had no problem. It is one of the most beautiful ships I've ever been on and the food was great (big fan of the Indulge food hall). While I loved the variety of the thermal spa, the layout was a bit wonky, and having the gym above the quiet area was a bad design. Would I sail on her again...definitely!
  7. I have gone on 2 cruises with stops in Norway (Prima was one), and as most have mentioned, Geiranger is breathtaking. That is the only fjord I've seen where the large cruise ships go through. I have done separate fjord excursions in other cities, after the ship docked, and each one was just as beautiful as the next.
  8. I thought Q was ok. Nothing I had was bad, but it sure wasn't the best I've had. I would rate it over the buffet for dinner, but wouldn't waste a specialty dining credit on it. I've gone a few times with groups and usually just pay a la carte.
  9. I used the laundry service for the first time on my last cruise and had no problems. But as people have said, it takes a minimum of 24 hrs to get it back, so make sure you leave enough clothes out for the current and next day.
  10. I have gotten double-up quite a few times on inside/solo rooms. I go through an NCL PCC (personal cruise consultant), and he knows I'm always looking for this, so when they become available, he lets me know and I either book a trip, or he'll apply the second certificate to a current trip I have booked. Of course, this works because I usually book my cruises at least 6 - 9 months in advance. It may be trickier if you wait until inside the 4-month period before.
  11. I just got off Prima last week, but only got to see the first night show. It seemed like it was identical to the show on Breakaway I saw last year, which was the same I saw on Breakaway about 3-4 years before that. Maybe the conversation and stories between the band members was slightly different, but the songs were the same as I'd seen on Breakaway. I did get to see the Rumors show this time, and really enjoyed that. Obviously, that's going to be identical on each ship.
  12. I just got off Prima last week, and I was fine with the once-a-day cleaning. I usually keep my room pretty clean anyways, so it doesn't take long for them to clean. I usually get an inside room, so I don't hang out in my room at all. If I had a balcony or spent more time in my room, then it might become an issue since they sometimes don't get to rooms until afternoon. I only had one day where I went back to my room in the afternoon and my room hadn't been cleaned yet. My steward kept apologizing for it not being done, and I told him not to worry about it, I just needed to get something and then I got out of his way. I will say, my poor room steward just looked exhausted.
  13. Hi Karen, If you really like a balcony and watching the ocean go by, a solo room might be an issue. I love the solo rooms, but I also don't spend much time in there, I just sleep, change clothes, maybe watch a little tv, but that's it. They are awfully small, but for me they have a cozy feel to them. I do prefer the solo rooms as opposed to a regular inside room. Not sure why, I think they just use the space more efficiently, and have a cozier feel. There is not a bar in the solo lounge per se. Usually during the evening meets, a server will come and take your drink orders and bring them to you in the lounge, but only during the meets. But there are snacks (fruit, cake, cookies), water and orange juice, and of course, the famous coffee machine, in the lounge until later at night. Hope this helps give you more of an idea of the solo area.
  14. Thank you so much for your review! I sail in a couple of weeks (going the opposite direction and a few different ports), and am glad to hear you had a good time. Also, thank you for talking about the entertainment, it's good to hear they had more than I had anticipated.
  15. I've stayed in the solo rooms on most of the bigger ships and each time has been great. There's always been a dedicated crew member to organize dinners and shows. The cruises I've been on have had all the meetings in the studio lounge, except the first night, and have been open to anyone who wants to attend, even if not staying in a solo room. In fact, we've had couples/families (no kids) join us for the meets/dinner also. I find the solo rooms more to my liking than the inside room with supplement (yes, sometimes it's cheaper to get the inside room with supplement), they seem to use the space more efficiently and I find there's more storage available in the solos. I'm looking forward to my next solo room in a couple of weeks and looking forward to meeting a fun group of people!
  16. Yay! Glad to hear everything worked out. I saw the credit for my 2 canceled excursions on my credit card this weekend.
  17. I've stayed in the studio cabins 3 times (with another one coming up). Sometimes it can be more expensive than just paying the supplement on a regular inside room, but I prefer the studio cabins. There seems to be more storage available in the studio cabins, and I find them to be cozy. I don't spend much time in my room, no matter what type of room I'm in, so the studios fit my needs. The lounge is an added bonus with the coffee, drinks, and snacks fully stocked all day, and later into the night. It's also a great place to meet and chat with people.
  18. Hi Bird, I'm sorry, I may not have been clear, but my cruise is not for another 5 weeks, so per their policy, I should have seen a credit on my credit card for the excursions I canceled "Tour cancellations which occur one day or more prior to sailing shall automatically receive a full refund on the credit card used to purchase such shore excursion tour, unless the tour has a more restrictive cancellation policy or unless a balance remains due to be paid on the guest’s reservation.... In order to receive a full refund a guest must cancel their reservation on a shore excursion tour, one or more days prior to sailing.... " It's been a week on one tour since I canceled, and the other was at the beginning of this week, so I'll wait till next week to call and see what's going on. Hopefully they'll post my credit soon 🤞
  19. Thank goodness I read this thread. I canceled two excursions, 1st because I'm going to do an outside tour, and second was because the port was canceled. I just checked, and I have not been refunded the money on my credit card for either excursion. Nor do I show any kind of OBC on my account (although I haven't officially checked in yet). I'll give them the 10 days, and then start calling. What is so difficult about this?!?!?
  20. Thank you for your review! I am doing the same cruise, in reverse, in late August and your review has put my mind at ease about all the negative reviews I've seen.
  21. Hi ontheweb, I'm on Prima, but not until the August 27 cruise. I so agree with you, why mess with something that has made you successful. I hope there's enough other entertainment going on around the ship to keep us happy. Oh well, let's keep our fingers crossed and hope for the best! 🤞
  22. I have an 11-day cruise coming up next month on NCL, and I'm a little nervous I'll be bored at night. There is only one main theater show. The second show, when I reserved the cruise was canceled, and in it's place they're trying to pass off a game show in the theater as a main show (sorry, not a game show fan, nor do I feel they are a 'theater' show). I guess there will be a few comedians, but it just seems like a waste of a theater, and not sure what there will be to do at night. I'm looking forward to Syd Norman's shows, but will have to get in line at least 1/2- to an hour prior to the show. NCL's entertainment is what drew me to them years ago....lack of entertainment could drive me away pretty quick.
  23. This is what I did too. I was there for 3 days prior to a cruise and bought a 3 day ticket for the Hop On/Off bus and used it as my transportation to see specific things. It goes in a big circle around the city, and most sites are walking distance from most of the stops. Copenhagen is beautiful, with plenty to do!
  24. I haven't received my official flight information from NCL, but on my itinerary it shows I'm flying into Gatwick. I have another month or so until I should get my flight information. I wish it was sooner so I could finish planning my hotel. I have one tentatively reserved in South Hampton, so hoping I land fairly early and can take a train or bus directly there from the airport so I can relax until the cruise.
  25. I love.... relaxing on the Waterfront or whatever main deck, listening to music, and watching the ocean go by, visiting and experiencing a different city every day, being able to eat different food from what I would eat at home, meeting new people.
